Though, I think I've read enough on here, the past thirteen years, I can figure the written vernacular out, but I remember meeting a man from northern Scotland...years before my ear was trained and I could not understand half of what he said. I think I'd do better now, esp. after spending oodles of phone time with a Glaswegian!**BG** |

Subject: RE: BS: Need some extra 'oomph' thoughts, please From: Megan L Date: 24 Oct 12 - 05:27 AM Philosophy Is your day begun with a smile or a frown Are you looking up or looking down Do you wear a smile upon your face Or do you curse the human race. I would far rather make someone smile To rest and forget their cares a while I would rather seek the good in life Than burden folk with wrath and strife Cannot remember how long ago i wrote this perhaps back in the 70's |

Subject: RE: BS: Need some extra 'oomph' thoughts, please From: YorkshireYankee Date: 26 Oct 12 - 11:45 PM The glorious intertwining harmonies, beautiful period costumes and choreography on a grand scale in this clip from Oliver Twist always make me smile: Who Will Buy (My husband just came by as I was watching the clip myself, and commented, "One of the finest sequences ever committed to celluloid". He does have a way with words...) ;-) Hope you're feeling better soon. |

Subject: RE: BS: Need some extra 'oomph' thoughts, please From: Megan L Date: 27 Oct 12 - 04:23 AM People can be so anoying! There I was yesterday enjoying a perfectly good grump. Well I mean it's not even November and we were having snow showers. Then I received a text from my self appointed almost 40 daughter (Now I know why I never went for the real thing.) "Yippee isn't it brilliant it's snowing" "Naw it's cauld" "Lets go out and sledge" "Theres not enough snow GO AWAY PEST" A long pause later i was just settling back into ma grump. "We love you Momma Bear" A perfectly good grump ruined by the mental picture of her standing there swinging her hip and scuffing her toe before running away grinning. I love the people I adopt as family |

Subject: RE: BS: Need some extra 'oomph' thoughts, please From: GUEST,hg Date: 01 Nov 12 - 09:59 PM Depression is such a complex problem and unique for each individual. Firt off, good quality sleep is the single most important factor in emotional well-being. Theta, delta, and REM in roughly thirty minute stints with five or six total cycles of 90 minutes each and every night being ideal. Any disruption of that will have cumulative negative effects on your emotional well being. Fibromyalgia impacts sleep negatively. Non trad meds taken at night might also do that. Pain medications can disrupt sleep as does pain, as you well know. Heart problems cause anxiety. Anxiety disrupts sleep. Sleep apnea must be treated if it is evident or depression will persists no matter what meds are taken. Beta blockers like inderal contribute to depression. Any persistent low level lack of oxygen can eventually create depression. Then there are the life issues. Fear of death, fear of death with unfinished business, loneliness, sadness over attenuation of emotional ties, losses we face as we age; jobs, health, people, pets, status, finances, dignity, unrealized dreams. There is so much that can make us sad and depressed. Keep working on your health and adequate sleep Katie. Go to the therapist, come to terms with losses. Enjoy the present; your friends, family, grandchildren. Get lots of sunshine and fresh air. Enjoy nature Write, you love that I know. Tell your story, the painful parts as well as the bright parts. Good luck..You sound like you're better than you were in Spring. love, harpgirl |

Subject: RE: BS: Need some extra 'oomph' thoughts, please From: LadyJean Date: 03 Nov 12 - 01:16 AM When I was a little girl I had a floof cat. He was a huge gray and white long haired male. His notion of exercise was a brisk waddle from wherever he was napping to his dish, then back to wherever I was for some serous snuggling. He was my best buddy. When I was 13, we were told he had a tumor on his liver and he might live six months. He did indeed live six months. He then lived another 11 years, napping, eating and snuggling. He died at not quite 18, of a gum infection. There are two morals to that story 1: Don't take doctors' diagnoses too seriously. 2: Floss every day. |
