Lassie when life tosses ye doon in the mud lift yer face tae the sky its brighter and at least that wey ye keep breathing.

My footsteps are so faltering
I stumble and I fall
Its so hard to keep on going
when your'e curled up in a ball.

But I keep on crawling onwards
working slowly through my day
Till the day that i can stand once more
And dance along my way.

You are such a loyal & caring friend to Ann & myself, it grieves us to hear that you are struggling with depression. There is little we can do to help from a practical point of view, but we love you very much & based on personal experience, we know, unequivocally, there is light at the end of a 'tunnel called depression'. Don't forget, whatever the weather, the sun is always shining...the clouds just get in the way. Will send you a PM with more personal stuff which might help with that 'lift' you are seeking.

From: Jess A

hi Kat,

You don't know me. I'm a sometime lurker on mudcat really, only contribute a little, and have been for the last 10 years or more, and I always so appreciate your part in making mudcat the place it is. You come across as a very warm, very wise, and very smart individual! Anyhow, just sorry to hear that things are being tough for you at the moment.

Here is a song for you (not written by me, I hasten to add!) but the best I can offer by way of a 'hope you feel better soon' kind of present whilst simply sitting at my keyboard... I like the 'But the sun will swing the seasons, And ever win the day' line.

GOOD INTENTIONS (Paul Metsers)

It's one day we'll go sailing
Oh you, my love, and I
We'll take us down to the water
Where fair the waters lie

   And then, with good intentions
We'll try our debts to pay
But the sun will swing the seasons
   And ever win the day

Then one day we'll go climbing
Come closer to the stars
And hope that those in spaceships
Will leave them as they are

And one day we'll start building
We'll use what comes to hand
We'll join what comes together
And bind what needs a band

JessA, thank you! Nice to see a lurker come outta the walls and I really enjoyed the song.

I feel sort of in a mist these days..lots to think about and/or turn over to the Creator. So far what I do know is I have made an agreement with my bod that we will be here, together and well, when my grandson graduates from high school in ten years. Anything else that happens, improves, worsens or whatever, we'll deal with it as it comes or not."-)

Our Dear Kat, assuming we're still around in ten years time, a photo or two would be good too. Graduations are (usually!) such joyous occasions. Our Grandson who lives in Charlotte NC has just graduated from High School & will, very soon, be off on a gap year, spent in Denmark. We never thought he could be so adventurous...up until the last few months, he'd always been a bit of an introspective, 'stay-at-home' chap...just goes to show!

I don't know Kat so it is hard to give advice to lift the spirits. To get all mushy, warm & fuzzy, touchy feely but...

When I feel low I just stop and think of how other people are doing. I look at those poor folks in other parts of the world and I realize How well off I really am. I am just feeling sorry for myself.

Try feeling sorry for someone else who is 1000 times worse off than you are. Maybe even help them out.

Like Arlo said:

"During these hard days and hard weeks, everybody always
has it bad once in a while. You know, you have a bad time of
it, and you always have a friend who says "Hey man, you
ain't got it that bad. Look at that guy." And you at that
guy, and he's got it worse than you. And it makes you feel
better that there's somebody that's got it worse than you."

"I've heard that one of the factors to a long life is keeping goals out there"

I agree Bobert.

I have a standard lecture or a large chunk of advice I give to the younguns when they are maturing but seem to be lost, not knowing what they want.

I call it being Goal Oriented. I say they will not be happy unless they have a clear objective, make all of their decisions based on reaching their objectives and they can see that they are making progress reaching those objectives.

Otherwise they are drifting around with no mile markers along the road of life to tell them where they are at and where they are going.

Believe me, it keeps you going, putting one foot in front of the other and takes the worries away.

When I was a little girl there was what seemed to me to be a very old man he seldom drank. Ocassionally however he would get gloriously drunk and mum and I would kneel on the couch and watch him waltzing his way home.

It was always the same dance three steps forward waltz in a circle then a step back it may have looked strange and doubled the length of his journey but he always made it home safe.

Through ilness, trials and loss I have found I have found that sometimes the only way to get to the goal is by doing the drunk man waltz.

The other day I was sitting at my window so far from my childhood home and memories of our old neighbour began to dance through my mind. As I replayed his strange journey home I suddenly realised something I had missed as a child. For him the journey wasn't long he had a tune in his head and although his goal was to get home he did it his way and enjoyed the dance.

When life seem to be dragging me backwards I will remember him and instead of seaing each backwards step as a deafeat I will listen to the music in my head and keep dancing.

Beautiful piece, Megan, absolutely beautiful.

We're all out here Kat, keeping watch, listening to You...listening to each other; praying, thinking, meditating, doing what we each do in our intercessions. I firmly believe that within us all is an untouchable, incorruptible 'essence of self' (Perhaps that's what people mean when they talk about 'Soul'). It's the complete You, secreted away, protected from everything Life can inflict, safe & inviolate. When the time is right, it will blossom & restore You. Your energies will return & you'll be ready to re-take your rightful place in the World. These are not metaphorical ramblings...metaphorical, yes, but taken directly from my own experience, following some deeply troubling times I endured some years ago.
          With Much Love,
                                  Nigel & Ann.

Every gem you write, Megan...draws tears at its beauty, takes my breath away in awe. Thank you. (*tuning* up in my head.:-)

Nigel, your reminder about a safe place is most timely. A healer I am working with told me I need to get back in my body..it's been too scary to be in it with all the docs' pronouncements!**bg** I am to remind myself and my bod that what we are doing is for its betterment and it is safe. Your music is a good reminder of that. You know I love it. Thanks, again, for sharing it!

I know I am usually more forthcoming about what is going on. Without saying too much, my heart, lungs, and kidneys are all involved. Not in dire straits, but enough to get the docs' attention and mine. As they said, today, "yours is a complicated case." (Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that the surgeon's knots from 7.5 years ago are loose in spots, so the new heart valve can't work as efficiently as it could have. It could be my tissue didn't scar over as much as "we'd like." Angry?! Me?! Not sure, yet, but paying attention and trying not to freak out.

There, guess the kat is outta the bag a bit more.

Thanks, again,

kat

Kat, even if the stitches aren't as tight as they all should have been, anger will only make them worse, so take some deep breaths and help your doctors sort it and fix it.

As as been stated before, having a plan, even with baby steps, will help you feel better. Not just a general "getting better" plan, but an outlook that involves things to accomplish along the way. "Make X number of jewelry pieces" or "sell X number of books," if you want a simple list to cross out, along with "clean the kitchen counter" and have some more physical goals like the exercise, walking, breathing, good sleep goals you've been working on.

I like that song that Jess A posted, of the Melrose Quartet. Are you the "Jess" mentioned in the title? You're part of a great group! Thanks for giving that song link to Kat!

Our Dear Kat, I'm thrilled that something I have written can be a comfort to You. You can make the piece your own & let it speak to you in ways that are uniquely personal. Take as much rest as you can & allow your body to assume responsibility for some of it's own healing. Repeating myself, but 'Shoulder to Shoulder Kat, Shoulder to shoulder'

Sometimes the cyber world makes me sad........

I have followed along without comment to the point of feeling stupid but the truth is that for all of these years here I am on this one without words. You have always been in my thoughts since we met but now I feel pretty helpless and unable to do anything except read and hope. You never leave my thoughts......never.

It is one of the times I wish we were closer physically and not here in Cyberland.............Much Love............

I know...me, too. Sometimes words are just not needed nor enough. The sadness has kept me away somewhat. (IF they start talking of surgery, etc., we might see each other anyway...I and my doc don't want to deal with them here if that becomes the case.

Here's some good news, though: saw the kidney specialist today. He's happy with how things are going and doesn't need to see me again for 3-4 months. That's one marked off the list.

And some of you lot are great at providing it, Bert!:-)

Trying to refocus my mind on more positives: I have been free of Tylenol and Benadryl for about three weeks, now. The alternative pain med, all natural, which I signed up for, is doing a bang-up job of keeping the constant pain of fibromyalgia under much better control than anything I've ever taken before and it's only 10mg taken once in the evening.

Tomorrow I get another iron iv infusion. Might have to take it easy for a few days as it could lower my already low BP. (I've had it up to here with taking it easy!)

And, I like both of them, Meg, thanks!

A so-so day...feeling a bit more energy, maybe from the second iron infusion on Friday. Rog kindly took me to a dept. store and pushed me around in a wheelchair to find some decent 100% cotton tees which we did. They are a good quality, very soft.

I feel trapped, kind of, in a stalemate of positive vs negative from a certain doc. Having trouble getting my mind to focus on the former more than the latter. Of course, being trapped in the house by not being able to drive, nor get around without help doesn't help.

You're right, SRS, getting the new meds to work for sleep and pain is helping to realign everything, but my brain needs to catch up. It's still mired in fear when logically it doesn't make sense.*sigh*

I guess I need to be patient with myself AND puir Rog. I think I've about driven him out of house and home!:-)

Tomorrow I shall try to get a few things done..paper stuff and will have Morgan here in the afternoon.

Thank you all for your help...I really, really appreciate it.
