Subject: RE: BS: Oldude wife (prayers and thoughts) From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 13 Apr 11 - 02:11 PM Dan, this is for Linda. Olivia Newton-John talking about being a Breast Cancer Thriver, and how she decided to envisage her chemotherapy as being a golden light flooding through her body, bringing healing. By the way, it was way back in 1992 when she had Stage II breast cancer. Olivia Newton John - Inspirational Video Taken from the 'biography' page of her main website: >>>>Her charmed life has not been without its share of upset. In the 90's, Olivia successfully overcame her own battle with breast cancer, which inspired her self-penned and produced album, "GAIA," her most personal album reflecting upon her experiences with cancer. She used these experiences to gain greater self-awareness and became a positive inspiration to millions of people battling cancer. As a breast cancer survivor, Olivia has become increasingly well known and respected for talking openly about her battle with breast cancer and for promoting public awareness of the importance of early detection. Her personal victory against cancer led her to announce her partnership with the Austin Health and the creation of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre and Wellness Centre (ONJCWC) on the Austin Campus in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia. The ONJCWC will provide a comprehensive range of services and facilities for cancer treatment, education, training and research including a wellness center for the mind, body and spirit (www.oliviaappeal.com). In April 2008, Olivia led a team of fellow cancer survivors, celebrities and Olympians on a trek along the Great Wall of China (www.GreatWalkToBeijing.com) and raised more than $2 million to find a new way to treat cancer and build the ONJCWC. A companion CD to benefit the ONJCWC as part of this global fundraising effort, "Olivia Newton-John & Friends: A Celebration In Song," has been released internationally and features duets with Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem, Sir Cliff Richard, Richard Marx, Amy Sky, and Barry Gibb to name a few. In November 2009, Olivia was on hand for the ground-breaking for the ONJCWC. Olivia continues to give back to the community generously and has been acknowledged many times by charitable and environmental organizations for her ongoing efforts, among them: the American Red Cross, the Environmental Media Association, the Women's Guild of Cedar's Sinai Medical Center, the Rainforest Alliance and Concept Cure. Continuing her efforts to find a cure for breast cancer, Olivia launched the Liv Aid ®, a breast self-examination aid that assists women to exercise breast self-exams correctly (www.Liv.com). Olivia credits her own breast self-exam as the first step to her eventual diagnosis of breast cancer. Now, 18 years later (and cancer free) she has become a passionate advocate in creating awareness for early detection and, encouraging women to take a more active role in their breast health.>>>>> You know, I can see your Linda doing something similar to that walk along the Great Wall of China when she gets her energy back again.. |

Subject: Lyr Add: MANUEL GARCIA (David Roth) From: frogprince Date: 13 Apr 11 - 09:28 PM I first heard this sung by Anne Hills: MANUEL GARCIA © 1986 David Roth based on a true story, with thanks to William Janz of the Milwaukee Sentinel for sending me his series of articles Manuel Garcia, a proud youthful father, Was known on his block as a hard working man With a wife and a family, a job and a future. He'd everything going according to plan. One day Manuel Garcia, complaining of stomach pains, Went to the clinic to find out the cause. His body was found to have cancerous tissue, Ignoring the order of natural laws. So Manuel Garcia of Milwaukee County Checked into the medical complex in town, Suddenly seeing his thirty-nine years Like the sand in an hourglass plummeting down. "What are my choices?" cried Manuel Garcia. "You've basically two," was the doctor's decree. "Your cancer untreated will quickly be fatal, But treatment is painful with no guarantees." And so it began, Manuel's personal odyssey: Long sleepless nights in a chemical daze, With echoes of footsteps down long lonely corridors, Tolling his minutes and hours away. With the knowledge that something inside was consuming him, Manuel Garcia was filled with despair. He'd already lost forty pounds to the cancer, And now to the drugs he was losing his hair. After nine weeks in treatment the doctor came calling, Said: "Manuel, we've done about all we can do. Your cancer could go either way at this juncture. It's out of our hands and it's now up to you." He looked in the mirror, a sad frightened stranger, So pale, so wrinkled, so lonely, so scared, Diseased, isolated, and feeling unlovable, One-hundred-twenty-six pounds and no hair. And he dreamed of his Carmen at sixty without him, His four little children not having their dad, Of Thursday-night card games at Julio's, And everything else he'd not done that he wished that he had. Awakened from sleep on the day of his discharge By shuffling feet going all around his bed, Manuel opened his eyes and thought he was still dreaming-- His wife, and four friends with no hair on their heads! He blinked and he looked again, not quite believing. The four shiny heads all lined up side by side, And still to that point not a word had been spoken, But soon they were laughing so hard that they cried. And the hospital hallways were ringing with voices. "Patron, we did this for you," said his friends, And they wheeled him out to the car they had borrowed. "Amigo, estamos contigo ves." So Manuel Garcia returned to his neighborhood, Dropped off in front of his two-bedroom flat. The block seemed unusually deserted for Sunday. He drew a deep breath and adjusted his hat. But before he could enter the front door flew open. Manuel was surrounded with faces he knew: Fifty-odd loved ones and friends of the family With clean-shaven heads and the words "We love you." And so Manuel Garcia, a person with cancer, A father, a husband, a neighbor, a friend, With a lump in his throat said: "I'm not one for speeches, But here I have something that needs to be said. "I felt so alone with my baldness and cancer. Now you stand beside me; thank heaven above For giving me strength that I need, may God bless you, And long may we live with the meaning of love. "For giving me strength that I need, may God bless you, And long may we live with the meaning of love." |

Subject: RE: BS: Oldude wife (prayers and thoughts) From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Apr 11 - 01:43 AM Geeziz Man......I am without words for the action of your daughters.............................so I'll give you a different wig story. The Columbus community is extremely active when it comes to breast cancer in thanks to two young women. Stephanie Spielman was the wife of Detroit Lions and Ohio State famed linebacker, Chris Spielman. The other was a popular local news anchor. Heather Pick. Both chose to raise awareness as a part of their lives and they certainly did. Heather Pick was especially cool and when her cancer returned as she knew it would she once again followed her own great advice and refused to let it control her. She advised everyone to: "Search out and get the best treatment available then get on with your life." When chemo started again. she worked right along and wore the beautiful wigs she had. But then one day, on the air, she was reporting a Koman Foundation news story for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and took off her wig with a huge smile. Then she went a step further! She had been off for some additional treatment and on this day back she slapped on a bright pink synthetic wig. That got so many calls and so much support that it became a bit of a trademark for her. Both Heather and Stephanie passed away within just a year of each other and this town was devastated although everyone new theirs was fatal. At the annual "Race for the Cure" channel 10 sponsored "Heather and Stephanie's Team"...........and here was what they looked like: Over 6000 Buckeyes in pink wigs walking for the cure BTW......Bruce's cd will take you right back to the 60's......He's wonderful! Spaw |
