Subject: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Rasener Date: 20 Mar 07 - 11:02 AM Luvvly. Clocks go forward one hour on Sunday morning at 1:00 on March 25th 2007 UK Ah for those lovely light summer evenings when they arrive. |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Scrump Date: 20 Mar 07 - 11:33 AM The thing I hate most is having to stay up till 1:00am just to change the bloody clocks. By the time I've done them all, it's time to get up and I haven't had any kip :-( It seems everything you buy these days has a clock - TVs, cookers, microwaves, phones, watches, computers, radios, cars, central heating/hotwater timers, and er... I'm sure there's something else... oh yes - clocks. You know, just a clock on its own like people used to have years ago. Why do we still bother with those, I wonder? :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Peace Date: 20 Mar 07 - 11:54 AM Shit! I just went through this. |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Peace Date: 20 Mar 07 - 12:05 PM So, if I have to awake at 1:00 AM on Sunday, reset the clock to 2:00 AM, what happens to that hour? I can't take too many of these 23-hour days. The friggin' fish are all screwed up with their feedings, and if I have to do too much more of this, I will be too. Soon, supper will be breakfast, and who's got time to cook pheasant under glass at 6:30 AM? After eight glasses of wine, I'll be in no condition to drive. This is f#cked up. |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 20 Mar 07 - 12:19 PM I always change the clocks early on the Saturday evening to get it out of the way. Also, I then go to bed at my normal time by the new settings so psychologically I feel as though I haven't lost any sleep! |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Rasener Date: 20 Mar 07 - 12:23 PM Thats what we do eanjay. Peace, you get the hour back in October when the clocks change back. Now thats worth waiting for isn't it - a 25 hour day :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Peace Date: 20 Mar 07 - 03:56 PM OH. Is that hour taxable? I wouldn't put it past my government to try that. So, if as a protest I refuse to change the clock, will something bad happen to me? |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 20 Mar 07 - 04:09 PM You'll just be late for everything. |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Helen Date: 20 Mar 07 - 04:41 PM Coincidentally we are changing our clocks back to non-daylight saving on Sunday morning early. That's here in Oz, so maybe that's where the extra hour goes. It comes down to us and then we give it back to you when your changeover occurs again. So it just goes back and forth around the earth looking for somewhere to settle down. I like daylight saving. Well, I did before I started the late shift. The theory was - in my mind - that I could leave work with enough time to go for a swim in summer. But the practicality is that I am always doing something more mundane, like grocery shopping or making dinner. For a whacked out theoretical concept it does actually seem to work, in a funny psychological way. What was I going to do with that hour of daylight in the morning anyway? I would still be getting up with just enough time to spare to get to work on time. At least I get to use the hour at a time when I am awake to appreciate it. But that extra hour of daylight saving does fade the curtains, you know. And it doesn't really work for dairy farmers who are ruled by the sun-up, sun-down clock and not by something arbitrary and mechanical (or digital). Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Bill D Date: 20 Mar 07 - 04:50 PM I had the 'fortune' to be tuned into a radio talk show about the time change in Kansas when DST was made official many years ago...one elderly woman called in and announced."I don't think they ought to do it! It will confuse the chickens!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: terrier Date: 20 Mar 07 - 04:58 PM We leave our home clocks set to British Summertime all year and never change them. We also get some puzzled looks from visitors to our home in Winter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:23 PM I sometimes wonder what happens to people working nights - do people get a hour's pay less if it's the spring, and paid an hour extra if it's in the autumn? Bloody stupid arrangement anyway, messing around with the clocks like that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Clocks forward Sunday March 25th 2007 UK From: Bill D Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:28 PM I suspect they just ignore it for payroll purposes..... But I sure do like DST! If one lives near the Eastern edge of a time zone, it REALLY is important to help utilize daylight hours better. Those living near the Western edge aren't quite as affected. |
