Subject: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Herga Kitty Date: 22 Mar 07 - 05:56 PM OK, I see another wave of spam messages is hitting, so won't be surprised if the Cat goes down again for a while... best of luck, Max! Kitty |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Barry Finn Date: 22 Mar 07 - 06:23 PM I saw it too. the times between 5:44 & 5:42, I just post to Joe Offer to make him aware of this. Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: kendall Date: 23 Mar 07 - 08:02 AM What post? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: kendall Date: 23 Mar 07 - 08:07 AM I meant what Thread? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: catspaw49 Date: 23 Mar 07 - 08:19 AM It was killed off almost before it was mentioned. Great clone work! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: MMario Date: 23 Mar 07 - 08:31 AM I make a lot of use of the "posts since your last visit" page - and I can tell you from watching; there are probably a couple dozen spam posts a day that are deleted almost intantaneously. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: folk1e Date: 23 Mar 07 - 10:47 AM Is that why occasional I post only to find it has disappeared? This is NOT a complaint against anyone at MC |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: MMario Date: 23 Mar 07 - 10:48 AM probably not unless you tend to post as a random guest with posts filled with links to porn sites or advertising spots. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: catspaw49 Date: 23 Mar 07 - 10:52 AM Or perhaps you were part of a thread that was deleted. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: folk1e Date: 23 Mar 07 - 11:13 AM No, and No! it has only happend a few times and is only a minor inconvienience. Trivial realy .... I just wondered. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Mar 07 - 02:56 PM We haven't figured out why posts occasionally disappear upon posting, but it sure is frustrating. It always seems to happen to me when I'm typing something particularly profound. When I'm really on top of things, I remember to type my stuff on a word processor, spellcheck so I don't look foolish, and copy-paste into Mudcat. Then, if the message gets lost, it's no big deal. I wish I'd remember to do that more often. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: gnu Date: 23 Mar 07 - 03:13 PM Do like Joe does or, ALWAYS highlight and copy before you hit the submit! I have been doing it for at least five years. of course, nothing profound. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: John MacKenzie Date: 23 Mar 07 - 03:19 PM But at least you now have a record of your 'gems' G ¦¬] |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: keberoxu Date: 31 Oct 23 - 12:07 PM I'm a relative newcomer to the Mudcat and I have never seen anything like what I see upstairs in the music-thread section. There must be a dozen threads with different titles and fishy titles at that: I'm not opening a single one of them as I suspect someone has spammed Mudcat. I would not even know the technique for doing this should there be a way to post all dozen threads simultaneously, somebody knows more than I do in more respects than one. Nice mess for Joe Offer to clean up . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Jack Campin Date: 31 Oct 23 - 01:23 PM Someone's posted a ridiculous number of things about pop lyrics. Those posts are still there. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 Oct 23 - 01:28 PM I sent a note asking what they're up to - and am watching. The group is apparently from the 60s, we'll have to see what the music moderation folks choose to do - possibly merge these into one post. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Thompson Date: 31 Oct 23 - 01:48 PM I was wondering, @folk1e - I posted a start to a possible alternative thread called something like "This hideous war" when one of the threads in BS became unopenable, and it disappeared; there was nothing particularly offensive about it; I was musing in this post that possibly the biblical/Torah injunction "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth", which I've long regarded as vengeful, was actually an instruction to limit revenge to the level of the original offence. So that killing 8,000 people in revenge for the killing of 1,400 people is bringing revenge to extremity. That thread is in good standing, it's Mudcat that's a little bit broken right now. ---mudelf |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Oct 23 - 05:33 PM Well, I cleared up the pop lyrics requests. I usually combine such things into a single thread. I don't want to make people mad at us. We don't mind occasional pop lyrics requests, but don't want to be flooded with them. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Thompson Date: 02 Nov 23 - 03:57 AM Still getting a 500 Internal Service Error on the recipe thread if I try to post - it goes to this: https://mudcat.org/ThreadNewMess-Sub.cfm |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Donuel Date: 02 Nov 23 - 08:43 AM The Trump thread is blocked by an internal error message. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Nov 23 - 06:22 PM Nothing was closed of a science nature. The only things closed recently were all of the requests for individual pop songs by a guest, and those were merged into one. If you think a science thread has disappeared it was more likely merged with something else. In which case, do a search on your posts and follow the one you think is right and find out what thread it is in now. Max doesn't seem to have been able to repair all of the broken threads. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Donuel Date: 05 Nov 23 - 08:40 AM I expect the loss is permanent owing to the virtual impossibility of correcting a small bit of code hidden in the hundreds of thousands of lines. this was closed by a typical hooligan attack http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=171994&desc=yes |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat spammed again From: Donuel Date: 09 Nov 23 - 04:18 PM The two Threads hacked and killed are the most political. ONE WAS ANTI FASCIST and the other was anti Israel. THE MOTIVATION OF THE HACKER has not been determined but it does seem right wing adjacent. An inside job is as likely as 'the husband did it'. |
