I had a fantastic birthday. Italian meal with 8 friends, with lots and lots of red wine. Followed by cocktails in the local greek bar, a sober up session at mother-in-laws, and then round two, the local pub with more friends.

Well - I survived......everything is in its place and my office is ready to work in. I have lost my water view but actually have a great view of the interstate and the walls supporting it -- covered in interesting graffiti so I shall have something to read to keep me going......!

I can do this -- I can survive this move!!!!! Oh by the way -- it is snowing in Maine - big time.....and it is 4/15!

Uh-huh; "new car rear-ended"; so much for the nay-sayers who don't believe the day is accursed. Just came home from being out for a couple of hours, and our flag pole had rusted off and fallen over in the yard. I'm not sure if that was really caused by Friday the 13th, or if it's from the liberal corrosion of American patriotism. Maybe a little of each.

The only bummer that's happened around here today is that I looked at the TV listings for tonight and "Monarch of the Glen" has been pre-empted for some other show. (mutter mutter mutter) I sent a harsh e-mail to the TV station.

Other than that, so far, so good. Seven hours and a bit to go.

Snowing here too... started about 7AM. Bad luck for my Newfoundland gusets. Shirley wanted to hit the mall and George wanted to go to a Lifestyle show at the Coliseum. But, we'll see how bad the storm gets.

If it gets too wild, we'll have to be content with a fridge full of libations whilst we prepare the fish cakes, Ruffed Grouse, deer steaks, and bottled moose. An unlucky day? Not for me.

Sandra -- that is a great idea!!! Half of the horror is over -- my work life is in boxes except for the parts I could not bear to let go that are in my home office along with my work computer so I can at least pretend I am in control!!!

Had to go out on a building inspection today and - as Jacqui says - was snowing and actually snowing ice......very nasty but what else can you expect in Maine in late April?

One day when I was in early grade school, someone in the family mentioned that it was Friday the 13th. It was the first time I remember anything about it, so I asked what that meant. My folks weren't superstitious about it, just told me about the belief. Within a few minutes afterward, I stepped out on our porch, slipped on ice, and just about busted my ass. No, I didn't become really superstitious about it, but I always remember that.

Well, I'll start the day at 9 o'clock playing for a dance for three hours, then I'll have breakfast at that hall, then I'll jam with whoever will have me. Along about 3:00 I'll come home and spend time with my critters. Around 6 o'clock I'll go to a different hall where the Folk Festival is being put on, where I'll soak up the music until 11 o'clock when I'll either go home for the night or to just drop by home briefly to take the leetle dog out and go back to one of the numerous jammng spots.

By Thursday most of the out of towm musicians are here for the Festival - many of whome we see only once a year - and it is also the first concert of the Guest Artists. This year's GAs are the Carolina Chocolate Drops and, from everything we have heard, we anticipate enjoying them hugely.

I'm really looking forward to spending a very quiet day at home, for a change. The day after I got back from a very enjoyable, but exhausting festival, I had to run around doing things for my daughter, and the more low-key day today was not as restful as I had hoped either. So tomorrow is going to be just for me - catching up on little things around the house and the garden, and generally enjoying pottering.

The weekend is shaping up to be rather busy, so I'm going to give tomorrow night's session a miss - not like me, but I need the break.

Giok - I wasn't speechless, I kept saying "oooh" & have sent the link to a photographer friend.

TRUBRIT - the view from my window is onto the walls & windows of the next building, & sometimes the folks in the next building, who occasionally forget they can be viewed!

My view on my computer desk is lovely postcards & pictures - sunset, autumn gardens, a snowy scene, polar bears, waterfalls. Can you cover your walls with beautiful pics, or one beautiful pic of your lost view? Or maybe just 1 pic on your desk if your office does not allow private decorations?

I'll nearly be setting sail - will actually be in a dinghy tomorrow (Thurs) and at sea in a motor boat on Sat. On Friday I'll be safely sitting in a classroom on Whale Island.

Apparently (I learn from a recently acquired book) some time early in the last century (doesn't it seem strange to talk of the 20th like that?) the Royal Navy wanted to disprove the myth that it was unlucky to go to sea on a Friday.   So they ordered a new ship on a Friday, its keel was laid on a Friday and it was launched on a Friday. They even found a Captain by the name of Friday to command it and of course it set sail on its maiden voyage on a Friday.





It was never heard of again.



Or so it says.

"we" are doing a major network maintainence and upgrade operation. What a date to choose! Unfortunately it falls on what is traditionally the lowest use weekend for our network (most of the schools we support are on vacation friday)

Us too! Our black kitty had to be sent to his maker this year - cancer....nasty stuff. I shall be forced to take the day off because they are doing a lockdown at work!!!!!! Everything has to be moved across town and real estate agents tend to be Type A personalities like me so the only way to stop us working is to literally lock us out. Thank you for your condolences..... I am considering sulking for quite a while over losing my view.

I have always taken great delight in Friday the 13th being a lucky day for me, so I look forward to it. It seems kind of odd, though, first time in my life I've been without a black cat.
