Subject: BS: Earthquake in Kent? From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 28 Apr 07 - 04:04 AM I've just heard a news report saying there have been earth tremors in Kent (UK). Have any of you felt the Earth move down there? |
Subject: RE: BS: Earthquake in Kent? From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 28 Apr 07 - 04:42 AM Yes tremors in the Ashford area of Kent - only classed as moderate - which is a daily event in California according to BBC. |
Subject: RE: BS: Earthquake in Kent? From: Cats Date: 28 Apr 07 - 11:21 AM Earth tremors are really quite common in Uk as well but nowhere near as bad as most places in the world. We had one here in Cornwall a few years ago which made things fall off the shelves and pictures came off the walls. No damage though. When I heard of the Kent tremor my immediate reaction was that one of the seams in the Kent coalfields had caved in causing tremors. Worth a thought. |
Subject: RE: BS: Earthquake in Kent? From: Richard Bridge Date: 28 Apr 07 - 12:34 PM Apparently the epicentre was offshore in the English Channel. I felt nothing here in North Kent (near the Isle of Grain). |
Subject: RE: BS: Earthquake in Kent? From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 28 Apr 07 - 12:59 PM I don't know about coal seams - it's right where the channel tunnel is! Could be delayed reaction to man's meddling! |

Subject: RE: BS: Earthquake in Kent? From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 30 Apr 07 - 09:15 AM Well, Herself and I came back from a week in Kent a week ago but disclaim all responsiblity- I didn't do any singing so reports that the earthquake was caused by the stampeding sheep trying to get to the tunnel are untrue!
