Subject: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Wesley S Date: 08 Jun 07 - 12:29 PM Some of you love this show. Some of you can't stand any form of television – and I'm sure you won't resist the impulse to make a comment. BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WATCH IT – the final episode is coming up this Sunday as if you didn't know. So how do you think it will end? The guitar player in my trio thinks that Paulie Walnuts is going to whack Tony. I can see how he came up with that idea. But I also think the writers of this show are smart enough to fool all of us. I have no idea what going to happen – but I'll be watching. What do you think? |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Becca72 Date: 08 Jun 07 - 12:33 PM A friend of mine thinks that Tony will make a deal with the feds...I'm not so sure. However it ends I will be sitting on the edge of my seat Sunday night and I only hope we're not disappointed |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Greg B Date: 08 Jun 07 - 01:32 PM I'm completely flummoxed--- the fate of Bobby and Silvio caught me off-guard entirely. Well-written penultimate episode. Going from the scene with the three men sitting in the restaurant, deciding on the 'hit' on Phil (meaning gang war) and doing their happy slow-motion boxing, to one being dead, the other mortally wounded. And then there was the element of innocents getting caught in the cross-fire; the father and his daughter, the motorcyclist. I'm not so sure that Paulie has it in him to snuff Tony. He might reveal the location so that Phil's boys can come blow the place sky-high. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: John MacKenzie Date: 08 Jun 07 - 02:22 PM Call me lucky, or even careful in my selection of TV programmes, but I have managed to miss every single episode of this TV treat, and I intend to keep it that way. G |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Jun 07 - 02:27 PM Chongo says that all the principle characters are gonna get blown away in a massive shootout at the end. That's what he hopes, anyway. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Rapparee Date: 08 Jun 07 - 03:12 PM I haven't seen any of it, but I think that it will end with a commercial, probably for Viagra or something similar. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Wesley S Date: 08 Jun 07 - 03:16 PM Ah guys - It's on HBO. No commercials. Plugs for the next series on HBO perhaps - but no viagra commercials. And Giok - Thanks so much for your insight. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: RangerSteve Date: 08 Jun 07 - 05:00 PM Damn, I don't have cable and have to wait for the last episodes to come out on DVD. I'll have to go into hiding until that happens, so I don't hear about the ending. It's been pointed out by a TV critic in one of the New Jersey papers that the head writer doesn't believe in resolving a lot of the stories, which is why Adriana's murder remains unsolved, even though as one of the more sympathetic characters, I'm sure a lot of people would like to see everyone invulved die a slow painful death, and why the Russian terrrorist that Chris and Paulie took into the woods to dispose of, disappeared and was never heard from again. There are a lot more stories that were unresolved. I'm guessing that there won't be any clear-cut endings to a lot of the plot lines. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 08 Jun 07 - 05:09 PM Tony commits suicide. Just a hunch. I think I will go to the real Bada-Bing Club to watch. |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: robomatic Date: 08 Jun 07 - 05:39 PM I was betting on the Russian coming out of the woods, telling his old war buddy the whole thing, and a Russian take-over of our dear old American Mafia. Chort vozmee! |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: RangerSteve Date: 08 Jun 07 - 06:23 PM Seriously, I expect Tony to contact the FBI. You can assume that everyone else gets arrested, without having to show it on TV. And Tony then leaves the show having done the right thing and is totally dispicable at the same time for betraying his friends. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: wysiwyg Date: 09 Jun 07 - 01:56 PM Tony confesses he's been an FBI plant the WHOLE TIME, spying on Melfi for her liberal causes. She's a terrorist! (Melfi whacks him of course.) ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 09 Jun 07 - 07:17 PM I guess the Tony Awards people have got troubles----Tony Awards or Tony Soprano. Me---I opt for Tony Awards---but then I don't have HBO. By the way---a digression---I have been watching a few episodes on A & E re-runs. I am amazed at the editing---however did they get rid of all the obscenities without a glitch. And---having seen a few of the HBO episodes (elsewhere) the lack of the obscenities does not seem to detract from the whole thing. Some critics are talking about it being the greatest thing on TV--ever. Have they forgotten the glorious years that gave us things like Philco Playhouse ( Marty, Visit To A Small Planet,Reuieum for a Heavyweight, etc;), Rod Serling, Roots, and the list goes on? Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Mickey191 Date: 09 Jun 07 - 08:29 PM Bill, I too am watching for the first time on A&E. You are right on about the missing F words. I got such a kick out of the last episode where da guys got lost in da Pine Barrens. It was a hoot-They couldn't bring the Russian down! Thought he'd show up again. The other one thar knocked me out was Ida Turrtaro (sp) killing her creep of a husband. That was a shock. I clapped! Think the shrink is one heck of a lousy actress. You correct about it being outclassed by sooo many other great shows. Playhouse 90, Climax, Robert Montgomery presents. What say you? |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 09 Jun 07 - 08:32 PM I say----Yes!!! FOrgoe Montgomery. BH |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Mickey191 Date: 10 Jun 07 - 11:08 PM How many said to heck with Sopranos & the Tonys and watched Bruce Springsteen in Dublin?? It was one of the best shows EVER. Brilliant! |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 10 Jun 07 - 11:15 PM It looks like New Jersey was popular on both HBO and PBS tonight. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 10 Jun 07 - 11:33 PM I watched the Tonys. You truly have to like commercials to stick with it---it lost me after the first batch. There were more commercials than show. Never again!! Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 10 Jun 07 - 11:35 PM By the way---how did it end---according to the newscasts it was a great dissapointment and it just looked like there was a signal failure. Having said that I have to add that, to me, one of the most brilliant endings to a series was the Bob Newhart show that had him re-unite with Suzanne Pleshette and say the entire show was a dream. Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: GUEST,Lisa Date: 11 Jun 07 - 03:46 AM I have been a loyal fan from the beginning I was sad in a way that its ending...I mean I know its just a show but...well you get attached Anyway with that being said, I was soooooo disappointed with the last few seconds of the ending, I know it left it to your imagination....screw that I need CLOSURE!! Seriously, why couldnt meadow just sit down???? then they fad to black??? Dont get me wrong, loved it until the last 3 seconds Yeah I know...get a life... |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Becca72 Date: 11 Jun 07 - 08:52 AM I was a little upset last night that there wasn't as much action as I'd hoped, but thinking about it this morning I actually liked the ending. Every time someone moved in the diner I was jumping, waiting for something to happen. Kept my pulse racing for a full 15 minutes. And now with the open ending they can start filming the movie... |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 11 Jun 07 - 09:41 AM I've never been a fan of the show. Too many stereotypes. I watched the ending out of curiosity. I thought it was a brilliant ending. As you watched the final scene, everybody in that diner was a potential threat. As the audience, we were waiting to see who would pull out the gun and blow them away. We watched on edge, thinking something would happen. A person walking to the bathroom, two people walking in the store - one reaches for his belt. The daughter having trouble parking the car. Maybe the onion rings are poisoned. All possible, but in the end - all seemed innocent. For that kind of life, ever moment could be a potential threat. There is no way that he could walk away. Killing him would have been an easy way of wrapping it up, having him turn a witness would not have been true to character. The show ended like the life he led - it just goes on, you keep suspicious. "Don't stop" - it doesn't end. Life doesn't have closure, except for when we pass away - but for those around, it goes on. I think this was the perfect way to end it and I applaud Chase for the brilliant ending. Of course, he also keeps the options open for sequels! Smart move!! |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Greg B Date: 11 Jun 07 - 12:16 PM I thought the ending divided the world into two segments--- those who paid attention in English Literature and those who just got the Cliff Notes for Moby Dick. Ron, you and I have come to the same conclusion--- here's a guy for whom going out to dinner with the wife and kids isn't just going out to dinner with the wife and kids. And it never will be, given the choices he's made for himself. While he's waiting with Carmella, there's talk of perhaps some testimony against him. Then everyone starts to look like a hit man. Note, too, the underlying themes of trying to pretend to be 'normal' in the last couple of shows. Small-talk with the chef, about the kids, covering for that which they found unsettling or uncomfortable. And the attempt to have a 'normal' dinner out, following visiting Silvio and Uncle Junior. Fade to black, because however long Tony lives, whether it's seconds or decades, that's going to be his life. Pretending to be 'normal' but nothing ever will be. "I can't help you" his shrink finally says. Nobody can. A black future, indeed. |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Jun 07 - 07:11 PM I agree with Ron and Greg on this one. It was a brilliant ending, and the most suspenseful few minutes I have ever sat through in such a show. It made you feel what it would be like to be someone like Tony Soprano...doomed by his own vicious lifestyle to live in fear for every minute of every day of the rest of his life. That's what makes a guy like Tony so dangerous. |
