The incredibly talented and very lovely Ruth Archer celebrates her birthday today. Despite the fact I am privy to the information - my lips are sealed as to precisely what anniversary has been reached - suffice it to say that those who have met her will not believe it.

Cottaging in Sidmouth.

What day are you holding a cinnamon vodka workshop?

As I am an interloper in the cottage (the people who share it have been doing so for years, whereas this will be my first there), I'm not sure cinnamon vodka workshops in the kitchen would be considered the done thing...

However, my workshop can travel. Get me a kitchen and I'm your woman.

What on earth do you need to DO for a cinnamon vodka workshop that might make you persona non grata? (Can anybody come? Would volunteer our kitchen, but the others might object!)

Well, it does get a bit like a cross between the opening scene in Macbeth and a Chinese laundry when you're making it...there's sugar involved, so things get quite sticky...and everything in the kitchen smells of cinnamon for days.

Like I say, happy to travel with my cinnamon and vodka bottles, though!

Hmmm.... now there's a rather strange scenario ....when shall we three meet again, coupled with "Behind You" (ie Aladdin at Christmas) .... does the recipe call for eye of newt - in which case the charm of the idea has begun to disappear? I can think of someone else who might have a kitchen at Sidmouth - I might make enquiries [grins] The idea of a cinnamon smelling kitchen has some appeal ... never mind the vodka!!

The idea of a vodka smelling kitchen appeals too - never mind the cinnamon.

I do remember a gin and tonic evening at Sidmouth a few years ago at the shared accommodation of a certain morris team. That was fun whilst I remembered it.......

Sheffield City held a "Mad Dog" workshop at Warwick a few years ago. They came back from Poland with a cocktail recipe composed of vodka, raspberry liqueur and (I kid you not) chili sauce. The number of drops of chili sauce was important though as sure as hell I cannot remember why. Anyway 9.00 am on a Sunday morning seemed like a good time to hold it.

And I also remember a very drunken Derek Schofield (gasps -s surely not!!) though the three things were not connected.

"The number of drops of chili sauce was important though as sure as hell I cannot remember why."
Did the lack of memory occur before or after the cocktail was consumed??

A very drunken Derek Schofield? I don't believe it!

I kid you not...............mind he was in bad company - Geoff Garner from a number of different dance groups (Shropshire Bedlams/Sheffield City Morris/Flag and Bone/Ripon) and Haydn Thompson (Rumworth Morris of Bolton). ...Keith, the hurdy gurdy player from Mortimer's Morris of Nottingham....Modesty forbids me to mention who else was there..

Ok - can a cinnamon vodka workshop be combined with a cream tea workshop - or is that just too silly for words? On second thoughts, maybe they both need their own space ... but I certainly can't do a Sidmouth without the cream tea at some point of the week. Re the kitchen - I'll seewhat I can do ... how many participants do you reckon on Ruth?? Will it be going into the working programme??
