Subject: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 11 Apr 99 - 06:43 PM Hi Folks, my friend Tony Quarrington (Toronto's finest guitarist) is visiting and asked whether any mudcatters might be familiar with the song "Nuages" and especially a set of lyrics that were written for it. "The bluest kind of blues" would appear to be the title, but searches have come up blank. Being a huge Django fan, I volunteered to steer it out to our community. Any ideas? Thanks Rick |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Dave T Date: 14 Apr 99 - 05:29 PM Rick, I, too am a huge Django fan, and was surprised to hear that there were any lyrcis to "Nuages" (I'm listening to the song right now actually). I'll ask around to see what I can find out. BTW the version I've got is from the 2 CD set "Peche a la Mouche";highly recommended to any Django fans. Dave T |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Apr 99 - 09:00 AM thanks Dave. I'd pretty well given up hope on this one, but Tony swears the lyrics exist. He's having a Django style guitar built for him at the moment and wants to surprise everyone by singing Nuages. |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Roger the zimmer Date: 15 Apr 99 - 09:57 AM Just done a song title check on a record site- no likely vocalists except, improbably, British blues shouter & jazz singer George Melly: it is listed as a track on his double cassette "Scouse Mouse": I've seen him live many times & have many of his records (not this one)but have never heard him sing it, but this does suggest that lyrics exist. Steph (Grapelli) was known to sing occasionally but I doubt he'd have sung that. Someone like Lambert/Hendricks & Ross who used to put lyrics to instrumentals would be more likely. Sorry if i've only confused matters! |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Apr 99 - 12:00 PM George Melly? Great, I'll pass it on to Tony. Thanks so much |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: John in Brisbane Date: 15 Apr 99 - 07:57 PM Was helping my 12 year son out on a school project on Jazz musicians a few weeks ago, and suggested that he do it on Django. I found the sheet music for Nuages on the Web, which he incorporated as a type of background wallpaper. Before you get too excited, I don't believe that it had lyrics, but I'll try and find it again. Maybe the Django site owner could help with your query. I'll try and let you know.

Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Apr 99 - 11:44 PM thanks John, the words really seem obscure. I hope if we find them, they're at least well written. |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: John in Brisbane Date: 16 Apr 99 - 03:44 AM Rick, Bad news! I've re-examined all the URL's in my history file, re-visited the sites (I'd forgotten how many I found) and reviewed the contents. No luck ...sorry!

Subject: Lyr Add: PRISONNIER DES NUAGES (Claude Nourago) From: Peter T. Date: 16 Apr 99 - 01:56 PM Dear Rick, This may be a wild goose chase, but there is a well known French chanteur called Claude Nourago who does a lot of jazz inspired material. He wrote a song called: "Prisonnier des Nuages" on his album Chansongs (which I have not heard). A Web search turns up the lyrics: Je suis prisonnier des nuages Vous me direz : "Comment ça s'fait ?" Web site: www.math.umn.edu/~foursov/chansons/nougaro/prisonnier.html No idea if these words are set to Nuages or not. Does mention Reinhardt as opposed to Debussy though! Yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 16 Apr 99 - 04:03 PM Peter, Peter, I'll carry your guitar case anytime. Wow, what a job you did. Don't know if that's the song or not, but the lyrics are great(I went to school in Quebec and can still muddle through in French). When I show these replies to Tony he'll "plotz" (he's one quarter Jewish)
Mudcatters continue to amaze me with their kindness and resourcefulness. Rick |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: John in Brisbane Date: 09 May 99 - 08:37 PM Rick, any news on this? Regards, John. |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 10 May 99 - 07:22 PM Not a sausage, John. I think the lyric that Tony was looking for must be pretty obscure. However Peter's yeoman work has provided a pretty good one, and I believe Tony's learned it. |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Brett Lewis Date: 11 Jan 00 - 09:17 AM Rick. You'll find the lyrics in a book called Jazz Hits. It's a French publication by Alain Pierson and written by Marcel Dadi. Distribution Exclusive Import Diffusion Music 42-44, rue du Fer a Moulin - 75005 Paris. If I'm allowed I could E-Mail the lyrics.I'm new to the Web would this contrvene copywrite? If not please forward your E-mail address to h.mawditt@cableinet.co.uk. |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Rick Fielding Date: 11 Jan 00 - 01:20 PM Brett, God bless you. My friend Tony Quarrington has been hunting for these for years. Considering all the money both he and I have spent on Django (and Dadi) related material, I don't think anyone would mind. Is it possible to just print them here in this thread so that others might see what we've been hunting for. Rick |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Brett Date: 12 Jan 00 - 08:26 AM Lentement dans le soir Le train s'en va Sur le quai son mouchoir s'enfuit deja Dans la glace comme un songe Le mur gris sa maison Sous le jour qui s'alonge S'estome a l'horizon Un nuage s'etire sur son toit bleu En passant il semble dire Un triste adieu Et tout ce que j'aimais Lorsque le train vire Dans un flot de fumee S'efface a jamais (COUPLET) Le coeur rempli de fievre Un jour croyant trouver l'amour on fait un beau reve Mais l'orage emporte votre bonheur Le beau roman s'acheve Et serrant votre coeur (REPEAT) Hope Tony enjoys singing this as much as I enjoy playing it. By the way I have a Japanese Maccaferri copy made by The Kiso Suzuki Violin Company, Kiso-Fukushima Nagano, under their Takeharu Guitar models. It has a wonderful tonality to it and when attacked sounds just like Django. All the Brett. |
Subject: RE: Django's Nuages..lyrics? From: Roger the skiffler Date: 12 Jan 00 - 08:35 AM Great work, Brett, you've made Rick a happy bunny! Now if only I could sing...on second thoughts, I'd rather be able to play like Django (or anyone!). Doesn't sound quite the same on kazoo! RtS |

Subject: Lyr Add: IT'S THE BLUEST KIND OF BLUES From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Apr 06 - 06:17 PM The sheet music in pdf format is here. There is some commentary with sound samples here. IT'S THE BLUEST KIND OF BLUES (MY BABY SINGS) Words, Spencer Williams. Music, "Nuages" by Jean "Django" Reinhardt. 1946 VERSE: Of all the songs I've ever heard, I love a blue song. I know ev'ry word. Night and day I dream in a world of bliss And so I am confessing the reason is this: CHORUS 1: It's the bluest kind of blues my baby sings. It's the newest kind of blues my baby sings. It's the kind that makes you sigh. It's the kind that makes you cry, Doing something to my poor heart like a soft lullaby. CHORUS 2: It's the bluest kind of blues my baby sings. It's the truest kind of blues my baby brings, Always on my mind, Awake or a-sleeping, It's the bluest kind of blues my baby sings. TAG: It's the bluest kind of blues my baby sings. [Vocals recorded by Monica Lewis, Jessica Molaskey, and Peggy Lee.] |
