Subject: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 30 Jul 07 - 04:01 AM I watched the news with interest last night. It seems that Mr Brown, our new beloved leader is visiting America - what amused me was that it was absolutely lashing it down there - whereas we have actually had more than 24 hours without serious rain! This is probably the first time this has happened since his succession to the leadership was finalised... So (like Douglas Adams' truck drive in The Long Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul) - is Mr Brown a Rain God? Will teh deluge return with him? Just a thought... epn |

Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: Big Phil Date: 30 Jul 07 - 07:08 AM I see he thinks we owe a debt of gratitude to the States for their War on terrorism {muslims]. Not in my name Mr Brown, and not in the name of the majority in the UK I should think. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: Ebbie Date: 30 Jul 07 - 01:57 PM This reminds me of the weather experience that we had in Juneau last winter. Our normal snowfall is just over 100 inches, 103.something. Our local much-beloved and uniquely talented musician/meterologist friend did NOT like snow. By choice he worked nights and one of his pet peeves was having to shovel out his driveway in the mornings before he could drive in. Then on November 1 at the age of 56 he died, of sleep apnea. And on November 2 it started snowing and before it got stopped we had just a fraction of an inch less than 200 inches, a record for Juneau. It was like he was saying, OK, you want snow? Here is your snow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Jul 07 - 02:03 PM I know just how he felt. ;-) I really don't like snow very much at all. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 30 Jul 07 - 05:16 PM Hey Bill - I'm none too sure that we're really all that desperate to have him back. Maybe you could keep him a bit longer - we might have some summer then! epn |

Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 31 Jul 07 - 08:44 PM "Well, they do say the sun shines on the righteous........" And he is certainly a right ass. Of course he's responsible for the rain, wearing that constant facial expression of pickled misery. Has anyone ever seen him smile, I wonder, and did they perhaps turn to stone on the spot? "Medusa the Gordon"? Don T. |
Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 01 Aug 07 - 03:57 AM Doesn't anyone else in the UK remember the long, hot summer of 1976? Serious drought across the entire country. The government appointed Denis Howell as Minister for Drought. No sooner was he in place than it rained. Seems we breed rain gods here in the UK government... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Brown - is he a Rain God? From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 01 Aug 07 - 04:33 PM Ah. Liz - how I remember those heady days of my youth... 1976 - out on the moors on my motorbike on a blisteringly hot Sunday afternoon - the wind in my face as I belted through Dunford Bridge, Holmfirth, and such places as Netherthong! And when the weather broke - leaning into the wind and rain, just to stay upright, as I rode down the A628 into Penistone... Ah'll nivver forget that fust day (apologies to the late Mr Capstick)... epn |
