The actress who played Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond films has died.Lois Maxwell, who was living in Australia, passed away at the age of 80.She starred alongside Sir Sean Connery in the first Bond film, "Dr No" in 1962.
Maxwell continued in the role until 1985, when she played boss M's secretary for the last time in "A View To A Kill" with Roger Moore.
Her final movie role was in the 2001 thriller "The Fourth Angel".

Another great has gone to the theatre in the sky.

Oh no......Not Miss Moneypenny! I never saw her in anything else but awhile back I just happened to read about her. She was Canadian and at one point wrote a column for the Toronto paper. She also had a very promising early career including being one of eight young Hollywood beauties in an issue of Life magazine. Another was Marilyn Monroe. She was awarded the Golden Globe Newcomer's award when she was starting out in the late 40's.

A classy act and a great character she created. RIP and thanks

In the late 1940s, she moved to Hollywood and picked up a best newcomer Golden Globe for her part in Shirley Temple comedy That Hagen Girl.

As well as her 14 outings as Miss Moneypenny, she also appeared in Stanley Kubrick's Lolita and worked on TV shows including The Saint, The Baron, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Persuaders! and Department S.

Aged 58 when she made her final Bond appearance, she was replaced by 26-year-old Caroline Bliss for The Living Daylights.

As well as her acting career, she also worked as a columnist for the Toronto Sun newspaper.

Her last film role was in the 2001 thriller The Fourth Angel, alongside Jeremy Irons and Jason Priestley.

I always have a problem with memories being stirred up of Russ Abbott's spoof character 'Brooke Bond' (for US-types, Brooke-Bond are/were tea retailers), who referred to her as 'Miss Funnyfanny'. :-) :-)

But Lois/Miss Moneypenny was a true icon, and the subtle, yet sexually-charged interplay between her and the various JB's was played to perfection

A cauldron of suppressed sexual desires. And that was just me and my mates, when we watched her in the Bond films. Never mind the Octopussies, the Pussy Galores and the Xenia Onatopps - it's Miss Moneypenny's defenses we wanted to break down in our dreams. The word has already been used, but it is the best one to describe her:

Classy.
