i think this may be from a song by james taylor. i would liketo get the complete lyrics. i have heard a bluegrass version only, and i don't know who sang it.

definitely a Lyle Lovett song, tho' I'm not 100% sure he wrote it. It's on his PONTIAC album, readily available....

just checked COWPIE and it's there. It's called If I Had A Boat and you can get to it by searching by artist, click L, then Lyle Lovett and presto!

Click here for the lyrics. Better yet, buy Lovett's "Pontiac" album. I think it may be his best - or at least his funniest album. "She's Hot to Go" is my favorite song on the album.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation played a Lyle Lovett concert on the radio a couple of weeks ago. I was driving a long distance and started to listen as I had forgotten my tapes. I'd heard him a few times and liked what I heard but I wasn't prepared for a FABULOUS concert. Just him and guitar. Funny, literate, great picking. Now tell me: What the Hell did he see in Julia Roberts??!!

Sorry, Rick. You lost me with the collagen reference. I know what it is, but unless you're referring to how she got the lips I just can't make it out.

BTW, I always wondered -- on the rare occasion that I had to look at her -- if those were implants, but I saw a picture of her brother and he looks just like her.

Maybe we should just forget this and stick to music, eh?

Yeah, ddw, I was going to say something about Lyle having a collagen fetish, since it's rumored that Julia Roberts had collagen injections to fatten her lips. Well, no matter, she seems like a nice person. She did a nice job in "Stepmom," I think.
I think Lyle Lovett lost out by not following up on Mary-Chapin Carpenter's wishing he had his hand on her thigh. Now, there's a thinking man's woman....
Whatever the case, he sure makes great music - and he's even better in concert. You keep thinking, "Did he just say what I THOUGHT he said?" He's really clever at slipping in his subtle humor when you don't expect it.
