From: Bobert

Well, okay, seems as if no one here ever responds to any of my posts anymore...

Maybe I have become to predictable??? Maybe I'm too radical??? Maybe my typing is too poor??? No, maybe it's the spelling??? Maybe to boring???

Yeah, I do know that when I had hours and hours to blow every day in front of pudder that folks jumped right in but these days??? Hmmmmmmm???

So what's going on??? I have posted several thoughtfull posts on various subjects over the last few months and it's like they were never posted...

Okay, I'll admit that I have gotten some PM's from folks on stuff but, by in large, seems that my posts are being either ignored or folks just don't know how to relate to them???

So, hey, not that I am of the age where I can readially change what I think, what I know and who I am but, geeze, being ignored???

So, what's up???

Critique requested...

Really...

Bobert

Looking at threads where you've posted during the past couple of weeks, I'd say it's "guilt by association."

I've looked at most of the same threads before, and while the subjects are interesting enough to deserve comment, the prinicpal participants seem always to be the same sets of combatants interested more in slashing at each other than in discussion, or insisting on ranting on about their same-old inflexible dogmatic perversions.

As no discussion takes place, I've lost interest in participating, and as a result the repulsive, trite, and boring tone of the threads induces me to resist reply even to your occasionally witty and stimulating commentary. (Quite frankly, I haven't noticed whether you've been in the same sort of rut as the others. The basic vapidity of recent threads - as a whole - is too boring.)

Of course, it's entirely possible that you've been declared "one to be shunned" and I missed it by not actually reading them all. If you find the list, please pass it on, as I may be there with you.

John

To respond seriously,

1. I find the affectation, the pretence, of near-illiteracy, the presentation in an assumed dialect, a barrier to reading or appreciating (ie evaluating for thier true worth) your posts.

2. American politics is now so close to being a one-party system that I despair of it. But if you are genuinely pushing liberal values (a term of praise, not abuse, in most of the world), then more power to your elbow.

3. Come to that, even though you don't post much on English politics, that is also dangerously close to being a one-party system(thinking here of "Animal Farm, and, in the end, which were pigs and which were men) now - although I have noticed a couple of indications recently that it may be becoming acceptable occasionally for the government and people in it to admit that they were wrong.

4. The music you are interested in does not seem to include the kind that interests me most (English song).

Okay, think I will have a cold one my ownself fir breakfast... Then maybe another...

As fir "Animal Farm", I have always hoped that the pigs wouldn't become the men but lookin' at our government it is apparent that men can become the pigs... LOL... But seriously, if one takes "Animal Farm" seriously then one just gives up... I ain't into that tho I have no clue as to what it would take to make the US less consumed with imperialism, colonialism and militarism... Yeah, I've wriotten letters... I marched in demonsrations but....

Well, since you ask, and meaning no offense...

I see a significant difference between the our two major political parties. Perhaps it is true that it would be easier for a poor man (person) to pass through the eye of a needle than to become a viable candidate for election, but it is also true that the wealthy don't have to work for their daily bread and have the time to spend on politics. That doesn't mean that they are all out to exploit the working man or that liberal (and I like Webster's definition of the term) politicians are tools of the capitalist machine.

You seem to believe both of these things and, while you are certainly entitled to your opinion, to me it sometimes puts you on a soapbox in the park next to the Flat-Earthers and Alien Abductees. We have made major changes in our country in the past fifty years, and these changes have usually taken place because members of a political party adopted/co-opted a popular movement. Thinking and speaking of the Democrats and Republicans as essentially identical, and therefor considering the two-party political process as irrelevant to any kind of effective change, is divorced from reality.

I'm afraid that, when I see a Bobert post to a thread that I'm following, I say "just another rave" to myself and pass it right by. I know that I'm missing things by doing so. You are not the only person that I put into that category, and (without naming names) they come from all points of that multidimensional tesseract we call a socio-economic/political spectrum.

Richard Bridge's point #1. I might even be more willing to overlook it to read what you have to say if it were actually the literary equivalent of affecting an accent -- but it's not. It doesn't read southern, it doesn't read hillbilly. It isn't a consistent accent of any kind that I can detect. Therefore it doesn't work as the affectation of a personality -- other than the persona of a person who cannot type.

You don't discuss. You declare.

I agree with artbrooks. You are extreme and not open to the possibility that you are extreme. The characters in the drama you've invented and substituted for the real world are too black or white to be real. You have everyone pigeonholed in one or the other (black or white) but, curiously, listen to neither.

Included in that, I find it harder and harder to take seriously the language of pigeonholing that occurs here regularly ("bushites" for instance) and you are among the worst at relying on this innaccurate and maddenning shorthand.

Heck, by "rest of world" standards Bobert is not a radical leftie at all (as far as I understand him), and yes, there have been politicians in the past in the USA who have made a change, for example FDR and the "New Deal" for good, and Reagan for bad, and Nixon for corruption - but right now they are all bent capitalists, warmongers and colonalists and even the Democrats seem bent on disenfranchising the honest working man so god (or God, if that is your choice) help the man who can find no work.

In this context man includes woman.

Webster (online) gives for "liberal"

1. Showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant of his opponent's opinions".

2. Having political or social views favoring reform and progress.

3. Tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition.

4. Given or giving freely; "was a big tipper"; "the bounteous goodness of God"; "bountiful compliments"; "a freehanded host"; "a handsome allowance"; "Saturday's child is loving and giving"; "a liberal backer of the arts"; "a munificent gift"; "her fond and openhanded grandfather".

5. Not literal; "a loose interpretation of what she had been told"; "a free translation of the poem".

Noun
1. A person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties.

2. A person who favors an economic theory of laissez-faire and self-regulating markets.

IMHO use 2 would not be common in England other than in a very specialised constitutional analysis referring to specific constitutional authors' theories.

Well, KT, yeah, I have... It has been working 24/7 for the last 2 months and getting nowhere at all so the WGSR said to me, "Bobert, I have failed you an' yer just gonna have to ask yer buds in the Mudpuddle"... So seein' that the WGSR was about to burn out I figured I'd give it somethin' easy to work on, you know, like "what makes womenz tick" which oughtta be a snap... Right???

Ahhhh, yeah, okay, John and Art... Yeah, I have lost faith in the two party system and I am beginning to loose faith in the US being able to survive itself... This may come off as "black and white" and I guess it is very much so... While doing the very best I can for my ownself and the P-Vine and playing my music and doing the cool projects that I am involved with there is an underlying fear that my son won't have a stable country when he becomes my age... I mean, I'm not all that eaten up or dwell on rhese thoughts on a daily basis but I am generally pessemistic that the US can right itself...

Thankfully, however, I do have my own personal Faith, and I do love the things I do and between them they keep me going strong...

As for the accent??? Yeah, okay, I have a couple college degrees and was raised in NoVa, where accents aren't much... But since then, I spent many years working in the Richomnd City jail, which was 90% black, then another decade as a social worker working with mostly mentally ill folks, then 20 years living with mountain white folks in West Virginia so I have beeen influenced by a hodgepodge of accents and levels of grammer... Now I live in a holler where folks speak entirely different... I don't try to put on any one of them but a mix of hillbilly/black/Richmond/etc... Sometimes it works... Sometimes it don't... Yeah, I know it's "doesn't"...

The dialect/accent ain't 'sposed to be a detraction but I can see how for some folks it might be just that... What it is is an honest ***attempt*** to come off as I would come off if any of you folks were sittin' ibn a br with me over a cold beer... It is the way I talk... For those who have met me, or especially those who have seen me perform, this is "purdy" much what I sound like in the real world...

Yeah, okay, if I'm making a presentation to Town Council I can put on the hat that I wore 40 years ago and sound like an articulate NoVa'n but that ain't all that comfy but we do what we need to do... That, to me, is the phony Bobert...

Yeah, someone said in a thread that the accent/dialect that I use was phony... Well, baloney, baloney it ain't phony...

But nevermind that...

Maybe I oughtta jus "cut my hair, shine my shoes and quit singin' the blues" and then maybe everyone would be happy, right???

Nah... Sorry, too old to change much... You know, folks don't change, they jus' get more so...

But thanks fir all the critiquin'... Really...

Bobert

Sniff...

I mean, jus' sniff...

Yeah, Goerge Bush has taken a lotta joy outta our lives an' ther best thing I can say is that he ain't gonna be 'round forever... But the bad news is that Hillary will prolly be the next president and she scares the heck outta me... She's mean as cat poop...

But nevermind cat poop 'cause that ain't what's important here...

What is important is about this "firin" episode... Now, I will preface my remarks with a simple statement that, like Tom T. Hall, I like to drenk beer... But I don't quite see it perzactly the way that KT sees it... BTW, in case anyone doesn't know it, I am her "#1 Admiring Fan"... So this is the way that I remembers it...

Okay, it was like EJ, Eb, KT and me an' we were kinda doing a little jammin' back at TumbleWeed to see what we could put together an', well, sniff, EJ got it real okay and' KT, bless her heart, was trying to get to the outhouse from the penthouse but the elvator was broke... I mean, slam broke... Yeah, the gal coulda jumped to her death and, well, okay, then maybe she woulda made it into the band...

Well, folks... If you ever heard KT sing you wouldn't want her in the outhouse... She sings so purdy that it makes the hairs on yer neck stand at attention... Sho nuff does... So Iz thinkin' that unless i wantyed to spend my afterlife in Hell that I had to do somethin'... Right??? So I told her that she was fired... Heck, I had to do it... I had no other choice...

Okay, look at it this way... So what if I kept KT in the band... Then what, you ask??? Well, she prolly woulda taken the "Devil's Music" to the next level, made Janis Joplin look like a Girl Scout, and be in jail 'er some half-way house by now... Hey, what's a guy to do???

It weren't like, ahhhhhhhh, firin'... Okay it was like firin'....

But my motives were honorable an', pleeeze Lord, don't send me off to Hell over this little situation...

I'll be good... I'll help ol' ladies... I won't step on bugs on the sidewalks... I won't drive in the passin' lane 'cept when passin'... I promise I won't...

Oh, the guilt....

Tell ya' what Bobertz....The thing is this.....and I got yer "this" right here. As far as the accent shit goes I can appreciate trying to write in the same style as ya' speak. It ain't easy I admit and I have trouble doin' it myself at times 'cause I tend to piss some people off when I tell 'em what I'm about to tell you.......If they don't like it, fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.

As far as your posts, I'm up to my ass with the friggin' political threads that DO invariably attract the same combatants.....and they are combatants. I've always been a big proponent of bullshit around here but the constant bickering and dumbass stuff just wears my ass out. I'll save my efforts and talk for where they might make a difference out in the 3D world. Plus with all the things we're going through with Michael, I'm not going to involve myself in a circular argument on a computer.

Well, Bobert, people may be too depressed to talk about George W anymore, but he's certainly been a great target for songwriters and cartoonists. I'm a little afraid about the songs and cartoons that might be directed at Hillary. No doubt, they'll be prejudiced and hateful. It's not nice to pick on women presidents for being women - but it's a fine thing to pick on dumb presidents for being dumb.

Maybe then Bobert could fire me? Please?

I dunno, Bobert, 'bout this accent thing. I mean, I kin write 'n' talk pritty much like I wanna. I got me some college degrees, got 'em up on the wall of my office at work to impress the yokels. Ain't nobody looks at 'em much, mostly they read my rubbing of Shakespeare's epitath. All the diplomas mean is that once upon a time I actually knew some stuff. But I'm not in the groves of academe and haven't been since about 1982 or thereabouts, except sorta peripherally. I kin talk with ya 'bout most anything from Jesus to jezails, an' in my job that's good.

I can, of course, also elucidate my thoughts in a more academic manner, complete with footnotes. I choose not to do so, since footnotes and bibliography are usually a pain in the butt and only the truly anal-retentive, such as myself, ever gives a rat's ass.

And knowing some of your educational background, you ain't the dumb hillbilly.

Joe, surely one does not take the piss out of a dumb president for being dumb, but for being a president.

Well, it's for both, I would say. The biggest offense is being dumb while president, which is like driving while smashed -- it requires both parts.

And there are other similarities, as well, such as putting innocents at risk.

A

Bobert, ol' buddy, tell ys what, if congress would stand up and take back its power, she wouldn't have the authority to bomb Iran. Only Congress can declare war.

Tell me, exactly what are you afraid of? Is that it?

What I am afraind of is the tool dox that Bush will be leaving for the next prez... Ain't like all this "executive power" is gonna evaporate when Bush leaves... He and Cheney have carved out quite a bit of power that passes on, regardless of who is next...

Lotta Bushites don't think about that... They should 'cause with the tools the Bush is leaving Hillary, she could just declare all Bushites as war criminals and send the entire bunch of them to some secret prison in some other country...

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, Capt'n, but that's the scenerio... Executive powers are here to stay...

Ahhhhh, I have the LosLobios song loading, Brucie, but with mty pea-shooter dial up it may yake a couple hours...

Then I can get 'round to SRS's...
