Subject: Group Hug From: Craig Date: 28 Apr 99 - 11:20 PM It just seems to me that we could all use a group hug right now. Did I really say that? |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: katlaughing Date: 29 Apr 99 - 12:30 AM Good on you, Craig! You are right. I think we're all feeling a little beleagured. Join hands everyone and sing "Let there be peace on earth". kat |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Apr 99 - 01:51 AM I'm a midwesterner. How 'bout a warm handshake and a pat on the back? [grin] Whatever the case, I'm sure glad I have friends like the people I've come to know here. The world has been a pretty tough place to live in lately, and it's nice to have friends like you all to remind me of the good side of life. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Charlie Baum Date: 29 Apr 99 - 02:48 AM Perhaps the Mudcat thing would be a good reassuring song with a chorus we can all join in on. |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: campfire Date: 29 Apr 99 - 02:53 AM Hey Joe, we hug in Wisconsin! Maybe you've just been away too long ;) It is nice to have a "place" to go to escape the headlines. Hugs all around, I say. |

Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Allan C. Date: 29 Apr 99 - 09:12 AM A song title from the '40's says it for me: "I'm Glad There Is You"! You guys are so very nice to hang out with. You try your damndest to put your best foot forward (whenever it isn't in your mouth or not stepping in something). Despite an occasional adamant expression of a differing opinion or two, exemplary politeness, consideration, and respect is nearly always evident. Forums exhibiting such qualities are very hard to come by. The degree of caring, of friendliness and of love is unparalleled. Yes, hugs are in order. Handshakes or pats on the back don't quite cut it. Wish hugs weren't so difficult to push through a CPU! |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Bert Date: 29 Apr 99 - 09:22 AM Ah! I needed that. Bert (Hugging back hard) |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Frank Howe Date: 29 Apr 99 - 11:44 AM It seems to me that several threads in the past months have by design or by circumstance been about describing Mudders. Great humor, great feeling, strong convictions, and a quirky blend of healthy insanity. Along these lines (if this has already been done someone please dig up the thread, but if not) I issues a challenge - Write "The Mudcats Song"! |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Roger the zimmer Date: 29 Apr 99 - 11:48 AM As I'm British would eye contact and a polite nod be OK? |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Bert Date: 29 Apr 99 - 02:08 PM Roger, Nope, You're a Mudcateer now. Gotta HUG. Bert. |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: MMario Date: 29 Apr 99 - 04:28 PM Roger - I grew up in a small New England town, where the polite nod would be okay, but eye contact with it would make you awfully pushy....*grin* still trying to get the caffiene level up... so the hug is one armed {{{{~' MMario |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: bbc Date: 29 Apr 99 - 05:25 PM I am definitely a warm, two-armed hugger. I might even throw in a friendly kiss (on the cheek!). appreciating you all, bbc (Barbara in NY) |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 29 Apr 99 - 08:19 PM Those of you who mention where you grew up might consider that those conventions with which you were raised are just starting points not death sentences. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Group Hug From: katlaughing Date: 30 Apr 99 - 02:12 AM Imagine...all of us, in spirit, joining hands around the hospital where 'Spaw is. Linking all of our love and energy together and sending it to him; seeing the Light of love flowing through his arteries and heart, helping them to be strong and healthy. Singing a song to him..... I can just see us all smiling with the care and love which makes this such an incredible community. When we get done, that's when we turn to each other and give great big hugs all 'round. Oh, heck, he's gonna read this pretty soon and get after me for being so sappy! Anybody have some fresh litter; we'd better get the box ready! Thank you all for being so wonderful. I love you, katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Tucker Date: 30 Apr 99 - 02:22 AM Gee Whiz......shucks......blush...blush. A big hug for all and an extra for Catspaw. Love you all |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Banjer Date: 30 Apr 99 - 05:53 AM Katlaughing don't worry about "sappy". There are times when sappy is good and even needed and this is one of those times Roger the Zimmer, yes, a nod is acceptable as long as you've both arms engaged in a hugging maneuver! Tucker, what's with the "blush, blush"? Heck, were all family here aren't we? And Joe, a hand shake is fine, as long it's shaking a hand behind the back of someone you're hugging (*BG*) C'mon MMario, put that coffee cup down and get both arms in here Cuilion, your posts are a blast to read, almost like reading Robbie Burn's writings..Love it! Big Mick, squeeze harder, it's a long way to Columbus! all the rest of you guys, too numerous to mention, thanks for being here yo exchange hugs whenever one of us feels down....Thanks Craig for getting us all started |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Roger the zimmer Date: 30 Apr 99 - 08:16 AM Oh, what the hell, OK, you can have a hug (especially for Catspaw) but just don't expect me to take my tie off! |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: MMario Date: 30 Apr 99 - 09:42 AM Didn't ever say I don't hug....just sometimes it comes harder for those of us raised in "no touch" areas... {{{{}}}} ' (see? I even put the coffee cup down) MMario |

Subject: RE: Group Hug From: HEULWEN Date: 30 Apr 99 - 02:32 PM A new user, I was searching for lyrics of different songs to sing. It took a while to understand what group hugs had to do with Pirate Jenny (Steeleye do a brilliant rendering). Now I see that this site is full of strange and wonderful people. Can I join in, please. |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Allan C. Date: 30 Apr 99 - 02:48 PM HEULWEN, Yes! Please come out and play! We welcome you to spend time with us. (Notice that I didn't specify HOW MUCH time! You will quickly discover the addictive quality of the Mudcat!) |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Bert Date: 30 Apr 99 - 02:52 PM Welcome aboard HEULWEN. As a matter of interest tell us about your name, it sound crazy enough for us. Bert. |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Apr 99 - 02:58 PM Heulwen, in addition to hugs and/or hearty handshakes, we Mudcatters have all sorts of musical information. Click here and especially here for "Pirate Jenny." -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Alice Date: 30 Apr 99 - 03:14 PM Heulwen, welcome to the wonderful, warm, and... yes, wacky world of the Mudcat forum. alice in montana |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: katlaughing Date: 30 Apr 99 - 04:33 PM Welcome Huelwen. This is indeed extraordinary and addictive. Can't say we didn't warn ya**Big Grin**! Hope you'll join us often and don't be shy about asking questions, 'kay? katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Banjer Date: 30 Apr 99 - 08:20 PM Welcome aboard Heulwen!! I am a relative new-comer here myself, but it doesn't take long at all to get the feeling that you've been here and known all these folks for more years than you can remember! |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Big Mick Date: 30 Apr 99 - 10:22 PM Heulwen, WELCOME TO OUR TOWN!!!! We are so pleased you are here. You will find this site will broaden your musical horizons, as well as provide you with some great, and at times, completely wacky discussion on every thing from tipples, to Littleton, to condoms, to hugging. It is quite simply the finest online community on the Net. And you are now a part of it. A small bit of advice for you, if you don't mind. Learn to use the Digital Tradition search engine which you will find at the top of every thread. It is a blue box which you can search the DT database for lyrics and MIDI's for an amazing number of songs. Also learn to use the Forum Search feature for lyrics which have been posted in the threads but haven't made their way into the DT yet. You can also search using Forum Search for topics that have been discussed. If you see a comment from someone and you would like to read more of that persons's writings you can also Forum Search using that persons username. All the best, Big Mick |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Rick Fielding Date: 30 Apr 99 - 10:38 PM Heulwen, you have just entered a movie with a cast of characters that Hollywood would never dare invent. And you haven't even met "Paw" yet! By the way, Big Mick is in charge of sending out the Mudcat "Welcome Package". It's full of groceries, clothing (mostly Irish tweed) tin whistles, and several thousand (Confederate) dollars. It will be at your door tomorrow morning. |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Night Owl Date: 30 Apr 99 - 11:51 PM Heulwen..welcome....and if you ever find the threads too boring (unlikely) just start a new "request lyrics to" thread without first checking the database....and run! |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Big Mick Date: 30 Apr 99 - 11:55 PM Rick, You forgot to mention the knee knocker for use on gobshites what tries to call an Irish song a Scottish song. ****laughing like hell**** Mick And by the way, what are a couple of handsome, world famous, singers like you and I doing at home posting to threads on a friday night? he said with tongue planted firmly in cheek. |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Lonesome EJ Date: 01 May 99 - 12:31 AM Don't believe them, Heulwen. This site is host to as notorious a bunch of motley misfits as you are likely to encounter. One false move and you could be banished to The Christian Deer Hunters Homepage or, God forbid, The Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT create a new thread titled "Need lyrics to". And don't mention cond*ms around a certain Mr. Theime. And never, I say, NEVER mention tiples to Catspaw. Other than that, it's pretty much anything goes. Now buy a tee-shirt from Max and you're in. LEJ |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Banjer Date: 01 May 99 - 05:30 AM Heulwen, the first thing to remember is to forget everything. Do as Night Owl suggests, start a thread like "need some words", and watch some smartass (aka: Yours Truly) start listing the first page or so of Websters Dictionary. LEJ, who are you calling a "notorious bunch of motley misfits?" I, sir, resemble that remark!! Yes, Heulwen, you too, like Mick, Rick and the rest of us will find yourself sitting in front of your 'pewter posting to the various threads at all wierd hours of the day and night...(ie: note the time on this one, I could be sleeping) MMario, I saw you put the cup down and got both arms into it, very good! Now let's all pick up our cups and hoist a toast to Heulwen's induction into the Mudcat Cafe! LOVE THIS PLACE!!! |
Subject: RE: Group Hug From: Rick Fielding Date: 01 May 99 - 11:30 AM Ah Mick, how true, how true. Sitting at the computer while Heather watches "Eastenders" downstairs. At this very moment I could probably be playing "Fields of Athenrae" for the third time at the olde "James Joyce", answering guitar questions like: "a Lowden eh? is that like a Yamaha?" and wondering why the twenty year old girls in the audience are so much more attractive than twenty years ago, when I was still doing it full-time. Nope, as Lee Hays said, "Times aint what they used to be, and what's more, they never were!" On the other hand I'm doing a concert next Sunday at the Tranzac, and looking forward to seeing a lot of my peers..a little older..a little more rumpled..parents and grandparents...folks who really know and love the music. Yup, t'ain't bad. Rick |
