I don't know many.

HOMES ((The Great Lakes) and ROY G BIV (the colours of the rainbow).

Ya got any others?

"Every good boy deserves fruit" and "Face", the notes for the lines and spaces (respectively) of the treble staff.

But I'm sure there's another thread that mentioned lots.

Cheers, Rowan

To remember the names of the eight bones in the wrist:

"Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can't Handle."

Starting from the thumb, the eight carpal bones are Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform, Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, and Hamate.

Ah, Kat, I'd thought to avoid the acronyms but they're a fruitful bunch that include several with awkward and unnecessary repetitions; eg
PIN number for Personal Identification Number
and
HIV virus for Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

Back issues of New Scientist give lots of these and there's even a nomenclature for them. Which I also forget.

Cheers, Rowan

Do men ever visit Boston? British nobisity in order of rank (minus baronet).

On old Olympuses towering tops, a Swede and a German vaulted and hopped. Paired cranial/spinal nerves.

Peace, the colors of the spectrum, according to my seventh-grade science teacher, were VIBGYOR, which has the advantage of giving the correct sequence--violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red.

SOHCAHTOA (sine-opposite/hypotenuse : cosine-adjacent/hypotenuse : tangent-opposite/adjacent) in trigonometry.

Students often make up their own memorable rhyme using the letters or associate it with the volcanic island Krakatoa.

There is also a large class of mnemonics based on the numbers of letters in successive words. For example, pi is "How I need a drink, alcoholic of course, after the heavy lectures concerning quantum mechanics", and e is "To destroy a building, we detonate a quantity of hydrogen bombs". My home telephone number, oh, 40 years ago, used to be "Fineman's retreat, situated on a tiny estuary". At work it was "Generally an avid editor is fucked up".

Kids play catch over farmer Green's silo. Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species. Worked for me in Grade 9 Science.

And although its not mnemonics, but from the same general time, I never forgot the difference between stalactites and stalagmites after someone told me, " When the mites go up, the tights come down".

For cranial nerves, the Swede should be a Finn:
On Old Olympus's Towering Top A Finn And German Viewed Some Hops

The letters stand for Olfactory, Optic, Occulomotor, Trochlear, Trigeminal, Abducent, Facial, Auditory, Glossopharyngeal, Vagus, Spinal Accessory, and Hypoglossal.

Since the Auditory nerve is also called the Vestibulocochlear nerve and the Accessory nerve is also called the Spinal accessory nerve, some remember:
Oh Oh Oh To Touch A Fresh Virgin Girl's Vagina And Hymen

For carpal bones there's the unforgetable:
Never Lower Tillie's pants, Mother May Come Home
standing for Navicular, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform, Multangular (greater), Multangular (lesser), Capitate, and Hamate.

For the planets sans Pluto, you might like:

Well, Kat, they are fun too.

Dave, your the colors of the spectrum, according to my seventh-grade science teacher, were VIBGYOR, which has the advantage of giving the correct sequence--violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red is the first time I've seen this sequence. I suspect it is unique.

Almost every English-speaking continent I've encountered has ROY G BIV, which is the same as yours but in order of decreasing (rather than increasing) wavelength in the humanly visible part of the spectrum and has the advantage of resembling, memorably, a person's name.

Cheers, Rowan
