Subject: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Skivee Date: 16 Mar 08 - 11:41 PM I've been trying to film the name of a film for many days. What I know: It is set in Seattle. Released in the late 80s or early 90s. It's a romance about two querkie oddballs living in Seattle. He MAY be a go-getter bike messenger who dreams of owing his own service...in Seattle. She MAY seem an unlikely love interest. The two are simply adorable, but resist getting together. They hook up, she gets pregnent...in Seattle She takes a pregnancy test.Important image- The two of them are looking at the test strip debating about whether or not the thing has turned blue. The stick is as blue as colbalt glass First they are freaked, then really get into having the kid. She nearly gets killed in traffic accident.Important image-She was T-boned out of nowhere. Loses the baby. Sad. Their friendship goes downhill from the strain. Other stuff happens...in Seattle. Kinda low budget. What is bothering me is that I recall the movie as being hugely recieved when it came out. I don't find it on IMDB. Any Ideas? Soothe my fevered brow, dear friends. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Peace Date: 16 Mar 08 - 11:46 PM Sleepless in Seattle? |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Peace Date: 16 Mar 08 - 11:47 PM PS, I never did see the movie, but other than Bad Day at Black Rock, it's the only movie I know of with Seattle in the title. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Skivee Date: 16 Mar 08 - 11:50 PM I should have remembered to exclude that one right up front. Sorry. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: GUEST,Chicken Charlie Date: 16 Mar 08 - 11:55 PM I don't think you really had to exclude SiS, Skivee. We're just dealing with Peace's lovely baroque sense of humor. Or maybe Rococo. My nomination is "Manhatten Melodrama," with Zsa Zsa Gabor as the pizza guy and Pierce Brosnan as the girlfriend. Those were underservedly unrecognized tours de force as acting jobs, by the way. Chicken Charlie |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Mar 08 - 11:58 PM Sounds like a Harlequin romance. They were making those into films a lot for the cable channels back then. They still do, that's what fills the days on Hallmark and a couple of the other "women's" cable channels. If you can't find that one, let me suggest something easier to find but with all of the pathos: An Affair To Remember. It's minus the pregnancy, but that isn't for lack of trying. The most popular version is the 1957 Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr flick, but I prefer the Irene Dunn/Charles Boyer earlier version called 1939 Love Affair. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Skivee Date: 17 Mar 08 - 12:13 AM I should also have noted that the movie wasn't a Hallmark movie of the week. It was a real flick, in a real theater. kinda edgy. If it turns out to be a HMOTW, I will be annoyed. I swear...I'm not nuts...you people stay back over there. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Mar 08 - 12:17 AM It sounds pretty horrible. Maybe Seattle disowned it and the name of the city was changed to Portland. :-/ |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: katlaughing Date: 17 Mar 08 - 12:22 AM If it was filmed in Seattle, you might look through the titles HERE and see if any of them ring a bell. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Mar 08 - 12:39 AM Clever of you to find that list, Kat! I did a plot and keyword search at IMDb but didn't find a very sortable list. I hope a name rings a bell--because that is still quite a list to have to run through IMDb, even narrowing it down to a few years. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Skivee Date: 17 Mar 08 - 01:04 AM Yes, Kat. A very good resource that was. I saw many great films and features on the list. Sadly, no films seem to even nearly match. I'm certain on the bits about Seattle, young love, pregancy lost after a traffic accident. Thanks for your help. I will contine on my trek across the wasteland. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: GUEST,Chicken Charlie Date: 17 Mar 08 - 08:58 AM How about actors/actresses? Seriously, do you remember anybody who was in it? CC |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: artbrooks Date: 17 Mar 08 - 09:22 AM The only flick that I can remember with a bicycle messenger is Quicksilver, but the rest of your plot recollections don't ring any bells. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Mar 08 - 09:57 AM Why don't you visit NetFlix and search on keywords there? They have been tweaking their search and organizing software in order to predict what films their users will like. You could search by year, by actor, by plot premise, etc., but you could also try poking similarly plotted films--they have a system of popup windows that suggest other films that have similarly-weighted characteristics. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Becca72 Date: 17 Mar 08 - 10:27 AM Hey, if it ain't baroque don't fix it. This plot sounds vaguely familiar though I have no idea why. If you could come up with the lead actress/actor you could do a search on their filmographies (if they admit to making the movie, that is). |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Mar 08 - 12:33 PM Was this a comedy or drama? Some comedies can be quite dramatic, but the category helps when sorting through a lot of films. |

On the other hand, the Bike messenger factor the one that I am absolutely the least sure of. Where are you finding these arcane list sites??? amazed. |

Here's netflix's blurb on it: Generation X neighbors share their bittersweet, intertwined stories of the single life in this sweet, quirky film from Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous). Set against the backdrop of Seattle's grunge music scene, the film boasts a killer soundtrack with cuts from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and more. The cast includes Bridget Fonda, Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, Matt Dillon and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder (in a cameo). |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Slag Date: 19 Mar 08 - 05:56 PM "Preggers in Seattle"??? I remember seeing this turkey. For a while you could find it on just about any movie channel on Dish on any given night---then gone! It probably was an OK movie, the first dozen times through but it got a little thin towards the end of the run. Alas, judge for yourself. I suppose I am a little jaded on the genre. |
Subject: RE: BS: I can't remember this movie From: Bat Goddess Date: 19 Mar 08 - 07:27 PM Just watched it within the past coupla months -- "Singles" with Bridget Fonda, Kyra Sedgwick, Campbell Scott & Matt Dillon. "Romance in the '90s is where you find it...A stellar cast joins writer/director Cameron Crowe in this sweet, funny tale of Settle twentysomethings searching for -- and running from -- love." Decent film -- I won't de-accession it until Curmudgeon sees it. Fun. Linn |
