Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 07 Jun 08 - 09:22 PM gnu, that fly game thing is no damn good-- it has to be buzzing around HOCKEY FOOD. That we can pick up and consmue, for points, plus a beer to wash it down. While we dodge flying pucks. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: gnu Date: 06 Jun 08 - 08:34 PM Sniff. Mommy! It's over! (Sorry... Canuck joke.) Well darn! What to do on the weekend without havin to plan for hockey? Ya know less than half of the guys will show on accounta The Cup is over and they got points and favours ta cover eh? Anahwhay, I got ta thinkin about the lads what still harbour emoticons fer their missuses and I searched out this old love song. Every time I play it, I get musty. Check it out. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: topical tom Date: 06 Jun 08 - 08:23 PM I have to admit that the better team won the Cup.Congrats, Beer, and all Red Wing fans! NHL champions 2008! |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 05 Jun 08 - 06:46 PM Glad you came back Rich. See you next year. Have a great summer. adrien |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: GUEST,Rich Date: 05 Jun 08 - 05:43 PM OK, Yeah, the Wings are a much better team. Truthfully, we shouldn't have lasted till game 6. The Wings outplayed the Pens 55 minutes out of each game and the Pens pulled out a few miracles during the other 5. Still it was a fun series to watch(albeit painful at times). We'll be seeing you in another series within a couple of years. I have to agree that this thread remained extraordinarily civil and fun. Rich |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 05 Jun 08 - 05:11 PM Wow - what a team! What a season! What a playoffs! What a finals! Yes, it is a fine day in Hockeytown South. Words are just not flowing at the moment, but thanks to Beer, Big Mick, WYSIWYG, gnu and everyone else who participated in this fine thread throughout the playoffs; and yes, it is really nice to express our thoughts and emotions here regarding our favorite team (and as I once wrote - I take no quarter)and do it with respect for the other teams and those friends who support them - kinda like the handshake at the end of the series - very cool. Needless to say, I'm hanging around her pretty regular; so, like Beer I'll keep looking in until this thread disappears then I'll take a bit of a sports breather and wait for college football to start so I can cheer on my Fighting Irish - which, of course means that hockey season is just aroung the corner and we start all over. GO RED WINGS! Cheers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: gnu Date: 05 Jun 08 - 03:56 PM Hey.... that "good friend of mine" shall remain nameless, but I will say, he is laughing over it a good deal. |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: gnu Date: 05 Jun 08 - 02:09 PM ~S~... no problem... just ask a clone to do it. A good friend of mine sent me something to keep me busy until next season. I very seldom play these but this is downright addictive. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 05 Jun 08 - 09:52 AM As it turned out, I liked the fresh thread too. It certainly ran long enough to make a big ole thread, didn't it? I think this one should be retitled to indicate the year, though. The one trick Therrien didn't play (that I alluded to previously) would have been to surprise and confuse the Wings by starting Conklin. His manner of playing the puck would have thrown the Wings forecheck off and the Pens' D might have gotten some better plays up ice..... Fleury would have cheerfully gone along with it and after 2 games they could have put him back in to confuse the Wings all over again. :~) (Briefly.) There are few places in hockeydom, outside of the handshake for players and right in the arena seats for the fans, where being for one team does not involve disparaging the other team. Here at Mudcat I never felt my team was being disrespected, and I appreciated that. In the OT thriller in fact it WAS as if you were all here in our living room. Next year we will have to work on how to virtualize the event even more. I'll start. Is there anyone here who has not heard how our dogs celebrate a goal when our team scores? Next year I'll get pictures including a living room shot with the winter recliner setup. We can put our respective pix up somewhere. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 05 Jun 08 - 08:57 AM LOL Sandy. But maybe you should give a brief description of Frenchy's as I don't think you will find their stores out side the Atlantic (or should I say the Maritimes)Provinces. I feel like getting on a plane and heading out to Harbor Grace. I'm sure the party will go on for a while yet. The Wings were truly a great team to watch and even though there will probably be a few retirements taking place they will still be a club to contend with next year. I'm not predicting a Cup but they will still have a great season and fans in the Eastern Division will still say"Ya, but the Western Devision is not as tough and the Wings won't be able to match the hard hitting clubs of the East". Those fans that say this (and there are still a lot of them around.)better wake up because this game has become a skating game since the rule change of a few years ago. If these changes had been made sooner we would have had Yzerman, Lemieux, Bourque, and other greats playing a lot longer. But goons shortened their season. All in all, the Penguins have a dynamic team and if Lemieux can keep this great bunch of fellows together the cup should be heading their way for a number of years. It's been fun and thanks to all who has been participating. You know who you are. Surprisingly this thread and those before (on Hockey) have a lot to be proud of. Sure some comments can get under our skin but compared to some of the threads that are posted this has to be one of the most civil of them all. Until next season, have a great summer. I will keep my eye on this thread until it goes off. I also like the idea of starting a separate thread on hockey when the Playoffs begin. Like the above title as well for the Playoff section. It's like a new season once it begins. Adrien |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 04 Jun 08 - 11:10 PM Yeh, Congratulations to the Wings from me as well! As much as I would like to see the Pens go all the way the Wings were dominant throughout the series and the season as well. They deserve the win! |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: GUEST,Jack The Sailor Date: 04 Jun 08 - 10:51 PM Congratulations to the Wings. I suspect that the Pens will have a few more chances in the next few years. What a great young team! |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: maire-aine Date: 04 Jun 08 - 10:42 PM And the Stanley Cup comes home to Detroit where it belongs. They don't call this "Hockeytown" for nothin'. Is Mike Babcock not the best coach in hockey???? Go Wings. |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Jun 08 - 05:24 PM This just in: Based on NBC-TV protests over the LAST game's length, the NHL announced today that they have had to institute a new NEW OVERTIME PROCEDURE based on an obscure minor league practice. ~S~ |

BUT, it's THE CUP! Can't wait for the game Saturday night! Invited a bunch of buddies over... even a BYOW night, as long as they don't take over the kitchen and start cleaning stuff and making comments. Gonna be great... lots of BBQ'd finger food and horse devwowers and munchies and such. Yer all welcome. Go Penguins... yes, Penguins... I got money on it. And on Saturday's game too. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Jun 08 - 01:13 PM No overtime tonight. Where'd my post go? LOTS of overtime tonight! We have a 6-hour tape all ready to go. Lots and lots of lovely hockey. GO PENGWINGS! GO PENS!~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 04 Jun 08 - 12:02 PM Being a Maritimer I certainly understand your love toward the Penguins Sandy. I have been a Wing fan since 59. Way to late for me to change. So sad about Luc and then there was the Basketball tragedy as well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 04 Jun 08 - 09:56 AM My apologies to Johan Franzen - Niklas Kronwall put the puck in our net. Good Lord, it starts all over again tonight, too. GO RED WINGS! Cheers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 04 Jun 08 - 09:18 AM How about that beautiful goal from Zetterberg Datsyuk stick. That was not a Lucky deflection. This was an intended perfect shot. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Jun 08 - 09:02 AM Wait a second Pens fans: don't forget to thank Johan Franzen for the free goal he gave you - that couldn't happen again in a hundred years. There are goals like that all the time in hockey games. All teams have to deal with them, winning and losing. Just part of the game-- although of course no one likes it when their team is the one that has inadvertently done it. GO PENGWINGS! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 03 Jun 08 - 11:58 PM Fleury played like a brick wall. As a Cape Bretoner and Nova Scotian I am now rooting for the Penguins because of Crosby and the junior Screaming Eagles ties to Fleury. Detroit played by far the better game but Fleury owned the net. What a performance especially after losing close friend Luc Bourdon. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: gnu Date: 03 Jun 08 - 07:32 PM Well... that WAS some of the greatest tending ever. Outshot THAT bad and win?... and with the the chances? I agree, Beer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 03 Jun 08 - 07:10 PM Old had nothing to do with last nights game. I don't call a team getting 58 shots on net old. In fact since the beginning of the playoffs Detroit was out shot in only one game. You didn't get lucky, you had great goadtending and you have a great goaltender not a lucky one. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jun 08 - 07:10 PM :~) I think we are all agreed we would prefer to see all 7 played, yes? GO PENGWINGS! ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: GUEST,Rich Date: 03 Jun 08 - 05:37 PM I guess after 100 plus minutes of play, "experience" just reverts back to being ah-what's-the-word-I'm-looking-for.... OLD! Seriously, We got lucky but I'll take it! Probably prolonging the inevitable. What the hell! Pens in 7 Rich |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: maire-aine Date: 03 Jun 08 - 09:48 AM I tried to stay up, but I just couldn't. Fell asleep a btwn 1st & 2nd ot. It's just a small setback. GO WINGS! Maryanne |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jun 08 - 09:02 AM Even a bad plumbing leak coming through our kitchen ceiling in the 2nd overtime didn't rain on THIS parade. We just dealt with it-- one on the game and one on the buckets. I think something in the wall popped. We just turned off the house supply and went to bed. That's what morning is for! :~) ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 03 Jun 08 - 12:51 AM Yeah, Beer, that's a "SHIT" from me too. One would suppose that it is now a three game series and anything can happen. Goodnight. |

If they play all night I'll be watching. To bad there has to be a looser. Yep I know, no such thing in this particular game because of the way both teams have played. Anyway. Here's to both teams. Salute!!!!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 02 Jun 08 - 11:37 PM Well I stood in front of the T.V for the 3rd. and first overtime and finished my 6 pack. No beer left. Bring out the Tomato Juice from Lemington Ontario. Close enough to the Red Wing border. I gotta sit down. I am totally exhausted and all I've done is watched television. What a work out. Go You Red Wings Go. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lord Stanley's Cup From: Beer Date: 02 Jun 08 - 10:00 PM Go Wings in the third. Looks as if they woke up a bit in the second. The first was awful. Passing was way off. Go Go Go |
