As some of you will know from the "Funding a New Album" thread, I'm hoping to get back into the studios to record a new album, as soon as possible. Only problem - lack of money! So I'm following the example of various other performers and asking my friends, family and fans if they would like to pay in advance for a CD (or more than one) in order to enable me to get the CD made. You'd be acting as a theatrical "angel", but not expected to just hand over the money - you'll get a CD, email updates and MP3 previews at least.

If you'd like to help out, have a look at the page on my website where it's all explained. All the money sums are in sterling but you can use PayPal, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions.

Oh, and tell your friends (if you think they'd like my music, that is).

Paul, there are some samples on my website. You'd have to go to each individual CD page to find them, though! You can also hear my songs on the MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/annelister) or via Last.fm.

To everyone else - I'm getting a bit emotional here, because you're all so wonderfully supportive! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The album will have three main "strands" of songs: some have been inspired by the work I've been doing with prisoners, some are true stories turned into songs and some are lesser-known Welsh folktales turned into songs. Which means the provisional title is "A Twist in the Story".

I've done the Paypal thing. I'm coming to the UK in August and going to the Getaway in October, if the time frame fits I would be happy to bring back CDs for those in the USA and either mail them here or hand them out to them what's going to the Getaway.

And, speaking of angels, there is a website, Story People, I think, that has a number of interesting insights into angels as well as everything else. A couple of their thoughts:

Most people don't know that there are some angels whose only job is to make sure we don't get too comfortable and sleep through life.

I'll bet even an angel's butt itches if he has to do too much sitting on hard places.

Once again my instincts have served me well. As one of the Angel Brigade, I get updates on this project. As a part of those updates, we get to hear tracks. I just finished listening to "The Ghost". May I tell you that our Tabster is a marvelous singer, and has a wonderful sense of arrangement? This is a marvelous piece of story telling done in song. Anne has such a distinctive voice, and I am going to be a very big fan of hers if the rest of this project goes like this one. Great production values, just the right instrumentation, and delivered very well. This will be a very good CD, methinks.

It is not too late to get onboard as an "angel", and I believe you will not regret it. I might just get in for another subscription.

Oh, thanks, both of you! I came home on Monday night totally exhilarated with what we were able to achieve with the first three songs to be completed and it's great to get these reactions from outside ears! (I take it for granted that my husband will love what I do - or at least say he does).
I have to say I am very blessed in my team of musicians. On this song these are Mike O'Connor (CrowderCref of this parish) on fiddle, Steafan Hannigan on bodhran and duduhk and Matt Crum on sax and keyboards. Matt is my godson and plays in various bands including Peeping Tom, Steam Chicken, the QPs and his own jazz band. He's a recent graduate of the Leeds university music degree (not Newcastle), been involved with folk music and dance since babyhood and he's definitely a name to watch out for.

On the Angels side - we've covered recording costs, I think, but could still do with more income to sort out manufacturing and possibly promotion.
