Subject: RE: Janis Ian - Free Concert From: lefthanded guitar Date: 07 Jul 08 - 02:04 PM You're welcome SRSage, I hope your friend made the concert. She was terrrific. There was a misty rain, but not too bad, and no one in the audience wanted to leave. As always, she was amazing; did her 'hits' (like Jesse & Seventeen) and an eclectic bunch of songs (including a version of Beatle's Love Me Do) and some personal favorites of mine (like Watercolors) . It was just her and a softly miked, deftly played electric guitar. She is an amazing musician and songwriter- very warm and funny as well. Cracking jokes about being 50 etc. After the concert people could meet her and get their albums/CD's etc signed, which we did. I really enjoyed when she did a bit of talk about "Seventeen" and how some people ask her: doesn't she get sick of singing the song?; and she tells how it's been sung and enjoyed by people in so many countries, and that makes her want to go on singing it. What a heart touching song, still vital to this day. So don't worry, if you ever see Janis Ian, she'll be glad to sing that song for you (and judging from her good spirited personality I'd bet she would sing any song you asked for.) Just a lovely lady! Seems like an old friend that we've all come through the years with. |
