I wrote this song for my daughter's wedding a month ago
and thought I would share it since many of you know her. She was a NFL Cheerleader. I am no singer so please forgive the voice, nor am I much of a song writer

Dan,
A song your daughter will cherish the rest of her life.
Well done.
And there is nothing wrong with your voice.

Your daughter's a beauty, her hubby is a hunk, and that song is really, really sweet. I think it would touch any father of a daughter, not to mention the daughters. Loved the slide show too.

Jeri
thank you so much for the kind comments. Kids grow up so fast, I don't know where the time went, I don't remember getting older.
Passes by so fast

Dano, congratulations! I like the lyrics, the tune, and the feel of "Katie's Song". I especially like the ending of your song where your daughter asks you to sing your Irish songs.

I also like the photo slides and btw, your daughter is beautiful!

Best wishes,

Azizi

Dan, I tried to post a comment to your YouTube video two times.

I hope one of them takes and not both of them, though the comments were slightly different.

What Jeri said. (She beat me to it.)
Beautiful daughter, gorgeous son-in-law, lovely and special song very well performed.   Very moving slide show too.   Thank you for making the musical montage and sharing it on YouTube, Dan.

I'll just have to have a quick snuffle and wipe my eyes, must be a high pollen count or something ....

I'm not the sentimental type and was prepared not to like the song much, but it was lovely and I understood it so well, having two daughters who are now grown-ups. I think the slide-show really nailed it for me. Your daughter will treasure this, although she won't really understand it fully until she's older.

I hope that you, like us, will be lucky enough to have and enjoy grandchildren, and will share your song with them.

I don't know what to say but Thank you all for the kind words. I am not much of a singer or song writer, just wanted to do something special for my daughter. Now as Bruce told me, I have to do the same for my other two daughters when it is their time. Oh boy ... I better start working on them because I am sure it will take me forever to think of something. I can see I am in trouble now :-)

Sorcha
sure her it is:

      Katie
       by Dan O'Connell

Sitting on the porch alone
A little girl that is all grown
wondering how she's doing - so far away from me

Calling Rocky Mountains home
city life she's on her own
Years go by but in my mind all I ever see

Chorus:
Daddy play your old guitar, will you sing your irish songs
will you take me off to Welch's Park, can we walk the beach alone
I'd give the world and all my dreams, if once more I could be
On the porch this old guitar, my little girl and me

Pigtails and Barbie dolls
running wild through the hall
three wheeled bikes and old brown dogs
the way it use to be

seasons come and seasons go
she's making angels in the snow
help me tie my sneakers dad, it's just too hard for me

Days go by and seasons pass
memories forever last
flowers grow and blossom fast the way it has to be
Wedding rings and all the things
a brand new life with all new dreams
waiting for the one day when her own child says to me

Grampa play your old guitar .....

Dan, lots of people besides members and regular guests happen upon these Mudcat threads, and you and other folks should take care to protect what you create...

I'm sure your just forgot to post your copyright and the date you wrote that song along with your name and the lyrics you posted above on 14 Jul 08 - 09:15 AM.

"Katie's Song" definitely deserves to be recorded. And any recording of that song or any inclusion of its lyrics in any publication should definitely credit you as the writer/composer and include the date you wrote it.

I'm just sayin...

Azizi
thank you for reminding me, I did copyright the song with the US copyright office formally along with the other songs I wrote before I posted it on youtube. I do have a registered copyright on it. I am working on a CD, a collection of my songs for my kids and my family. I am an amateur and just mainly write for myself or my family

thanks so much
Dan
