If you're speaking of Standard Time/Daylight Savings Time changes, some calendars were wrong when they listed it was supposed to happen last week. As of 2007 there is a law that says it will happen on the first weekend of November, no longer the last week in October.

Ask my why I know this . . .

Ah but in the UK - what is the law?

One of our customers now uses a servinr in Cincinati and between the different changovers the e-mail meeting notices got changed to one hour different to the intention. So all but the instigators turned up an hour late and it took a week to prove who was wrong. And the guy who got it wrong is a pedant. Not that it phased him one wit. But we make a mistake and ............

On 10/27/2008 Mudcat member 33 1/3 wrote "Having turned back the clock one hour..."

Did I miss something? Were we supposed to have turned our clocks back an hour? {"we" meaning people in the USA, at least the ones who are on daylight saving time, which I think is most of us, but I don't know that for sure}.

I think that I'm still on EDT {Eastern Daylight Time} or should that be EDST? {Eastern Daylight Saving Time}. But should I have moved my clocks back one hour to EST {Eastern Standard Time} two days ago??

And btw, thank God for the saying "Spring forward. Fall back". Though I've been known to "fall forward" I've never "sprung back" so that saying is a good memory tool for me.

Oh, wait a minute. My computer automatically turns the clock forward or back during those switcheroo forward or backwards times. So I guess it's still EDT for a couple more days. Here at least. In the United States. The parts of the USA that have daylight saving time. Which I guess isn't all the states. But I don't really know for sure.

But one thing I do know for sure-
The Times. They Aren't Changin' yet.

:o)

Btw, welcome new Mudcatter 33 1/3!

The times they are a changing indeed ! So pleased to see the BBC finaly dealt with these two creeps.

Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand have been suspended in the wake of the scandal over their lewd calls to Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs.

BBC Director General Mark Thompson, said: "This is not a marginal case. It's clear from the views expressed by the public that this broadcast has caused severe offence and I share that view.

"This gross lapse of taste by the performers and the production team has angered licence payers."

The granddaughter of Sachs has called for the pair to be sacked.

Georgina Baillie, 23, said she may make an official complaint to police about Brand's prank radio show phonecalls to her grandfather.

The BBC has received more than 18,000 complaints over a broadcast on October 18 in which the two presenters rang up Sachs and left messages on his answerphone in which Brand said he had slept with Miss Baillie.

Ross, 47, suggested the veteran actor Sachs might kill himself when he listened to the message.

Miss Baillie, who dances in a burlesque troop called Satanic Sluts, told The Sun: "What's funny about humiliating a lovely old man who has never harmed anyone in his life?

"My grandfather is really upset and says he wants the whole situation to end.

"I will be speaking to him to ask whether we should complain to the police and we'll be making the decision as a family.

"They (Brand and Ross) should at least pay for what they've done with their jobs."

Aspiring model Ms Baillie also said that the Radio 2 bosses who allowed the DJs' on-air calls to be broadcast should also go.

She added that she felt "totally and utterly exposed and betrayed" by the calls.

The media watchdog Ofcom is investigating the broadcast while the furore even drew condemnation from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Sachs, 78, told the BBC his granddaughter "feels very guilty".

"I have not seen or spoken to Georgina yet. She's very upset at having put her family through this and she feels very guilty," he said.

As to seeing her in the newspapers, he said: "I do not like it, would you? But it's her life and I just let her get on with it.

"Jonathan Ross has personally delivered a letter of apology and some flowers.

"He made no excuses and was very frank and open. He's in a lot of trouble and I don't want to pile any more on him."

Jeremy Hunt, the shadow culture secretary, told Sky News that all broadcasters needed to take their responsibilities more seriously.

Because I had one of those wrong calendars and as a consequence changed all of the friggin' clocks on Saturday night and Sunday before I realized it was the wrong weekend, so I had to go change them back! There are still a couple around here that are all ready to go on Sunday, because I didn't feel like taking them apart again to reset the time--twice!

One of my clocks is a chiming clock, so I'll have to put it forward 11 hours, rather than turn it back one. What a pain! It is pretty, though.

SRS-LOL!

Well, since my birthday is in December, I went one whole year thinking I was older than I actually was-until my birthday came that year.

{That may not have anything to do with this thread either, but I just felt like sharing it}.

Azizi, I did that without the excuse of having a birthday in December. I got tired of all the "Yer 29, sure, hurr-hurr-hurr" jokes when I was twenty-nine, so anyone who asked got told I was thirty. Then, when my birthday came around, I'd said it so often I'd forgotten, and thought I was thirty-one. It was another year before I figured it out, and then only because a close friend said "You can't be that old, we were born the same year!"

I am not going along with Daylight Savings Time this year... It makes no sense so I'm not changing any clocks and I'm not going to recognize it... Period!!!

I might even move to Indiana for the winter...

Just as well it's not a 'Grandfather Clock'... that could shorten the old man's life!

A recently published report holds that on the Monday following the return from DST to Standard Time, there is a measurable and statistically significant decrease in heart attacks (at least in Switzerland?).

The report speculates that the added hour of sleep is the most probable causative factor in the observed result.

Conversely, on the switch to Daylight Savings, an increase in heart attacks begins on the following Monday and persists through about Wednesday.

Earlier reports have indicated a significant increase in pedestrian injuries during the first few days following a switch to DST, since drivers need a couple of days to condition themselves to slow down during the earlier "darkness."

Altogether a dangerous and disturbing situation.

John

Bit of related trivia.

How To Get YOUR E-Mails to the TOP of the LIST

A few years back ... I miss-set the date/year.

I friend commented that after returning after a month off...they found my message on top of 500 plus others.

Frequently I will now intentionally change the computer date. (It is also helpful going backwards when "composing information" and then deleating and defragging.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Reading over the threads...I have now become aware of the "Great Gobblin Wars in the Summer of 08"...the changes are good...long needed.

I am not sure if I was able to post into this thread "below the line" because it was to "Tech" and not "BS" or ... if it was one of the "wicked" clones on the throne during my first nights back.

My log cannot tell.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Ahhh....at the stroke...or near the stroke of Midnight.

One of the "wicked ones" accended "the throne."

Leave them alone
While they're at home
Sunrise will find the evil gone.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

My cousins ex husband told me years ago about Daylight saving time in Canada, and how the rural and city in the same province could be on different times. There used to be double summer time during the war in the UK.

It seems like a mess for travelers.
