Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: gnu Date: 04 Nov 08 - 04:36 AM Rather nipply here in SE New Brunswick, Canada, for the past week. But, we are about to have our second "swing", of which we usually get three or four. Daytime highs will be in the mid teens for the next five days, followed by a drenching rain and then it will turn cool again. This cycle repeats until it finally turns cold. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: GUEST,crazy little woman Date: 31 Oct 08 - 09:54 PM Still as balmy as a day in Hawaii here. We have had over 160 trick-or-treaters, a record. I can't assert that putting out pumpkins and colored lights to propitiate the Weather Demons helped bring about this beautiful weather, but it certainly hasn't hurt. Ya'll should try it next year. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: Big Al Whittle Date: 31 Oct 08 - 08:32 PM there was a nice song about Josephine baker by that geezer who wrote Year of the cat. Forgot his name. Al Stewart! It just came back. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: jacqui.c Date: 31 Oct 08 - 07:17 PM Here in Maine all we've had, so far, is a sharp frost in the mornings. Two mornings running I've had to scrape the windscreen before taking Seamus to the beach. Today was actually quite pleasant. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: GUEST,crazy little woman Date: 31 Oct 08 - 05:33 PM Good grief, I've seen hail, but I've never heard of an accumulation such as that. My sympathy to the people of Ottery St. Mary. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: Cats Date: 31 Oct 08 - 03:42 AM The village of Ottery St Mary, famous for the Tar Barrel Rolling, was cut off on Wednesday night when hail fell to a depth of over 2 feet on top of flash flooding. The hail was so intense that, in places, it drifted and one of the emergency vehicled got stuck in a 6 foot hail drift. Cars were washed away, houses flooded. Less than a mile awy they just had the odd shower! 'The Met Office recorded that between 8pm on Tuesday and 2am on Thursday 57.6mm of rain fell in the Ottery St Mary area. The average for the whole of October is 103.4mm. In places of Ottery St Mary the hail was up to two feet deep, said Mr Grommett. Temperatures were about 2C during the storm, but dropped to freezing at its most intense.' From the Western Morning News. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 29 Oct 08 - 05:36 PM Yup. We got snow last night, here in the Monadnock region. There was almost a whole inch on the ground! It's been spitting snow on and off all day, but not amounting to anything. I do remember being about 9 years old in Greeley, Colorado in about 1968, and trick-or-treating knee-deep in snow! |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: JohnInKansas Date: 29 Oct 08 - 04:55 PM A web headline fairly late yesterday reports a "major blizzard" covering the northeastern US. (Mostly New England states, I think?) There was mention of quite a few homes with power outages. I believe a saw a "40,000 homes without" for one local area. A couple of major Interstate highways closed due to "many accidents." One municipal official commented "We're salting the roads and it isn't even Halloween yet." (I guess he's saying it's unusually early in the year for a storm of this size.) John |

The reason it was so warm on Monday (22C and sunny) was that it was the first day of deer season. |

Very pretty and my little dog rolled in it as though she couldn't contain herself. It is almost all gone now on the level on which I live. Subject: RE: BS: Winter Drawers On: It's Snowing!! From: Mooh Date: 28 Oct 08 - 09:17 AM It's been wet here (Goderich Ontario) for more than a week, and to add insult to injury, there was hail yesterday as I was leaving for a nursing home gig and snow this morning as I was leaving to take the kid to school. None of it stayed on the ground except as water to weigh down the clumps of leaves plugging the storm drains. The sun will likely come out today just as I start work. It figures. Peace, Mooh. |
