Subject: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: 3refs Date: 22 Jul 09 - 10:56 AM A retired US Lt Col Peters has more than hinted that this young man did not just "walk away". I find his comments a little more than disturbing. His interview is on Fox. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/3073144/fox_news_ralph_peters_suggests_taliban_should_kill_us_soldier/ |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Peace Date: 22 Jul 09 - 11:03 AM Maybe that's why he retired as a Lt Col. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Date: 22 Jul 09 - 12:46 PM Boy, he sounds real mad! Now, let me get this straight - this young man made a cool, rational decision to "desert" in the middle of Afghanistan, and to offer his services to the Taliban ... hmmm ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Peace Date: 22 Jul 09 - 12:51 PM Ever read Heller's "Catch 22"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Stringsinger Date: 22 Jul 09 - 02:11 PM The current Administration has built up an enemy posing. The Taliban is the new boogeyman. Actually, they are not as prevalent in Afghanistan as they are in Pakistan, supported by the former Mushariff. Reagan originally made deals with them. The US supported them against the Russians in their attempt to subdue Afghanistan. Does this pattern sound familiar? The Afghan Occupation is a wasteful exercise in futility. It will become Obama's "war" as Vietnam was L.B.J's. There is no constructive outcome to the US incursion in Afghanistan or Pakistan. There is no cohesive workable plan to help the citizens of either of those countries being offered by the Administration. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would participate in this conflict militarily. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: katlaughing Date: 22 Jul 09 - 02:16 PM Funny, the folks who know the young man don't haev any doubts about him: click |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Bill D Date: 22 Jul 09 - 02:39 PM Whether or not that soldier has any problems...(and we don't KNOW that)... that Lt.Col. should have his lips super-glued together. What a stupid way to respond to a bad situation. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Mrrzy Date: 22 Jul 09 - 03:59 PM I wondered, myself... it would be a symptom of sanity. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: 3refs Date: 23 Jul 09 - 08:30 AM I like to think I haven't in the past, but I would never suggest that anyone was a traitor, deserter or collaborator if I didn't know for sure! Once you put a thought like that in the peoples minds, it never really goes away! |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: frogprince Date: 23 Jul 09 - 10:32 AM An odd situation, in that I have a rare degree of sympathy for a Fox news person. It appeared that she was blindsided by his comments, and really tried to distance herself and do some damage control. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Date: 23 Jul 09 - 11:03 AM She was in an unenviable, "no-win" situation - she clearly did want "to distance herself and do some damage control", but if that became obvious to their guest "military analyst", it might well provoke him to say something even worse. I would like to have been a fly on the wall during the next commercial break. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: olddude Date: 23 Jul 09 - 12:46 PM and Fox New actually paid that asshole? yahhhh ... ok ... and he rose to the rank of LT. Col we are in deep crap if guys like him are leading our young men and women I have no idea if the soldier deserted or not but it sure sounds like Rambo there already made up his mind. If he did desert then the law will handle it but those comments ... from someone who once held that rank ... good gosh where is me shovel, gonna dig me a shelter |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Date: 23 Jul 09 - 02:03 PM Of course, his retirement may have come after some very strong "encouragement". In fact, following his example in regard to the circumstances of the Taliban's taking of the soldier, we should feel free to speculate as to the circumstances of Lt Col. Peters' retirement - or was that "firing"?. Who's first? |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Peace Date: 23 Jul 09 - 02:10 PM Gotta love that Pox News. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Ebbie Date: 23 Jul 09 - 02:25 PM Military man, Novelist, Controversial Figure An interesting man- I suspect he would be a bad neighbor to have. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: olddude Date: 23 Jul 09 - 03:57 PM Please don't advise him to move in next to Bobart, Bobster has enough wack job neighbors LOL |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Rapparee Date: 23 Jul 09 - 07:36 PM My respect for Fox News has just reached negative numbers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Jul 09 - 08:03 PM It would appear that on his entire military service Peters as never in any kind of combat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Date: 23 Jul 09 - 08:35 PM Maybe that's why he seems to be looking for a fight ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Amergin Date: 23 Jul 09 - 08:45 PM Maybe he has a book coming out and wanted some notoriety.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: kendall Date: 23 Jul 09 - 08:58 PM I read somewhere or saw on TV that more soldiers have deserted than have been killed in Iraq. They come home on leave and refuse to go back. Remember that old question, What if they had a war and no body came? |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 23 Jul 09 - 10:57 PM I find it scary that the US army would promote such an idiotic arsehole as Lt Col Peters to any position of authority. How many more of his ilk are out there, I wonder? Thank God he is no longer in uniform! As for Fox News, it seems that in Lt Col Peters they have exeeded right wing criteria of facist drivel! It's hard to soar like an eagle when you fly in a flock of turkeys! |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: GUEST,seth in Olympia Date: 25 Jul 09 - 04:44 PM If my five -great grandfather hadn't run away from the wars in Scotland, and my wife's two great hadn't decided that there were other things to do besides being drafted for twenty year hitch in the Czar's army. neither of us would be here today. It's always better to live and have grandchildren than to be ground to dust in the army of the Czar, King, Supreme Leader, President, in my humble opinion. seth (VietNam Era Vet) |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Jul 09 - 05:05 PM Of course in many cases our parents would never have met if hadn't been because they got involved in fighting in some war. Goes both ways. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Peace Date: 25 Jul 09 - 09:35 PM There are many excellent military people in all armed forces--good thinkers, scholars, etc. THIS guy oughta have a principle named after him. |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Date: 25 Jul 09 - 10:13 PM (Good one! I think he does ... ). |
Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 26 Jul 09 - 02:43 PM The Peter Principle wasn't called after this gentleman, but it seems to be pretty appropriate: "In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence." |
