I listen to George Noory and Alex Jones periodically, just to see what the fringe is up to. Several months ago I remeber listening one night and Jones said "pretty soon bullets will be hard to get because the government is buying all they can".

I saw that the other day - I was especially interested in the guy who was apparently under the impression that Wild Bill Clinton had somehow banned the sale of ammo. Somehow...that slipped by me.

Oh, bull. Ask any gun dealer who has been buying bullets starting last October -- it's been gun owners. Ammunition plants are on 24/7 shifts (I know, there's one in Idaho) but the "popular" calibers -- .22s, the various .30s, .45, etc. -- are being purchased and hoarded. I've got three cases on order (.22 long rifle, for the target shooting club -- I don't want or need 15,000 rounds of ammunition sitting around); they'll arrive sometime in December.

Moreover, ammunition availability is spotty -- I can go out and buy .30-30 bullets in one store and not in another, for example.

This is a user-made shortage, the gov'mint didn't do it.

There's a redneck whacko faction that has been passing around fear and trembling stories about the Obama administrations intentions to take away their guns (or similar related unfounded rumors). In my view this is what is behind the inordinate rush on ammo supplies, which has been going on since last September.

It's great when an industry can create their own shortage. We need to ask who is going to profit from these shortages - it's the people who make the bullets and the guns. If I was a sales rep for a gun company I'd try to create as much fear as I could with my customers. Then ask if they want to double up on their orders before we run out of stock. It's pretty slick.

Well, these fear and hate mongers are responsible for yet another death. This time it was a census worker who was hung down in Kentucky. They carved the word "Fed" in his chest.

But the Fed is the Federal Reserve, surely? What's that got to do with pot growing?

On the other hand, the people who are being incited by the anti-Obama people definitely have a thing about the Fed.

I attribute the shortages to people being concerned that Obama will follow in the footsteps of the Bush's and Clinton continuing the erosion of civil rights and civil liberties. There is a prevalent perception that restrictions and outright bans of things like tools, ammunition, and even things which are visually similar to other things (e.g. toys) are forthcoming. Only time will tell if these concerns are legitimate.

For at least 12 months there has been a shortage af many factory loaded cartridges here in the U.S. but I wonder if other countries are having this problem too. Can any of you offer some insight on this.

Bullets by themselves seem to be available for reloading albeit in a somewhat limited supply. But factory ammunition is what I am primarily aware of being in short supply.

The cost of raw materials has driven prices up too over the past few years. Primers, bullets, factory loads, and cases have gotten quite pricey.

"people being concerned that Obama will follow in the footsteps of the Bush's and Clinton continuing the erosion of civil rights and civil liberties" I really doubt if much of it is caused by that, Luthier. Every indication I've picked up says that the demand is fueled (1) by those who percieve a threat to gun ownership rights from this administration which they didn't perceive from the Bush administration, and (2)by those who feel that the lives of white Americans are endangered because Obama was elected. The two groups are by no means mutually exclusive.

I buy them because a) I might go hunting again someday and b) for the P. A. Mosey Memorial Shooting Club and c) I might need them to supply myself and my wife with food if everything really does go to hell.

If any administration were to ban guns or ammunition it would be a stupid, foolish, move that would divide the US more than the Civil War did, because the divide would not be limited geographically.

People who grow pot are not out to shoot up the Federal Reserve which leads to the following conclusion, those who murdered the "Fed" don't know what the "Fed" is which means that
their senseless act of violence was misdirected as it always seems to be.

If Rapaire is right, and it was a narcotics traffic group who did the foul deed, then they are
merely opposed to the US government which makes them traitors to the country.
You could look at it that way. In other words, they were terrorists on the scale of McVeigh.

But people who grow pot have a ready market and don't need to deal with the "Feds" in the way that the moonshiners used to do. The government has not issued "revenuers" to collect taxes on the sale of pot so that argument makes no sense.

Kentucky is known for its right-wing kooks and religious whackos. It was probably the K.K.K. (Kooky Killers for Khrist).

All this tells me that we are so far down one particular path, that no serious change is really possible.

I am reminded of the old joke about the guy who set out to swim the English Channel. He got ¾ of the way across and decided he couldn't make it...so he turned around and headed back.

"Fed" is an oral abbreviation for "Federal Agent." The Unites States Drug Enforcement Administration, along with local police agencies, have taken down meth houses and destroyed marijuana gardens for many years -- I remember it being done in the '60s. To some, anyone working for the US Government (outside of the military) is a "Fed" and probably, in the area where this happened, an agent of the DEA or BATF or the FBI. It was probably done as a "warning" to other Federal employees not to look to closely under the rocks in that area.

Yep...most likely. If this guy was 'on the job', he was no doubt asking questions that folks did NOT want to answer, and they flatly don't trust that his mission was innocent.

We don't call rounds of ammunition "Bullets" in Britain, we call them Cartridges, reserving the word "bullet" for the actual projectile. In fact, the complete package, viz.case, primer, propellant and projectile, would be known as a "round" in Military circles ie "The magazine capacity of the Bren gun is 30 rounds of .303 British",whilst a Civilian deer-hunter would be more likely to ask for "a box of .308 Win cartridges ,please ".
I have used a number of different shotguns over the years, and have always bought / used "Shotgun Cartridges", never "Shotgun Shells",as pleasantly alliterative as that expression may be !And always in "Bore", not "Guage---I always used "12-Bore cartridges" in my Canadian NAACO "Mallard" model hammer-action ejector, and "20-Bore cartridges " in my Mossberg Pump-action "Varichoke".
            So there !!

When the crunch does come you can buy yourself a blunderbuss. Shoots with just a bit of black powder which in a pinch can be homemade, and for the projectile, just load it up with anything near at hand.
