Really not funny, I suppose. Even though I despise the McDonald corporation for what it has done to human nutrition and the environment (rain forest slash and burn), I feel bad for that small handful of people who just lost their jobs.

Tam, they didn't lose their jobs. Read the article Sinsull posted! The franchise owner "plans to reopen the stores under a new brand name, Metro, using locally sourced materials and produce and retaining the franchise's current 90-strong staff."

who will stopp , sorry folks this the IMF fault .
The Index is too high and no firm can live with that and IMF
said tat they are not gonna lower the Index

Unfortunately, the IMF cares about money, not people, imo.

The end result of 'The Golden Arches' leaving will be better for Iceland in that it will draw on produce available IN Iceland and thus give earnings to your own people and not some ranchers in other countries.

I wouldn't wish a Big Mac on my worst enemy.
MacDonald's franchises in Iceland are required to buy all their supplies from Germany making their prices outrageously high. The franchise owner is the one who has been hurt the most - those franchises cost a small fortune. He is re-opening them. Apparently, there is a market for fast food just not over-priced fast food.
I was somewhat amused that amid Iceland's really serious financial troubles and their long term repercussions, someone thought the loss of a Big Mac was worth noting.
skarpi, I apologize. In no way did I mean to make light of Iceland's problems.
And I promise you that at the next Getaway I will provide a sack of Big Macs for the Icelandic contingent along with a larger sack of Alka Seltzer (which by the way is useful in curing urinary tract infections). Slow day at work. I am full of useless information.

Of course, the Brevinnin would have to be served on ice, not neat... on real Iceland ice from a glacier in Iceland. He could write it into the fine print in the franchise contract.

Of course, due to the cost of shipping, it would be water to be re-frozen after it was delivered. And I have a faucet and there are a lot of evian yuppies around.

We all feel for Skarpi. Iceland was hit very hard and it's gonna take time, but it will come around.
