Subject: ADD???: Klementine (8) From: Wolfgang Date: 05 Aug 99 - 08:47 AM buried in another thread I have applied the English-German translation to one of Jeri's posts and immediately applied the German-English for a retranslation to give a disastrous result. Here I ran the same procedure using Digitrads words to the first verse and chorus of a well known song: KLEMENTINE
Digging in a cave in a Canyon,
OH my favourite, OH my favourite I guess you get similar results with whatever you put in. I'll refrain from providing similar examples though it is tempting to do it English-French-English or do redo it English-German-English more than one time in succession to find out after how many runs the result is completely ununderstanable. Subject: RE: Klementine From: campfire Date: 05 Aug 99 - 11:43 AM In a language class I tok in college, the instructor talked of a translating program. They put in the phrase:"The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak". It was translated into Russian and then back into English by the computer program. End result: "The vodka is fine but the meat is spoiled" Possibly an anecdote to get us to study harder.... campfire |

Subject: RE: Klementine From: Allan C. Date: 05 Aug 99 - 04:47 PM Yeah, I tried translating a couple of the threads into Portuguese. Sometimes I could almost understand some of it. The neat thing is that nom de plume's like, Seed get translated as well. I can't wait to see what happens to The One and Only Dai and Rick Fielding. |
