Oh memories!!!   Years back I used to ring church bells.... I was driving to the parish church to ring for the funeral service of a very eminent person. I arrived at the church just at the same time as the coffin was being taken from the back of the hearse...I couldn't understand why everyone suddenly turned and looked at me. OOps... I had the windows down and was singing to this song at the top of my voice!

Oh brilliant! - as far as I can remember both the 1971 original (when I was a student) and the 1985 airing had completely passed me by, so I think this is the first time I've heard it!

ahh.. family holidays in a caravan park at Rockley Sands, Poole - Dorset..

Year in year out, we always had the same caravan just under the railway embankment
right by the big pond with a sewer outlet running into it.

First thing in the morning, rain or drizzle,
jumping out of the caravan door straight into the cold murky water,
me and my little sister up to our necks in seaweed and fresh turds...

That summer when I was about 10 or 11,
evenings in the holiday camp boozer
singing and dancind in wild abandon with our old nan
to such a notorious and depraved banned pop song.....

This is one of the few things Google gets stumped with cos as far as I can tell there is nothing on the web detailing the lyrics. Bummer!!! (or should I say Bare Bummer? Lol couldn't resist)

My Grandfather who was a Russian Orthodox Priest had died around 1962 and it was not until 1971/72 that a Russian Orthodox bishop could come from the USA to perform a solemn blessing at the graveside. All the family were expected to be there and I took my then girlfriend, now my wife, along. We were at the graveside, all holding candles as the bishop circled the grave waving his incense burner as the congregation sang the solemn rites in old Slavonic.

Mrs G to be was getting worried as the candle wax dripped down her hand and the incense smoke got in her eyes and nose. To make matters worse a wedding was going on at the church and just then the bride and groom came out for photographs. The look of horror on the brides face was a picture in itself matched only by my girlfriends look as she realised she knew the happy couple! Just then the announcement came over the outdoor speakers in the adjacent Miners Welfare Club that the garden party was about to start.

And what song did they open the fete with? Yep, you've guessed it, Leap up and down and wave your knickers in the air. I don't know how we managed to keep out faces strait but it must have worked some magic because a couple of years later she agreed to marry me. And next weekend is our Ruby anniversary :-)
