Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: VirginiaTam Date: 11 Aug 10 - 04:54 PM Thyroid issues can cause TIAs mini strokes that can cause weakness, confusion and significant memory loss. Hope the docs monitor her very carefully and that she is diligent in reporting how she feels once treatment has settled. |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: melodeonboy Date: 11 Aug 10 - 10:06 AM I second Wee Jock's comments. My best wishes to her. |

Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: naughtyforty Date: 11 Aug 10 - 04:58 AM I too was shocked to hear this news as I also saw her looking quite fit and well earlier in the week. Hope she recovers fully soon and we will see her out and about in Kent before too long. |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Tim Edwards Date: 11 Aug 10 - 04:44 AM I've only just heard this news and was shocked as I saw Marian apparently fit and well the day before she was taken ill and, as always , it had been a pleasure to meet and listen to her during the week. I do hope she recovers soon and if anyone is seeing her please pass on my best wishes. Tim |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 11 Aug 10 - 04:30 AM Irene - Thanks for keeping in touch - I was at Frimley Park last night looking after another indisposed lady. Will relay messages on to the Gortons who I've asked to look at this thread. (Sorry about yesterday's post: I haven't been well, you know?) Marian - get well soon from Flrby and myself. Take it easy - I had to following my op and I'm still dashing round everywhere! See you at Tenterden in October. PS Gallagher sends his love, and can he have a night out with the chipmunk?? :0) |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 11 Aug 10 - 03:46 AM "they have identified a problem with her thyroid gland, which was causing the unsteadiness," Gosh, I imagine those close to her are glad to know it wasn't a stroke, they can be quite harmful and require lengthy rehab. Hopefully a thyroid problem can be treated fairly simply with drugs and she'll be back to strength shortly. Hopefully I'll get to hear Marion sing sometime too, I've heard lots of praise for her! |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Mary Humphreys Date: 11 Aug 10 - 03:33 AM Have just been told about Marian's hospitalisation. So sorry to learn of it. My love and best wishes for a quick recovery. Hope to see her at Whitby yet - there is still time! love Mary |

Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Surreysinger Date: 10 Aug 10 - 06:41 PM Ralphie - of course I will add good wishes from both of you ... and yes, that makes five I know of in the last month ... have they put something in the water, do you reckon?? Marian seems to have beaten your stay there recently ... it'll be a week on Thursday. I'll bet she's fed up with that hospital gown by now! |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 10 Aug 10 - 02:52 PM Hi Irene. Please add our good wishes to your list. Exeter hospital is seeing far too many folkies recently! Love from me and Sheena xxx |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Surreysinger Date: 10 Aug 10 - 02:28 PM I am keeping my fingers crossed. I've never been to Whitby without Marian, and I'd rather not start now ... one step at a time, I suppose. :-) |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Herga Kitty Date: 10 Aug 10 - 02:17 PM Irene - I think that not stroke but thyroid sounds like good news...? Again, all best wishes and thanks for updating us on progress! Kitty |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Surreysinger Date: 10 Aug 10 - 02:14 PM Thanks for the messages everyone - I'll print them out and pass them on to Marian at the end of the week. In the meantime, Geoff, Marian's husband, has just told me that the hospital have now said (after another battery of tests) that it wasn't a stroke after all. However, they have identified a problem with her thyroid gland, which was causing the unsteadiness, and are conducting yet more tests. In the meantime Marian will be in the hospital in Exeter until at least the weekend. More info as I have it. |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: VirginiaTam Date: 10 Aug 10 - 01:27 PM oh my... I have only heard Marian a few times during Rochester Sweeps sing a rounds. Always riveted by her material and presentation. Sending wishes for speedy and full recovery from both Chris and myself. |

Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: GUEST,The Barden of England sans cookie Date: 10 Aug 10 - 12:09 PM I heard the news from Barry Lister on Saturday at The Dartmoor Festival, and to say I was shaken would be an understatement. I have been unable to get online until now - the first time my mobile broadband has managed to find a signal - and just want to wish Marian both mine and Jan's best wishes for a a speedy and full recovery. John Barden |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Surreysinger Date: 10 Aug 10 - 10:29 AM Sue - best place to find Marian at Sidmouth on most days is the lunchtime session at the Volunteer (and quite often the evening one as well) - it's where she spends most of her time. And I certainly will pass on all these extra good wishes when I finally get the chance. |
Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: Girl Friday Date: 10 Aug 10 - 10:05 AM Both of us are very sorry to hear about Marian's stroke. We didn't get around as many places in Sidmouth as we'd have liked, and didn't realise that she was there. Please pass on T D L's good wishes for a good recovery. Sue and Trevor from Orpington |

Subject: RE: News on Marian Button From: GUEST,OldNicKilby Date: 10 Aug 10 - 08:09 AM Well lets try again!!!Poor old Marion ,lovely lovely lady and what a singer. Whenever she comes to stay with us its like having a Walking I Pod in the house, she never stops singing superbly."Oh dont you know this song? Everybody sings it" when she has just knocked you sideways with a superb ballad that you have never heard before. On a par with Brian Dawson as a National Treasure. We are sorry that you wont be with us for Jacky's Birthday Party this weekend we'll save you a bit of cake. Lets hope that you will be well enough to come in November for the Dungworth visit with Mo and co. Lots of love from Jacky and Nic |
Subject: RE: Marian Button is unwell From: Surreysinger Date: 10 Aug 10 - 07:47 AM George - I had already posted up about this on this thread here last night :-) No more news as yet, although I understand from Geoff that Marian had a visit in hospital from members of the Claque who,of course, live locally on Monday afternoon. Threads combined. |
Subject: Marian Button is unwell From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 10 Aug 10 - 06:57 AM Marian Button was taken ill at Sidmouth FolkWeek last Thursday with a suspected stroke which has now been confirmed, but not thought too severe. She has some weakness on the left side, mixing up of speech, and is understandably very confused. Husband Geoff tells me (on Sunday) that she is due for more scans this week at Exeter, and now has her luggage which we at The Volunteer took care of. I daresay Surreysinger will add any more updates. |

Subject: News on Marian Button From: Surreysinger Date: 09 Aug 10 - 07:30 PM I've had one or two enquiries from various sources about the health of Marian Button, traditional singer from Kent. As some of you are obviously aware, Marian suffered what has now been diagnosed as a stroke on Thursday while at Sidmouth Folk Festival. This is just to let you know that she is still in hospital at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital Wonford at the moment, and was due to have a scan of some sort either today or tomorrow. There is no news as yet about her returning to the Kent neck of the woods (either hospital or home). As soon as anything further in the way of news occurs, I'll post details here (and on Facebook for those who are friends of mine on there). As far as I understand it from my contact with them, the hospital in question does not have bedside phones, and they cannot divulge information to any except next of kin, so it is not worthwhile ringing them at the moment. |
