Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 14 Oct 10 - 05:47 PM I still need the song titles and song credits (preferably with copyright dates where applicable) for several of the performances at the Getaway concerts. I like to include these as captions on the videos, in case people share the videos without the accompanying blurbs. These include: - title of Micca's whaling song and copyright date - title of Vince Wilding's ballad (which I think is "trad") - Title of David Ingerson's Irish song - title of David Diamond's Do-Re-Mi parody (and did you write the parody lyrics, Dave?) - author/source of Helen's Ant & Flea (Friendship Loyalty Beyond Death), if known - title and author of Wendy G's fractured fairytale - title and credits for the song Jed Marum did with Glyn Collingson And if you were in the concert and I haven't mentioned your song yet, please send me the title, songwriter credit, etc. - even if I just share the file with you and no one else. Thanks |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 10 - 06:36 PM Dave Diamond did write the parody himself...if he doesn't pop in, I'll see if I can get it..(if he calls it anything else) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 14 Oct 10 - 07:01 PM Thanks, KT. I'm hoping that next year we'll have some sort of release & credits form for all concert participants to sign when they sign up (or at the concerts). Performers could deny permission to share (or keep) the recording, permit limited sharing (e.g., only by making it available to the performers themselves, who could then distribute it), or allow sharing via YouTube, etc. And they would also write down their names, song titles & credits, etc. That would save a lot of hassle after the fact. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 10 - 07:14 PM Oh...I just remembered, Dave printed a few 'songbooks' a few years ago, and I found my copy...he called the song "Dough-Re-Mi" |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 14 Oct 10 - 07:28 PM Thanks, Bill. (I take it ToneDeaf Dave wrote the parody lyrics, right?) Here's the video of the French Horn and Uke duet: Fred Sailer and Dottie Hurley: Mozart Horn Concerto No. 3, Second Movement I think the sound came out pretty good on that one. That's partly because the French horn is a pretty loud instrument and the mic picked up a its sound directly. Again, it illustrates how the variations in sound quality are not all due to the recording equipment and its quirks. There are many factors. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 10 - 08:07 PM Yes...ToneDeaf Dave=David Diamond that I noted 4 posts above... he has a bunch of 'em... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 14 Oct 10 - 08:21 PM Yeah, I know Tone Deaf is a real Diamond. ; D Just wanted to be sure it's his own parody. (I think the static drowned out that part of his introduction.) BTW, here's Caryl Weiss's "An Angel's Wings" - with Wendy Grossman on backup guitar |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Celtaddict Date: 15 Oct 10 - 01:45 PM Genie, many thanks again for doing all this!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 17 Oct 10 - 08:38 PM I'm glad the videos are helping preserve Getaway memories and share them with people couldn't be there. (Bait for next year, maybe?) Colleen Cleveland has given the OK to make the videos of her two songs public. Here's the first one: I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier Not sure about the copyright on that one, but since it was a WWI song ca. 1915 it's probably in PD by now. Colleen says her other song, "Yellow Papers," was written by her grandmother Sara Cleveland. I'll have that one up pretty soon. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Janie Date: 17 Oct 10 - 09:13 PM Another thank you, Genie. And another thank you to all of you who give permission to share your voices and your music! |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: wendyg Date: 18 Oct 10 - 08:38 AM Genie: I don't know how to email you (that is, I don't know how to find your email address!) and I hate PMs, so this message gives my permission, though you should also check with Bill Steele, the author of Griselda's Waltz, the fractured fairy tale you have in mind. wg If you email me, I'll supply his email address. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 18 Oct 10 - 01:49 PM Wendy, if you'll check with Bill Steele for permission to post your performance of "Grizelda's Waltz," you can let me know here if he says OK. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 19 Oct 10 - 07:47 PM I've located the source of the static and other glitches in my MacBook's recording and, with my built-in mic and camera and laptop fan having been replaced, my recording quality should be back to normal (which has been quite good in most settings - if I adjust the input settings right). The camera didn't need replacing but I think it's all one unit. But the fan and the mic were misbehaving (See the thread about problems with iMovie -- which didn't turn out to be the source of the problems.) Anyway next time I record live music I should get much better sound than I did earlier this fall. Genie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 20 Oct 10 - 04:09 AM Here's the "fractured fairytale" that Wendy Grossman shared with us at the Saturday night Getaway concert: "Grizelda's Waltz (Bob Steele), played and sung by Wendy Grossman |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-videos shared From: Genie Date: 20 Oct 10 - 12:00 PM Here's Alaska Mike's wonderful song about his older brother Pete: "Pete" - Alaska Mike at 2010 Getaway concert There's some static in places due to my erratic built-in mic (which has been replaced now), but you can hear the story well, and Mike's voice is strong and resonant enough to some through. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 concert videos From: Genie Date: 03 Nov 10 - 06:42 PM The video of Lucy Ann Goldberg, with Charlie Bean and David Scheim, doing "Blue Mountain" is now up at YouTube, with an unlisted URL. As soon as I get permission from those 3, I'll post the link here or change it to a listed (searchable) URL. Till then, contact Lucy if you would like the link. Jed Marum's "White Cockade," backed by his "band," Glyn Collinson (sp?) will be up shortly. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: GUEST,Sandy LaPrelle and family Date: 04 Nov 10 - 01:24 PM Hi Genie - sorry, I can't figure out how to email you, so this ends up as a post - Elizabeth and I don't mind having our music posted online, so go for it, and thanks for asking! Sandy & Elizabeth LaPrelle |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 04 Nov 10 - 02:40 PM Thanks, Sandy and Elizabeth. One thing that will speed up the process is if everyone will tell me - preferably by posting in this thread - the titles and authorship credits for the songs/poems/stories they did in the concert, including publication/copyright dates, if known. Also let me know if you want to be identified some other way than by your name (e.g., if you want to be "LeadFingers" or "M.Mario" instead of your actual name). And a reminder: if you performed in the first half of the Saturday night concert, your video came out as a silent movie. I've since replaced the neurotic built-in mic on my laptop, so now it's back to doing normal sound - in some cases really good (though it depends a lot on things like how close your instrument was to the mic, in the case of guitars). But I did lose out on the sound for those first 10-15 performers. Let me know if you'd like to see your "silent movies" anyway. (Overdubbing is not that hard if you have the right software, such as iMovie, by the way.) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: GUEST Date: 04 Nov 10 - 03:18 PM Hi again Genie, Elizabeth and I sang in the Sunday night concert. The song is "How Should I Your True Love Know", which we learned from the singing of Maddy Prior and June Tabor. The cut is on their Silly Sisters' second album "No More To The Dance". There is a good mudcat discussion of the song at this URL (sorry, not adept at clickys) http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=37814&messages=19 Thanks! Sandy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 audio-video-Glass half full From: Genie Date: 04 Nov 10 - 04:11 PM Thanks, Sandy. Do you know the source of the tune itself - or was it that "anon." lady or the "trad." guy? |
