Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Radio Toor-i-li-ay by Wolfe Tones From: ral@hotmail.com Date: 28 Aug 99 - 05:35 PM Hi, No actually this is by Wolfe Tones and I think they originated with it. It starts off like this: They don't play our songs on the radio They say they're too political Who controls the mind when the minds controlled Then they begin to sing real fast and I can't understand them whatsoever. Thanks |
Subject: Can you help name this song? From: GUEST,Ed Date: 06 Feb 04 - 01:18 AM Hello, I am sorry for this, I am sure that everyone gets sick of these constant requests... and it's probably already posted many times before but I can't find it! I only have a few scattered lyrics in my head and I was wondering if anyone can tell me the title and/or the artist/composer? "they won't play our songs on radio/they say they're too political..." come on you sisters and you brothers.... I know it's not much to go on... there is mention of a "soldier's song" but obviously when I use that term to search I get thousands upon thousands of threads for everything except the song I am looking for!! Thank you in advance for any help/advice. Regards, ED |

Subject: RE: Can you help name this song? From: Bo Vandenberg Date: 06 Feb 04 - 01:33 AM And I will give it one of three blessings, bestowed at its birth. "It will dance in your memory like an apple blossum on the wind... gracefully in the background where ever you look. Awhirl at the periphery of your mind's eye, just beyond the reach of your outstretched hands." At least until you can come up with more lyrics. Sigurd |
Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Can you help? Won't play our songs? From: NoMattch Date: 06 Feb 04 - 03:52 PM The song is "Radio Toralay" and the artist is the Wolfe Tones. I'm pretty sure that the lyrics are out there...probably on the Wolfe Tone's site. Good song! It was written at least 12 years ago and it still holds water. Aer Lingus banned their songs about 2 - 3 years ago. |

Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Can you help? Won't play our songs? From: NoMattch Date: 06 Feb 04 - 04:20 PM The lyrics are harder to find than I imagined. First of all I had the spelling wrong...it's "Radio Toor-I-Li-Ay" and the album is "Sing Out for Ireland." Hope you can find it... |
Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Can you help? Won't play our songs? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 06 Feb 04 - 04:40 PM There's a snatch of it on a number of sites such as this But the lyrics are harder to find - I see that a few years back Big Mick said he'd try to dig them out and post them here, but I don't think he ever did. |
Subject: RE: Lyr req: Can you help? Won't play our songs? From: GUEST,Ed Date: 07 Feb 04 - 01:01 PM Wow.... very impressive, that is the song. Thank you so much for your help. If I manage to find lyrics, I'll be sure to post them. Thanks, ED |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Radio Toor-i-li-ay by Wolfe Tones From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Apr 07 - 05:15 PM There is a song called THEY DON'T PLAY OUR SONGS ON THE RADIO on their album "Rebels & Heroes", 2004. |
Subject: Lyr Add: THEY DON'T PLAY OUR SONGS ON THE RADIO From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Jan 12 - 05:38 PM Here's my transcription. Doubtful words are in {braces}. "Toor-i-oor-i" etc. is chanted in the background at many points throughout the song. THEY DON'T PLAY OUR SONGS ON THE RADIO As sung by The Wolfe Tones on "Rebels and Heroes" (2004) [The recording starts with some random radio sounds] You don't play our songs on the radio You say they're too political Who controls the mind where the mind's controlled {Lot of} music on the radio For those empty minds, those empty heads Got song of sex and drugs instead Don't tell them how it really is Must MI5 look after you Control your thoughts with information To your hearts and minds To keep you all from Thinkin', thinkin', thinkin', thinkin' # So come all ye witches and you wizards Conjurers and tricksters Change our past into a future grand So come all ye {combi} men and {seaneens} Lackeys and {...} Sing, sing for me A rousing rebel song And all the kids in school will sing along. # So this is your democracy Be silent or agree with me We revise our past; we change our past To suit this time and moment For things weren't really all that bad And Ireland's past was not that sad Think otherwise, you must be mad Did Queen Victoria give two thousand pounds To the dogs and cats of {...} Ah but she did you know, to save them all from Starvin', starvin', starvin', starvin' [Repeat from # to #.] [Recording ends with more random radio sounds] |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Radio Toor-i-li-ay by Wolfe Tones From: GUEST,Denton Wray Date: 30 Jul 15 - 03:30 AM So it looks like I'm a few years late here. Those lyrics are mostly correct. I just wanted to update it with what i think those unsure words are. You don't play our songs on the radio You say they're too political Who controls the mind where the mind's controlled For the music on the airways For those empty minds, those empty heads Play songs of sex and drugs instead Don't tell them how it really is Must MI5 look after you Control your thoughts with information To your hearts and minds To keep you all from Thinkin', thinkin', thinkin', thinkin' # So come all ye witches and you wizards Conjurers and tricksters Change our past into a future grand So come all ye gombeen men and seàníns Lackeys and west britons Sing, sing for me A rousing rebel song And all the kids in school will sing along. # So this is your democracy Be silent or agree with me We revise our past; we change our past To suit this time and moment For things weren't really all that bad And Ireland's past was not that sad Think otherwise, you must be mad Did Queen Victoria give two thousand pounds To the dogs and cats of Ireland during the famine Ah but she did you know, to save them all from Starvin', starvin', starvin', starvin' # |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Radio Toor-i-li-ay by Wolfe Tones From: GUEST,Denton Wray Date: 30 Jul 15 - 03:38 AM Edit: I forgot to change a word. I do believe its "Change our past into a future brand" rather than "grand". |
