Subject: wolfe tones song From: mike putt Date: 22 Oct 00 - 06:27 PM Hi I am looking for Lyr/Chords to this Wolfe Tones song I dont even have the title. All I know is that its about a Mayo man who travels the world and becomes a hero in Argentina, and his name is Brown. Also are there any good Wolfe Tones sites out there as I done a search and all I came up with is the official Wolfe Tones site, which is fairly good but does'nt cover enough of their material. Many thanks in advance |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: wolfe tones song From: paddymac Date: 22 Oct 00 - 08:47 PM I remember the song, and have it on one of their tapes or CDs. I think it might be called "Captain William Brown", but don't hold me to that. I have Vols. 1 & 2 of their songbooks, and it's not in either of those. I don't know if there is a Vol. 3, or more. If nobody else posts it in the next day or so, I'll transcribe the lyrics for you. |

From a county Mayo town came a man of great renown
Now Admiral William Brown you're a man of courage shown
He had heard of Irish hands in noble gallant bands
We remember William Brown and his land of great renown
The old colonial days and cruel English ways
In the Argentine he died Father Fahey by his side Very interesting history story...I also found some links where you can read up on him a bit, if you're interested.... Amergin |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: wolfe tones song From: Mrrzy Date: 23 Oct 00 - 12:38 PM Me too, I have William Browns all up and down my family tree! This is very interesting, and I have a lot of Wolfe Tones but not this one. The Clancy Brothers sing of the death of Bill Brown the poacher, not at all the same thing... Amergin, which album is this on? |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: wolfe tones song From: GUEST,Tony Date: 23 Oct 00 - 01:01 PM I recently heard a song by the wolfe tones that I really liked... "Janey Mac I'm nearly forty... and then something about being jaded, etc". If anyone has the lyric and chord structure, it would be much appreciated. Not much into this type of music, but this was an exceptional tune. Thanks |
