As Stilly said on the sign-up thread

To quote Harry Potter,

Mischief Accomplished!

The cats are among the pigeons. Go forth and torment each other.

And remember what you never heard my friend Dean say: "Nothing says christmas like excess!"

Well, Ms MGAS.

I am going to have SO much fun here. I've been looking out all the good stuff for such a deserving soul and I think that I might even have found an elf to make sure that the parcel reaches you on time.

HO HO HO, what a good time will be had.

A short note for now (maybe a demi quaver?) to let you know, my dear, that Someone Out Here in Santaland has your name on the only list that counts.
Now to ensure that none of the elves or reindeer involved have any cat allergies (we none of us wish to re-visit the dreadful sneezing, wheezing and puffy-eyeball incidents from previous years, so thank you for alerting me) and then we'll start selecting suitable items for the delivery.

Your Santa

The assignment has been received and the cupboards are being checked for goodies as we speak.....I'm sure there may be some leftover treasures from Christmases past that could be put to good use! To say nothing of the medicinal bottle of brandy that I know is in there somewhere.......

-and that as well-

so you better watch out!!!!

My dear Ms MGAS. Nice to hear from you. Don't worry about the pennies. I have it on very good advice that you are always good and do deserve a super Secret Santa giftee this year.

Are you going to give me any hints this year or do I have to rely on those provided in past years? Enquiring minds need to know, as do the elves who will be busy finding delectable dainties for your delight.

Though the Santa situation became quite acute,
For the shortened duration I drew Sarah The Flute.
If you're good, I will bless you with choices astute
So you could lay your flute down and play with your loot.
If you give me some hints, I'll come in from the cold
And like princess or prince, bestow treasures untold.
So post up your preference ere I hitch up Prancer
And I'll use it for reference, your prayers for to answer.

Well Jennie G, I do hope the summer is off to a fine start, the North Pole is a little chillier than usual this year but the elves are busying themselves and keeping warm running errands for me, whilst I busy myself with planning, making and wrapping. I have it on good authority that apart from a few minor misdemeanors, you have been good and therefore I am happy to tell you that a fine festive treat will be on its way to you very soon.
Love, Santa x

Santa Dear, I've managed a few moments away from my chores to copy & paste last years hints into this years thread. It doesn't seem to have changed much, but my life doesn't seem to be boring (more like crazy) so I guess I'm OK. Oh, and I will keep trying to be good *grin* But I don't turn away lumps of coal either!!!

What? you don't care for some of our recycled leftovers? tsk tsk......you young folk today, I dunno......when I was a wee thing it was different......(heaves a big sigh)we shall have to look right at the back of the cupboard to see what's there, won't we.

And pity about the medicinal brandy, because someone else has drunk it all. I am hoping there's a small amount of gin left......

Thinking great thoughts about pressies, but no real ideas yet. I saw your hint list, but it is singularly lacking in useful hints. Ah well, I'm sure I have a fruitcake around here somewhere...

The clues are a help to your Santa with banter.
With reindeer at the gallop and Santa at decanter,
I'll be coming some winter's date snowy and shivery
With a sleighload of presents all wrapped for delivery.
My elves must check out all your goodness, as rumoured.
When they have reported and I have been humoured,
If your past is not sordid, and when gifts are all sorted,
You'll have all the bright trinkets your Santa's afforded,
And when you have opened your treasures at last,
I hope to have outdone all your Santas past.

Dear Santa,
I have been a very good girl this year. i have looked after my hens and my pussy cats, including one who wanted to move in but ended up in my potting shed. I have looked after my garden and have got everything ready for my bees next year. i have fed the wild birds especially the Christmas Robins and I hope they will let santa know that i have been looking out for them. i promise to leave carrots out for rudolph and some very nice sloe gin for santa. i hope rudolph doesn't get himself all tied up in the christmas lights this yaer. he looked very good and very pretty but it did make a bit of a mess on the floor when all the decorations came off the tree last year. thank you for thinking of me again this year
Lots of love and kisses

You're a bit quiet aren't you? No clues. Few posts. Never you mind. I've got together a present for you and it's left the Far-reaches-of-the-Earth bound for your place.
I know you are a fiddler on the roof after your day's work. I like that image a lot and the roof is a good place to keep a look-out. Peace, Happiness and all the rest of the good things be yours, along with my present to you.

There has been no word from my Santa. I wish he or she would come on-thread and play. I look at this stuff as part of the present. So, Santa, please let me know you're out there.

Furthermore, my house brownies, Hash & McGhee, who look after my townshack report to me me there's been no sign of anyone elfin inquiring around after me. They keep me up on what's going on among the local wee folk and they've figured in my Christmas Chronicles the last few years.

So far, there's nothing to chronicle. Dear Santa, will you or one of your staff please get in touch. Things have been entirely too quiet.

Never you fear, my impatient friend, your Santa's already hard at work planning the perfect punnishment for the bad boy my elves are sure you've been, Christmas Chronicles notwithstanding. Are you really as full of mischief as they report, or are they off the mark as usual? It's hard to get good elves these days, and I'm never quite sure about their tales...

If it's any consolation, Santa hasn't heard from Santa's Santa either. Santa is most distraught. Someone else's elves may be even less reliable than Santa's own. Oh, dear! Must run -- I hear a dust-up in the workshop...which is what happens when Mrs. Santa forgets to use the decaffeinated cocoa in the hot chocolate. Oh dear. I do hope your gift hasn't gotten smashed in the melee. But never fear, I'll find you something.

Dear Santa,

Glad to hear from you and I hope you hear from your own Santa soon. I hope you're not squirrely to the point that you'll be getting nutting for Christmas. And I hope you can sing me some Christmas carols as well as, say, Squirrely Collins (or at least Alvin & The Chipmunks). But now that you're out and about, we can swap acorny joke or two or maybe some great Ochs songs. Just be careful crossing the street, as I still want you there for the holidays.

As for missed behavior, due to the fact that I'm still rehabbing from burn injuries, I can only misbehave at half speed, which is probably the only reason you were able to find out about anything I managed to do. As for what I can get away with, just ask anyone I was at Getaway with.I'm still up to whatever old tricks I'm still up to, and the old techniques are still coming back to me. For a while, I was pretty much well-behaved by default (That is to say, my own fault. I'm no saint, not even Andreus).

So keep in touch, and I'll take the fact that you haven't heard from your Santa yet as a clue of sorts. Until then, have your wee folk talk with my wee folk (part of the Wee Folk Process). Meanwhile, mail early, squirrely and often. I'll be waiting.

'Til then is now,
Severn

Squirreling pressies away for you, Severn.

You do understand, I trust, that squirrels don't actually remember the places they've squirreled away their nuts? They are simply good at knowing where a squirrel is likely to have hidden a nut, and clever enough to look there when they are feeling peckish.

So this means you could be getting an old nut for Christmas. Or maybe it means that you are an old nut ... or that I am, I'm not quite sure which.

Oh, pardon me, but I must dash ... time to chitter at an odd pesky bird or two who are troubling my tree. Cheerio!

I'm being as good as I can be
But I've had a tough week at work you see
Fright Nite in my library yesterday
Has left the place in disarray
We chased the zombies around the school
And everyone thought Chavula (aka Dracula but a Chav) was cool
Despite being half drowned in his lair
Bobbing for apples if you dare
Then the yucky spider's nest beneath
Put your hand in the muck to find dragons teeth
For the luminous potion, so it is said
The only thing to make a zombie dead
Then stay up all night with ghostly tales
In the gothic library...but what are those wails
Only an Eviltron stuck to the wall
With random cries to scare us all
So now with all the zombies killed
I can concentrate on christmas and be thrilled

....we had a good time but i am very tired!

Now then, earrings. Do you like outrageously dangly ones, comical ones or do you prefer them to be just a little bit more refined? I note your interest in science fiction and think that I have just the books for you. I enjoyed them and hope that you will.

Where zombies stalk and a spirit wails
But now's the time we must start talking
Of Yuletide spirit and your Christmas stalking
Get rid of those library blues
From underpay and overdues
That haunt you in your "Reading Gaol"
And wear you out from your week's travail.
Sit back and let your mind succumb
To thoughts of presents yet to come
Of treasures great in their abundance
While hoping there is no redundance.
Your gifts have all been found, in fact,
Although they had to be repacked.
I hope their eventual host'll
Forgive delay from matters postal
But now they're set to go and I'm
Sure they'll arrive by Christmas time.
Ere Christmas Morn there will be there a

Just checking in to see how you are behaving, and the reports I have so far are encouraging. You have been kind to animals and small children, and are helping little old ladies to cross the road, all of which is good. But reports about a break-in at a chocolate shop, in which eye-witnesses reported a person running away who looked somewhat like your good self....not so sure about that. Before the sleigh is loaded do you have anything to say in your defence? Perhaps someone else was the guilty party, and you were trying to catch them before any more mischief was perpetrated?

Because, you know, we wouldn't want to see the sleigh drive off and then notice one forlorn package left behind in the snow........that would be very sad.......

*HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF*
The elves have done it again! Every year I worry about whether they'll get the sleigh packed in time, and most years they manage it in the nick (get it? Nick!) of time.

This year the Down Under Express has pulled out of the North Pole in good time, I hope!
Expect it when you see it, but a package is winging its way to you right now!

Ho ho ho!

Down in yond forest free
One evening you could see
A squirrely Santa digging
Underneath the Christmas tree, and singing...

"Oh, I've got a lovely bunch of ho-ho-nuts.
There they are all lying in a heap.
Big ones, small ones, done in paper and string.
Give 'em away, no need to delay," so did that squirrel sing.

"Oi! I've got a lovely bunch of ho-ho-nuts.
I've dug 'em up from all around the woods.
Wrap 'em, tag 'em, seal 'em up in a crate
Then ship the lot to Severn's cot, for Santa can't be late!"

...

My goodness, but squirrels are daft!

Allo. I'm one of Santa's elves and I look like being well overworked this year. Not one, not two, not three, but four packages to deliver in time for you lot to pull 'em out from under that tree on Christmas morning. I tell yer - that Santa gets all the credit but who do you think does all the work? Yours truly of course.

And do I get to enjoy a mince pie and a glass of sherry? Not on your nelly mate. I have to stay off the stuff to watch me figure and Rudolph's the only one allowed to have a red nose this time of year.

I can tell yer - I am well looking forward to Boxing Day when I can put me feet up and 'ave a nice glass of plonk, although I think that there might still be stuff to deliver after that. Ah well, life's a wotsit, ain't it?

G'day my little chickadee!

Looking at the weather I am hoping that the number one elf makes it through. It's a determined little bugger so I reckon there's a good chance, especially if there's a nice reward at the end of its journey. anyway, all that nasty white stuff might have cleared by the time it sets off. Let us hope that is the case.

I have been giving a lot of thought to your gift selection. Maybe something for the summer, to match what you have for colder times. I've taken account of one, at least, of your hobbies, just a little something for you to work on. Something spicy and something sweet. Something to listen to as well. It's all in the bag and ready to go.

Fret not Dan. Your prezzie is still under construction but due to the fact I have spent the last week building igloos, stables and small shelters for the dwarves it hasn't got any further.

I KNOW I am supposed to know all the words for snow but I've been here 27 years and never had it so deep - about 15" by my bird table! Trying to keep them fed is difficult enough. There is no post around here at the moment either.

Please remember I use the OLD Christmas for my celebrations - and don't give up on me yet.

Warm hugs from a chilly place.

Hmmm...that means I'll throw some red and green tartan tarps over everything except Tom, the tree and the cats, see that there's a chair without a pile of books and papers, and make space for single malt and Russian tea cakes and Berlinerkranzer.

Near disaster averted, you'll be relieved to hear. Two of the reindeer suffering from frostbitten antlers after doing some errands in Scotland, two more with hypothermia after visiting Yorkshire. You'd think they'd be used to cold weather, living here in the North Pole, but the UK seems to have beaten all records recently for shivering temperatures. But all is not lost - your package has been entrusted to the mail services, who seem confident of making a delivery (with any luck before December 25th), so you won't need to leave out refreshments in the traditional way but you should be assured of your goodies.
It goes without saying, my dear, that if your package should arrive well in advance of the right date you must wait patiently before opening it, or all might turn to dust and ashes as you watch.
Have a most merry and jolly Christmas tide!

Oh, I am a contented, though still singularly squirrely, Santa!

Severn's nuts have been gathered, wrapped, packed, and consigned to the tender ministrations of my local Village Postmistress. Soon (within a week or so) his parcel should have completed its perilous journey to Severn's neck of the woods.

Will he wait 'til Christmas to unwrap it, I wonder, or will the intriguing odours of the nuts pervade his being until he simply must open his parcel? No matter: Even if he does, he will still have a layer of wrapping paper and string to get through before the nature of his gift is revealed.

As to when he opens it, Severn may wait until his chosen Midwinter Holiday or not, as far as I'm concerned. I am a squirrel, after all, and we are not troubled by such details -- though I myself would certainly never open any gift sent to ME before its appointed time. One word of caution, though: If--

(As it turns out, one word of caution is rather less than adequate, isn't it? One SENTENCE of caution, then:) If Severn doesn't wish to know what manner of thing lurks inside the wrapping paper, he should not only not open the wrapped gift before his chosen Midwinter Holiday, but he should in addition not read the accompanying note until The Day has dawned.

Whenever and however he chooses to unwrap it, it is my fondest hope that he will enjoy his gift at least half as much as I have enjoyed being his own, his very own

My family is so spread out these days that it takes a long time to take care of all the Christmas giving and gifts. I won't use the term "scattershot" as it is one that squirrels tend not to like for some reason. Don't worry. 'Tisn't THAT season! But anyway, I always keep the SS present around until the first thing on the morning of Christmas itself to make sure I've something most special to open on the actual day. Then I'll get to daughters, sisters, relatives and friends as I can and just hang around with Molly The Cat until then. I know that slowly, but squirrelly the bounty shall arrive.

The house brownies Hash and McGhee who are guardians over my townshack usually are more on the lookout foe other wee folk to party with when they visit and don't pay much attention to the bushy-tailed folk, as there are are lots of local ones around all year, but they will make sure that special food gets laid out. Acornish Hen and maybe Hickory daquiris out on the dock to wash it down with. We'll see how it all goes down with them to see the local birds trying to steal THEIR food for a change. I bought an old VHS copy of Walt Disney's "Perri" to watch to learn more of your squirrelish ways.

It is snowing as we speak here in Laurel, but it shall most likely all be cleared by the time of your arrival.

Eagerly awaiting your arrival with a hot cup of Santee-Freeze to keep warm while you're staying a-nest-thetized in your nest until leaving time,

Severn

But I've had some problems with my damned computer.

But it turns out that you'll get a whole epidemic!
I'd told you some time ago that I had mailed
Your gifts, but alas it seems that fates prevailed.
Mailing had to be delayed by aquisition
Of a special last-minute new-minted addition.
A follow-up to something quite dear to you
That contains your Santa in a cameo, too.
Huzzah! It is finally well on its way
And will reach you without too much further delay.
It will come to you in a plain box, nothing fancy
You can open it early, if you're feeling antsy.
Enjoy all in Spirit of Holiday Season
For Your Santa considers you well worth the teasin'.

O squirreldly-wise Santa,

I recieved a box in the mail today from a San Jose address that sounded like it was full of nuts when I shook it. I take it that this is indeed and in word the very Box (it had no handle, so it can't be a nut-case) that I'll get to Fanta-Santasize over until I wake up on Christmas morn. It just rattled when I shook it. I was half expecting to hear The Chipmunks doing the Nutcracker Suite or something else from the Squirreled Music section of the library, but I'm sure that

Bushy-Tailed Secret Santa,
You'll go down in Hickory....

...Or get a McAdda-Mia Award or something.
(Acorny joke, I know)

Or some of Mrs. Margerine's Filberts....

I'm just trying to think of Folk-related things that squirrels might do, besides maybe fill oaks.....

But thank you, and Merry Christmas
(unless you're Jewish and attend a Squirrely Temple)

I'll try not to overdo it with the nuts, as I tend to get Planter's Wart.....

Your pleading "In" Santee,
Severn

AHA! Miss Jennie........I know you have been very good, my elves have been watching closely! I do however need to apologise.......due to the very adverse weather conditions here in the frozen North, neither the elves or myself have been able to get out and acquire the materials to create your gift. Nor, once assembled, have my elves...or the reindeer been able to get out to pass this on by pidgeon post. Sadly your gift has only been dispatched today and I fear it will be after Christmas before you receive it. This does, however, give you something to look forward to once all the hubbub of festivities has died down, and I hope that you will forgive us all our inept behaviour in failing to get said present to you on time.
Time for a wee dram, methinks..........
Merry Christmas!
Your Jolly Jovial Santa x

Thank you Santa for those cheery and encouraging words, I hope you, the missus, the elves and reindeer aren't snowed in too badly....I hear things are not too good weather-wise in your neck of the woods.....why don't you spend one Christmas in Oz for a change? The reindeer might find it a wee bit warm, and the elves would need new bikini swimsuits, and I'm sure we can find some new boardies for your good self and something fetching for Mrs Claus. We may even be able to arrange for lessons in surfboarding, should you so desire.

Might be a bit difficult though, I live a few hours inland......

Cheers
JennieG

Dear Santa, so sorry I haven't been around much but life has been tricky recently, but is getting better now that I've started pain management for my back.

I've had a parcel delivered but I'm a bit confused as it's got my address but it's marked for Hilary Spencer. Is it from you? Is it for me?

Now then, young Cats, don't you worry none about your postal delivery man getting there on time. Your gifts will come down your chimmney before Christmas Day ends as I might be running a little late. Give your chimmney a good sweep, won't you? I don't want to get pecked by any birds with nests in there. I know how you look after our fellow creatures.

I got some feedback on the annual wee folks and fauna celecration in my little Townshack courtyard, from which, I am of course forbidden to join in with. All seemed to have a very good time with the provisions I end up providing each year (as well as the Quick & Easy Berlitz language lesson tapes so that Hash & McGhee could brush up on their conversational Squirrel). This stuff is getting more expensive each year. And one of these years they're going to get loud enough to blow their cover. The Hickory Daquiris flowed like wine as they placed bets on which one of the mice the clock would strike and sang "The Nutting Girl", "I'm Getting Nutting For Christmas", most of "Christmas With The Almond Brothers' Band" and allt of their other old favorite Yuletide chestnuts. The only rule was "No Pecan before Christmas Morning!" Molly Kitty was well fed in advance and had no room for a squirrel even if she'd been tempted to eat one. No complaints from the neighbors this year, who both seemed to have fortunately been away.

As usual, a lot of the local wee folk (a bunch of off-the-wall nuts if there ever was one!) and visiting spy and scout elves were in attendance and exceeded ("Don't EVER say 'Dwarfed'!") all previous efforts chronicled on previous threads. Goodwill among species abounded. Lots of tiny bottles ("Don't EVER say 'Miniatures'!") have been recycled and all has been cleaned up and some local squirrelly girlies had their hearts broken.

I eagerly await the Grand Opening first thing on Christmas Morn! Thanks in advance!

Severn

Hils,

I know the "Spence" must be killing you, especially if you're an Artisan Partisan yourself, but GO FOR IT! Part of your just "Re:Ward" for processing (De-Spensing?) it. If it doesn't fit or is the wrong color or duplicates something you have already, it must belong to the other Hillary and should be passed on once you've passed on it, with a note that says, "Whoops! Honest Mistake!".

My dear Ms Hilary - I'm SANTA! Would I not know your full name? Wherever that package is from it's not from me. Your package is snug as a bug, awaiting your attention in two days time. My main elf tells me all is on schedule.

I sent you a little something early on, through one of the elves. If what you have is a very small package then my elf may have got the name wrong - that little package was for opening as soon as it arrived so I would go ahead and find out what it is right now!

It's me again. I've done me best to deliver these presents and now all I can do is hold me breath and hope that the assistant elves do their job right in time for the big day. Barring folks getting totally snowed in everything should be golden.

I'm hoping that the right parcels get to their owners as it can be a bit tricky with so many things to deliver and so many places that they have to be.

As I figured, Christmas won't be the end of my toils. More stuff to be passed on afterward but I still reckon on getting me feet up with that bottle of plonk before I have to do any more work.

Merry Christmas one and all!
