Subject: Graeme Miles Songs Of Ironopolis From: Hoblander Date: 09 Jan 11 - 02:43 PM If a bit of self publicity is good enough for our old mate Ray Padgett, then here goes. The Ironopolis Singers proudly announce the release of their double cd " Songs Of Ironopolis". The song and prose cycle chronicles the development of industrial Middlesbrough and surrounding area, in the North East of England, through the words, music and songs of Graeme Miles. Twenty one songs from the pen of one of the UK's finest songwriters. The full narration performed by Graeme himself. Some of the songs are classics like Ring of Iron and Blue Sunset, but some you will not have heard before. Some are in the books "Songscapes" and "Forgotten Songs Remembered", some are directly from Graeme's own early recordings. The Ironopolis Singers are very proud to have been involved with this project, which is actually the first time Graeme has appeared on a officially sanctioned recording. The price is £12.00 plus any UK or overseas postage and packaging. We don't have an internettywebbythingy site just yet, but if you PM me I'll let you know how to get hold a copy. Very few copies of Songscapes are available, but Forgotten Songs Remembered is very much available, again through me. Thanks to all who have supported us over the last two years, those who have booked us at their festivals and folk clubs, and all of you who have come to see the show. The next show is under development so watch this space. Cheers Kevin Hall |

Subject: RE: Graeme Miles Songs Of Ironopolis From: Ian Hendrie Date: 13 Jan 11 - 11:26 AM Just listening to the first CD. Really enjoying it! As someone who left Stockton-on-Tees when it was still in County Durham (1970),this is bringing back the sights and the smells of my childhood. I don't seem to have much of a sound memory of those times. CD thoroughly recommended. Wonderful cover photo too. |
Subject: RE: Graeme Miles Songs Of Ironopolis From: GUEST,Colin Mather Date: 13 Jan 11 - 03:01 PM I sent a copy to Trevor Blogg who now lives in New Zealand. Old Teesside folkies will remember him,(Harvey's brother)and quote his comments. "If Graeme (or Kevin Hall) was setting out to recreate something with the great qualities of Charles Parker's "Radio Ballads" then they have certainly succeeded. The CD's quality is superb and all the singing is all excellent." Apart from performing hinself Trevor used to do all the techie stuff for concerts etc so comments on the quality are particularly gratifying. Congrats to Ken Hall for producing the CD. |

Subject: RE: Graeme Miles Songs Of Ironopolis From: Hoblander Date: 14 Apr 11 - 04:14 PM Hello Ironopolitans recently on the Jon Boden A Folk Song A Day site he sang Graeme's The Banks of the Tees, which just happens to be the opening song on The Songs of Ironopolis cd. Jon also commented he was having trouble getting on to the web site, and others were complaining about dodgy links to an "Ironopolis " web site. Simple reason. We DO NOT have a web site ( yet). The only site I can think of that folks may be getting confused with is a fanzine site for supporters of a local working mens football team called Ironopolis. Some news for fans of Graeme, we will be performing the whole show, with Graeme, at Whitby Folk Week in August. Also at Middlesbrough Reference Library on 4th May 7.30pm Copies of the cd are avaiable from me, see above 21 jan Anybody searching for an original copy of Songscapes will be disappointed. it is now out of print, they have all gone, Forgotten Songs Remembered is still avaiable, though. bye for now Kevin |

Subject: ADD: When the Tees Ran Warm (Graeme Miles) From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 21 Jan 19 - 08:04 PM Here's the words. If anyone wants the tune I'll post it. Mick WHEN THE TEES RAN WARM (Graeme Miles) Cold run the waters, waters of the Tees, On the shore bleak Winter's frost and snow; And no bird is singing in a firmament of gray, And the smoke from yonder factory rises slow. Chorus: And I am yet, and even yet, Thinking on the one I still adore. The one who said goodbye, but gave no reason why, When beneath the Summer sun the Tees ran warm. Black run the waters, waters of the Tees, Lapping round the barges by the quay. The last time I was here my love was at my side, The very side I thought he'd always be. Chorus Slow run the waters, waters of the Tees, Past the empty wharves and lofty cranes. It was on this very ground I stole my first warm kiss; How I wish I could live that time again. Chorus Silent run the waters, waters of the Tees, Carrying the big ships to the sea. Constantly my mind dwells on the one I love, And I wonder if he ever thinks on me. Chorus And I am yet.
