The cord of my telephone having been broken accidentally, and attempts to splice the four wires together having failed, I eventually had to resort to opening it in an attempt to detach the remainder of the line entirely and then buy a new one. Inside, I found a square package of what seems like soft caramel, sealed in clear plastic. It surely has no connection with the operation of the phone? Does anyione know?

Someone put it there. However, to be safe, throw the thing in a lake. It's an old assassin's trick to wire a phone and when the assassin makes sure the target is on the line, kaboom.

Alternatively, maybe a child/friend has put it there and it really IS a caramel. Either way, it won't hurt the lake.

There was something similar in our phone (a cordless) when opened to put the rechargeable battery in.

I didn't think much about it. Just figured it was there for some reason and let it be.
