Hiya,
       My youngest Grandchild Amos has recently had his 1st Birthday and a grand little chap he is, however he was born with a rare liver condition known as Billary Atresia and when he was 9 weeks old he had to undergo a 7hr operation to save his life. The operation was successful, however it is likely that he'll need to have a liver transplant, at some stage in the future, he also has to take medication on a daily basis and so has to visit the Children's Liver unit at Leeds General Infirmary regularly.

With this in mind Amos's parents, relatives and family friends are planning a series of fundraising activities over the coming weeks and the money raised will be split equally between the Children's Liver Disease Foundation to help with research and for ward 12 & the Children's Liver unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

My contribution to the fundraising is to walk the Dales way, which Starts in Ilkley and finishes in Bowness on Windermere in the lake District and then walk back, a total distance of 165 miles. I'll be doing it over 7 days between July 23rd & 29th. My itinerary is as follows;

July 23rd Ilkley to Kettlewell                         24 1/2 miles
July 24th Kettlewell to Dent                           27 miles
July 25th Dent to Burneside                           21 miles
July 26th Burneside to Burneside via Bowness 20 miles
July 27    Burneside to Dent                            21 miles
July 28th Dent to Kettlewell                            27 miles
July 29th   Kettlewell to Ilkley                           24 1/2 miles

a good cause, obviously....but the thread title will confuse those who immediately think of Amos, the Mudcatter. I suggest a title clarification.

Very good cause...but I do agree with Bill....in fact kept picturing Mudcatter Amos in a collar and leash, being walked around downtown San Diego.

Muppet, I added a clicky for your link, then I looked at the donations page. Is there any way for those of us across the pond to donate via PayPal or somesuch? Poor little tyke, he is adorable. As a grandma of three, I can only imagine how hard this must be and I wish you scads of good luck on your walk and with his treatments.

May I suggest you get a UK football team to support a charity for Amos. The Boston Red Socks created the Jimmy fund and it continues to this day.

The mudcat Amos has seemingly retreated to prolificly posting primarily in the exclusive thread mother of of all mudcat threads. While originating the Random traces thread he is no longer found there. That he popped up here is encouraging. I can only guess that there was probably some sort of misunderstood, accusation or disrespect which led to an argument of absurd erroneous proportion that caused Amos to take his ball and go home. I could be wrong or behind the curve but I look forward to a more diverse discovery of his input.

A charity agent/publicist may be only as honest as a crooked fight promoter. 95% of charitable contributions commonly go to the administrators of those funds, still, 3% of something is better than any bake sale.

The life span of a television plea that moves people to action is about 4 weeks. Thats why I suggest a sports team that will carry a logo for a cause or a cure for a long time is a path worth pursuing.

Thanks for the suggestions Donuel,The weblink set up has been set up by Amos's Family and so the money raised will go straight to the 2 charities named. The local sports teams are already committed to several other charities, though we have got promises of support from a number of national high street chains.

On a slightly different note, Max, I'm finding it difficult accesesing this thread, as are a number of other UK Folk as the Non music threads don't tend to be always available. Owt you can do about it.

It is easy enough to find financial statements for charities on line. This statement simply is not true.

Muppett,
A local fire department runs a fund raising dinner dance every year. This year they chose my niece, who is autistic, as the recipient. Businesses donated goods and services for an auction and a raffle. People paid for their meals, music and dancing with a little extra added to fund the charity. Hailey got a sizeable fund to open a trust account. She will need special services all of her life.
