Could all of those with FB pages consider 'liking' this page, please...I've also asked if there's an official petition to help this man's case...

Peter Yarrow's article on Tim DeChristopher and his Trial

Excellent article. Excellent man Christopher is, too..

There's another article about Tim here. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-mckibben/what-hope-patriotism-and-_b_910412.html
I'll be looking for a petition on the environmental sites I'm already familiar with.

"I do not want mercy, I want you to join me!"

Tim's statement to the Court...after they sentenced him to 2 years!

I saw that from a few sources on Facebook today and would have posted the link if you hadn't. Here's one about protesters outside the courthouse. Twenty-six were arrested. I'm still looking for a petition!

From Mr. DeChristopher's statement before at his sentencing:

"In these times of a morally bankrupt government that has sold out its principles, this is what patriotism looks like. With countless lives on the line, this is what love looks like, and it will only grow. The choice you are making today is what side are you on."

Those are some inspiring and utterly brilliant words.

The law is truly an ass! Surely the officers of the court deserve nothing but contempt in this case!

Bill McKibben wrote a good essay about this a few days ago. It was published in a Utah paper.

THE jUDGE SAID "Since you bid as a protester, you are going to jail."

So, if a bidder did it our of criminal fraud, he would not go to jail. Or if an oil company decided not to pay, they would not go to jail.

But since Tim bid as a protest, he is getting the book thrown at him.

He knew perfectly well what he was getting into when he did it

I value what he did and why he did it, but, Donuel, he was given a 2-year, $10,000 sentence, instead of the 10-year, $1,000,000 sentence that the prosecutor wanted him to have. So, no, he did not have the book thrown at him. A tenet of civil disobedience is acceptance of the consequences of your actions in the existing legal setting, in the interest of drawing attention to the need for change.
