Subject: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: olddude Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:43 PM I figure it's time we have the first annual true Geezer awards here. Name your entry and why .. I am going with my buddie Kendall (he still does his music on a Victrola) :-) Then again, I carry a watch daily from 1918. So I am on the list I guess |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: jacqui.c Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:45 PM How did I know, before even opening this thread, that Kendall was going to be nominated? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: pdq Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:46 PM Louie Roy and Q are both in their mid 80s so that alone should rate a Geezer Award. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: ranger1 Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:47 PM Probably because the man has been known to wear a t-shirt that reads Grumpy Old Git on it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: ranger1 Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:48 PM Kendall, that is. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:51 PM I could nominate a bunch but I could not tell you why. Oh, I know WHY but I just couldn't. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 12:56 PM What's the age limit? Are "honourary" nominations accepted? I'd like to be listed in that kinda company. Hmmm, do the nominees have any say in the honourary nominations? If so, I doubt if I will be listed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: katlaughing Date: 09 Sep 11 - 02:28 PM I don't know about geezers, but i did think of a new moniker for olddude/dan...Mr. Generosity or Generous Dan-the Man! thanks again, Dan! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: olddude Date: 09 Sep 11 - 02:42 PM Well I did see a video of my Brother Bruce with sandals and white socks. does that count ... come to think of it, I did that meself last night ... tee hee |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Sep 11 - 02:51 PM Nah g, you're too young. You're more of a GIT 'Geezer in Training'. Grumpy Old Git's are an industry around here, sometimes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 09 Sep 11 - 02:51 PM Having a Geezer Award around here is sorta like having a Mosquito Award in the Okefenokee Swamp. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 02:56 PM GIT... another to place after my name. I like it. I hope to have you sign the papers for my GE, Geezer Emeritus, someday John. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:02 PM BTW, John has taken me under his wing over the years an ATTEMPTED to school me in the finer points of Geezerhood and just life in general. That is certainly worth a nomination. Gee... I just thought of a number of Geezers who have done the same thing... am I really that messed up? >;-) I rather think that all you Geezers are generous and mindful of teaching young pups... I'll leave it there and just say... thanks... you all know who you are. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:16 PM Not all the time! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:27 PM Is there gonna be Geezer and Geezerette nominations? I CERTAINLY would not nominate any Geezerettes. I might get skelped by some of them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:34 PM What about geezettes? I swan, you boys are all up on yourselves. What exactly are the criteria? Is it merely age? Is it most years on mudcat? Highest number of posts? Highest number of silly posts? Is it other unnamed idiosyncrasies, peculiarities, what not? Is it a blending of all of the above? If so what is the weighting of each? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:37 PM Who is going to moderate the entries? Will bribes be kiboshed? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:37 PM Thickness of the dust layer |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:38 PM Have you done Equality Impact and Risk Assessments? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:39 PM that's Health and Safety John. Thanks for reminding me. Will masks and gloves be needed? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:45 PM Depends on where the dust is laying |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 09 Sep 11 - 03:51 PM Decency and / or environmental impact study will need doing then. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: olddude Date: 09 Sep 11 - 04:23 PM Correct, age is not a limit, it is based on actions and what stage of decay is secondary I think. Like, do you always have to back your car into the parking space .. that is a geezer action .. I got a bunch of them that I do ... wake up in the morning and go "OHHHHHHH MY BACK" |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 04:35 PM Thickness of the dust layer? If age don't matter I'm in hands down. >;-D (Some will get that inside joke. And, if I must say so myself, it's a good one.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 04:40 PM Of course, I was just making a joke. I certainly do not merit inclusion in any way. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Sep 11 - 05:11 PM People who drive into a parking space, then reverse out, blithely ignoring the accident they could cause; should be hung drawn and quartered, then shot at dawn for a week. How come people can reverse OUT of their driveway, but not in? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: Bill D Date: 09 Sep 11 - 05:26 PM Etymology: surely it is no coincidence that geezer/gazer/guzzler are so close in the language. (I, myself, have been carefully avoiding being designated 'geezer'. Curmudgeon, 'valued senior source of knowlege'...sure... but geezer seems to denote a decline of overall competence and awareness.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Sep 11 - 05:31 PM Etymology huh? Pick the bones out these similarities Impotent/Important Elegant/Elephant I rest my case :-) JGM |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: olddude Date: 09 Sep 11 - 07:47 PM John, that is great .... thanks for the laugh I completely agree about the backing into every dang thing. My neighbor has to back his lawn mower even into the garage ... I mean the difference is what? someone has to explain that to me how pulling out into traffic to back into a parking spot is safer then pulling in ... don't get it |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: Joe_F Date: 09 Sep 11 - 08:34 PM If one cannot be a geezer, may one at least aspire to be an old fart? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: ChanteyLass Date: 09 Sep 11 - 10:33 PM I need to point out that employees of any age of my local phone company who drive company vehicles are required to back into parking spaces. I thought that was true of members of the US military service too. At least I think I read that in some nonfiction book. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 11:16 PM John... "People who drive into a parking space, then reverse out, blithely ignoring the accident they could cause; should be hung drawn and quartered, then shot at dawn for a week. How come people can reverse OUT of their driveway, but not in?" I agree. It is safer to back into a spot where there is no traffic and to then be able to drive forward into a spot where there is traffic. It's just common sense. No? Am I missin somethin here? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 09 Sep 11 - 11:24 PM BTW... my old man taught me that when he was teaching me to drive when I was a teen. And he was RCAF but I don't think the RCAF thing matters. It's just common sense. I park my truck in my driveway the wrong way but I am on a dead end street and I have a rear view camera. When I park Mum's car, I always reverse into the driveway. Don't make me a geezer, just safe. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 10 Sep 11 - 02:46 AM The parking backwards thing is all about facilitating the fast get away, if ever needed. It comes from the preparedness (aka boy scout) gene. I think we are witnessing the extinction of this gene, though as fewer men appear to be backing into the drive these days. BTW, TheSiletOne backs into parking spaces randomly. He is nearly 61. I cannot ascertain what engenders the decision on the spot to park forward or backward. It is a mystery. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: MikeL2 Date: 10 Sep 11 - 04:27 AM hi I am such a poor parker of a car that I always park in by going in forwards. I think this is because by the time I get to where I want to park I am so annoyed that I don't trust myself to back in. When I come to go out I have usually composed myself. I used to be a really good at parking having lived and worked in Central London for three years. Nowadays I don't get to have to park that much and my mind is less able to take in all the road rage going on around me. So my free bus pass gets used more these days. Yes I am a grumpy old git when driving !!! Cheers Mike |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 10 Sep 11 - 04:40 AM Is it true that assassinate, precedes assinine? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 10 Sep 11 - 06:53 AM John I think it is the other way around. Surely it takes asinine to instigate assassinate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: DrugCrazed Date: 10 Sep 11 - 07:01 AM Hey, I carry a watch daily as well! And I'm the baby of mudcat! It's just done in binary. The geek revolution shall be soon. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 10 Sep 11 - 09:13 AM Nah VT, 8 always comes before 9 |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: GUEST,999 Date: 10 Sep 11 - 11:12 AM Parking is easy. Never missed. First time every time. However, I can't drive worth a shit. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: Bill D Date: 10 Sep 11 - 11:16 AM "... I can't drive worth a shit." So...that is job security for your rescue/emergency work? ;>) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: GUEST,999 Date: 10 Sep 11 - 11:41 AM 1) I was foolin' around, but fire trucks and ambulances are ALWAYS backed into the hall, whether the doors are open or not. 2) I moved and am no longer doing firefighting or rescue, Bill. I sure do miss it. Driving is easy: just keep it between the ditches :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: VirginiaTam Date: 10 Sep 11 - 12:48 PM John - that last riposte certainly qualifies you as a geezer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 10 Sep 11 - 01:23 PM Six is afraid of seven. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 10 Sep 11 - 01:33 PM How high is a Chinaman |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 10 Sep 11 - 03:22 PM I've been to Wifey's World. I don't think it's quite in the same context as it's a porno site. But it's very, ah, er... tastefully done. I might add, I just looked at the free samples. I would never pay money. Even though I am apparently not a geezer, judging by the free stuff, if I paid for the "good" stuff, I could have a heart attack. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: John MacKenzie Date: 10 Sep 11 - 03:29 PM Yes, but what a way to go |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Geezer Awards From: gnu Date: 10 Sep 11 - 03:34 PM Going while |
