prayer offered for roy as he awaits news.

The Dr has just been to see mum and says her chest infection is no better but also that mum has had a minor stroke which has affected her speech, we had thought that the speech problem had been caused by the chest infection making the dementia more complicated? Not quite sure which is worse? She is her usual smiling self, she is quite amazing!!

Just having a coffee if anyone would like to share, it is a big coffee pot!

I have just caught up with everyone and send the most healing thoughts to all, (such good news Pete,) so this crew is having a powerful effect. I am really so in awe of the collective love and kindness that the is being focused here, it is indeed a very important place in the mudcat family and is the first place I go to every morning and last thing at night.

At the moment my main concern is my dear mum, and when I am awake with her during the night the Rainbow is where I go to find companionship and support.

Long may we all sail together through fair weather or bad,

with love

THanks for all the tboughts and prayers that have come my way.

My mate Roy is going for tests today to see if his cancer has spread. he currently has asophageal(?) cancer. If it hasn't, he MAY be a candidate for surgery. If it has he's been given 6-9 months. He's one of the friends I said makes me feel lucky to only have Kidney Cancer.

Thoughts and prayers for him would be much appreciaated.
He's told me he will let me know the outcome this afternoon (West Aussie time) and I'll pass on any info as soon as I hear. He's a Great Singer/Songwriter and an alround good bloke.

Cheers

Bugsy

have just read of and expressed a prayerful hope that richards op had gone well and that any residual cancer will be effectively treated.

pleased to find tommy today not in high dependancy but straight to ward and much better.beckys [and tommys] GP was ,she heard, also very pleased as he had feared a long spell on ventilator for him might have proved fatal.thank God - and some kind friends!.

nigel- i hope that as the rainbow sails on that you will find some "fair havens" on the voyage where you, ann, and jane are able to replenish and take on board whatever is needed when the sea is stormy.
God bless    pete.

Thanks, people. Richard is through the surgery successfully and is doing as well as can be expected: the docs think they've "got it", but need to do all the tests to be sure.

All down to your (and some of his other friends) help, I'm sure.

Much appreciated.

Paws & your friend Richard, you are most welcome to come aboard. I see you've already been greeted by Pete J., Sandra & Wendy. We all hope & trust that Richard's surgery is successful & that it was an early intervention. Paws, when you have a moment, read through some of the earlier comments in our Thread; get to know some of the most warm-hearted, generous spirited folk with whom it's ever been my privilege to correspond. A word of warning though, a few are definitely borderline crazy, but we find room for them, just the same! (-;

Janie, I clearly need to apologise to you too for grasping the wrong end of the stick, big time! On reflection though, I think, inadvertently, we have uncovered the potential to do more for the common good. Our thread remains, as is, but it can also serve as a 'hub', a conduit of news & information provided by individuals about their own threads & alerting us to the needs of others, of whose whose plight we may not be aware. ChanteyLass said that she would probably start her own thread if the need arose, but would still post here to let us know. Spaw has let us know about Bugsy. Almost certainly, I would have missed that.
Positive news from Pete & Wendy; very good to read. Kat, thank you for the link to that wonderful story about Music & Cancer. If you haven't done so already, click on the link & be prepared to be moved & inspired.
Janie, your post of 13th & Wendy, yours on 14th., in common with others, moved me to tears, but helped me to think & reassess my own situation. Today, the final words belong to Janie: "There is so much listening here."
          With Love,
                         Nigel & Ann.

Nigel,

some time ago someone asked me if I thought I should start a thread for Billy amd me, but I thought then, and still do, that I felt safe here with the Rainbow crew, maybe not everyone who knows us on mudcat is sailing with us,but the enveloping love and support means so much to both of us.These friendships are long lasting and we will never lose touch!

Janie, very happy to be included in a collective meditation, and thank you we had a very good day,Billy saw his skin cancer consultant today and he does not want to see him for three months!

I feel stronger and better able to cope, thanks to the crew

sailing onward, through snow and sleet tonight with a happy heart,

Janie, you raise a very important point. Mudcatters must always retain their right to create their own threads as & when necessary. I would be deeply unhappy if this thread were to create an atmosphere of usurping an individual's right to post individually & independently. By extending the thread, I have to own up to my own selfishness; I don't want to lose touch with a single one of you.

I woke up this morning to bright sunshine, my brother stayed last night to sit with mum so Billy and I had the first good nights sleep since Christmas, also yesterday was a good day. I sent Billy off to spend the afternoon with Samantha and the grandaughters and he returned home with a roast dinner so I didnt have to cook.

While he was out I had a long and fullfilling phone call with our lovely vicar Robert and he is going to visit with mum sometime this week.

The absess on my wisdom tooth that has been a constant pain for a few days has gone overnight! Billy has just made me breakfast in bed!!

So sending very positive and loving thoughts to all the crew,

This is in many ways a collective thread of caring and sharing, and very powerful for that - thank you Nigel.

Awkard long sentence alert.

Fwiw, I sincerely hope for the many people posting here who are currently dealing with their own personal situations that those of you who wish and would find it supportive to reach out for focused support or need to share a focused narrative that you will not hesitate to post a separate thread also. I, for one, while holding all of you inclusively in my meditations, welcome such threads that help me to specifically recall and focus my attentional processes, and help me contemplate and relate on a very personal level.

During my father's year long illness with Melanoma Mudcatter's held all of us, and especially Dad and Mom in their thoughts and prayers. Although neither Mom nor Dad have ever been on Mudcat, I kept them informed that many from across the country and around the world were holding them in deepest positive regard. I really can not convey how meaningful the knowledge of those kindnesses from complete strangers meant to them.

At some point along the journey they opened a package to find a Mudcat Shawl done by Jacqui. It meant even more to my father than did the prayer shawl he had received from his church - I mean, one anticipates support from one's church, life-long friends and family. That shawl was the covering that stayed on the back of Dad's recliner, or wrapped around his shoulders or legs right up until he was confined to bed in the last 2 weeks of his life. Mom now has it carefully heirloomed and put away with the American flag that drapped the shrine at his Memorial Service.

That thread was also a blessing to me - a place where I could look for support at a time when my job in the family was to offer support and care. It was a place to share our story and to share a little something about my beloved parents and sister. Sometimes what we most need is to be able to tell our story and know that someone is listening with attention.

There is so much listening here.

Nigel, you set the tone at the beginning and it was reflected back to you, Ann, and Jane. That so many have found solace, etc. here has a lot to do with your eloquent, raw/honest, beautiful writings and the soul which shines from them. I think I can safely say this is the Best of the best threads on Mudcat.

I know I've been kinda quiet of late, but I do read this every day and I am giving thanks for the Guidance we all receive.

much love to all,

kat

I don't usually make New Year's Resolutions & what I'm about to write is more akin to a Life Resolution, but it is my intention to maintain this thread beyond the end of Jane's Voyage. Originally, I assumed this would be a modest form of support for Ann & myself that would have it's own natural cadence. However, over the past year our Thread has grown in breadth & depth. It has become important to many more people than I ever expected. Indeed, I don't think I ever considered the possibility that other Folk might find Love, Help & Support here. I couldn't have been more wrong! I don't think it's possible or even necessary to attempt to quantify or define just what it is We have all created. What I will say is that it feels important, right & necessary that our Voyage continues.
Today, my thoughts are focussed particularly on Wendy & Billy; Dan; Pete & Tommy; Rapparee & his Wife & several others of whom I'm aware, but who wish to remain anonymous.
ChanteyLass summed it up perfectly: " I'm thinking in terms of one year at a time." I'm inclined to add: "....and the next, & the next &........."
                              With Love to You All,

Dear Nigel

One year of the Rainbow Crew, I popped in on day two just to send love to you and Ann and, of course Jane. For some weeks I just sat on deck reading the compassionate words of wisdom from these(now) friends, not knowing what the next few months had in store for my family and me.

In Febuary my darling husband Billy had an operation for skin cancer, a melanoma on his back, which was more involved than we had thought and he was 6 weeks to recover. We were lulled into a false sense of well being then in March were told the CLL ( leuchemia) that he had been diagnosed with 7 years before had become a major concern and he needed chemotherapy.which he said he would not do!! However with the consultant and myself ganging up he did agree and you all know that he completed the six months treatment in December and we await the bone marrow biopsy in 8 weeks to see how the treatment has worked.

All through this we have looked after my dear old mum, Dementia has its lows(lots of them) but also we have times of hysterical laughter when mum has some lucid very funny thoughts, often saying things about family members that maybe she has supressed over many years, so now the truth will out!!

She has been very ill since Christmas and I have been very down over the past three weeks, but the Rainbow Crew have been here for me and I cannot thank you all enough, wish I could get you all in a big room and tell you how much your support and friendship means to me, HUGS all round. But Nigel all I can say is "Thank you" and you are in our thoughts every day and will be thoughout the coming days and months.

with much love

Wendy xxxxxx

PS after three nights without any sleep, zombie like, I have just got mum to eat a homemade shepherds pie, first food since Monday !!
