Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 21 Jun 14 - 12:57 AM Holding all of us up to light and love. Expect Spaw's remains to push up awesome daisies and fast race cars. Let us embrace one another now. If you don't need it, I do. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 21 Jun 14 - 02:27 AM Not good news to come home to - a feller 'Catter left me a message on facebook to let me know about Pat. Even though we never met in person, it is possible to get a sense of someone from their postings on a site like this and I reckon Pat was one of the good ones. To echo what someone said at my brother's funeral on Thursday, he was a good bloke. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 21 Jun 14 - 04:48 AM Through the tears I reread some of Spaw's posts on the Rainbow, on March 1st he wrote " great googilly moogilly" and called me a "gem" Oh Spaw there are many gems on the Rainbow, but you shone as the brightest gem of all, even while you were so ill you sent so much love and support to others. This crew will never be the same but we will join together to cry, laugh and remember you as we sail on. Up, up,up Spaw! Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 21 Jun 14 - 05:08 AM Please forgive the duplication; I posted this on Spaw's/Pat Patterson's obit thread: "The sweetest apple from the highest bough has been picked by a greater hand". Pat, Patrick Patterson (son of Patrick), you were one of the few people who, within the space of one brief paragraph, could be profane, profound, offer comfort, make me laugh & cry, but always left me with the feeling that something special had just taken place. I will treasure your posts & PMs. I will miss your humour & insight. I will miss your love of life which shone through every word you wrote. Above all, I will miss You, Pat, a man I've never met in person, yet feel I know so well. You have enriched my life. To Karen, your Family & Friends, I send my heartfelt condolences & love. Despite the ocean that separates us, Ann & I are by your side, each & every day. With Much Love, Nigel & Ann Patterson (two 'Ts' in honour of Pat) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 21 Jun 14 - 05:27 AM JennieG, I didn't mark your brother's passing, nor offer so much as a crumb of comfort. I feel guilty about my omission & hope that you will accept my belated, but nonetheless sincere condolences following your sad loss, With Love, Nigel xxxx |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 21 Jun 14 - 09:39 AM Thanks, Pete and Nigel. We (Himself and I) spent this evening at celebrations for the 70th birthday of Bill, a man who is the director for my Thursday night choir, and who has been a tower of strength for a very long time in the theatrical and musical life of this town since making his debut at the tender age of six. The choir sang, a small group of us who belong to both the choir and the local uke group sang a song specially written for Bill, and people told stories and jokes and reminisced about Bill, his life and work. Bill and everyone else present (the hall was packed) had a really great time. It was such a lovely way to end what has, frankly, been a shit of a week and an affirmation that, no matter how bad things are, life does go on. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 21 Jun 14 - 09:42 AM I have a client coming in 20 minutes, but I can't stop the tears that keep welling up. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Amergin Date: 21 Jun 14 - 10:54 AM I was just scrolling through the names on this thread, and saw two that are no longer here....Kat, about a year ago...and now Spaw... This has been a shitty week. I lost two friends that I held dear... One was a woman that I fell in love with...and then rejected me a few months ago. We started talking again about a month ago...and then the other day, out of the blue she basically told me to fuck off and that she doesn't want to hear from me again. I lost her friendship and she mine, through her own pettiness....and we were very close once. Now, Spaw....he was a great guy very vulgar, but a huge heart...and I will miss him. This however is nothing compared to losing a father and a husband...so my thoughts are with Karen and the boys... |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 21 Jun 14 - 06:08 PM For those that may not 'know' Spaw. He was a staunch supporter of Mudcat and Max and Jeff from day one. He led many pledge drives and raised a lot of $ for Mudcat. He was a staunch defender of all members and guest in Mudcat. His vulgar humour slayed many trolls and twits. He called them out and beat them ferociously with his wit and his eloquence. He was a man of great compassion and generosity and he counselled many, including me, over the years. He freely shared his wisdom, his knowledge and his shoulder. One could not know a finer gentleman. Why, he could call you a broke dick malamucca motherfucker and you would be overjoyed at the accolade. He was/is a hero of mine. He WAS Mudcat to me and he IS Mudcat to me. That's why I am still here. This thread is one of the few threads he read and posted to when he became frail. Nigel's thread has touched many in many ways. It touched Spaw. It has touched me. Thank you, Nigel. Thank you, Spaw. gnightgnu, Spaw... buddy. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 22 Jun 14 - 12:03 AM All Hands On Deck! Just because it is simpler for all of us to hold one another in our mutual embraces of loving kindness when everyone is on deck. Now, back to work. Sails need trimmed. Decks need swabbed. Who's working in the Galley, and how many meals are needed? Who wants coffee vs tea? Who is in charge of the grog? I don't know a daggum thing about navigating, but will aim for the sun, for now, until some one else can take over to set our complicated course. Neither the world nor the world stands still for anyone or any reason. That is why we sail together. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: maeve Date: 22 Jun 14 - 06:23 AM I'm here, Janie...just so involved in caretaking and land clean-up and fire trash removal and hurting for friends... but here, also. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 22 Jun 14 - 06:43 AM aiming for the sun is an excellent idea, I'll join you & maybe get a photo or 2 while I'm there. sandra (who loves taking pics into the sun without looking at it!) |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 22 Jun 14 - 07:35 AM Janie's right, there's much to do aboard. May I suggest we keep the flags at half-mast for a few more days. Gnu, your account of Pat accords exactly with the mental image I have of him. Thank you for your closing words...very honoured & humbled. Amergin, the depth & candour of your post is profoundly moving. What is even more moving is that you relegate your pain & distress in favour of Karen & her Family. The Crew of The Rainbow embrace you, as we embrace Karen. As I wrote, back in May: ".....Set the sails...splice the mainbrace...plot a course for the sun." Our voyage continues. Please continue to lay a place at table for Pat for a little while longer. With Love to You All, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 22 Jun 14 - 01:27 PM I have been trying for about 45 minutes to find an online obit for Spaw that I can sign and comment on but not even a search for same in his hometown has worked. Anyone? |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: GUEST,pete from seven stars link Date: 22 Jun 14 - 03:48 PM good to read of your lovely evening, jennie, celebrating your respected choirleader, and that it seems to have taken a little of the sting of loss, and encouraged a " pressing on " attitude. blessings........and peace to spaws loved ones and friends pete. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 22 Jun 14 - 04:20 PM Here is the link for Spaw's obit. Thanks BM. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 22 Jun 14 - 05:22 PM And thank you, Gnu for posting the link. Will you post it to Spaw's obit thread, please? Always will be a place set at the table for Spaw, Kat, Jane, and all those who still live in our hearts and minds. I think it is clear that if immortality exists in no other terms, it surely exists in the inpact we have on others, and the way that impact shapes others down through generations. No matter how we make meaning or whether we understand "Glory" as a reality or metaphor, I'm sure our Spawser had a seat saved, and is saving a seat for each of us from the center of his incredibly human and compassionate heart. Save a Seat for Me |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 26 Jun 14 - 06:38 AM Taking the lead from Janie & revising my earlier post, we'll keep places set at table for Kat, Spaw, Jane & all our Dear Departed in perpetua, not "...for a little while longer". The Rainbow's capacity to accommodate is unlimited, relying solely upon us, The Crew & hopefully new or returning visitors, to post, as & when we can. With Love, Nigel xxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 27 Jun 14 - 02:55 AM Are glasses filled, and ready to be raised? |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 27 Jun 14 - 08:22 AM JennieG, glasses charged & raised in memory of all our Dear Departed... Janie, great choice of Music. The Blues always seems to have the uncanny knack of getting to the heart of the matter...no frills, no fuss, sung sincerely & directly to the listener. Dean, thank you for the timely parody...very tempting to rewrite the whole song, but we'd probably get a call from The Beach Boys lawyers! Pete, insightfully put...hit the nail right on the head. 'Jane's Rainbow' is guided by need & circumstance, combined with a gentle hand at the wheel; a task with which we all take turns, intuitively & selflessly. With Love, Nigel. xxxx |

My Admiral nurse is going to be here thank goodness. Safety in numbers?? Also expecting my brother here any minute and I have to tell him the solicitor says we must sell mum's bungalow. Sparks will fly!! have felt so wobbly today wanted to stay in bed, not me at all, so I will carry on knowing the Rainbow crew are at my back. Will go on board later and sit on deck and sail to the Greek islands in my mind. much love Wendy xxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: GUEST,pete from seven stars link Date: 29 Jun 14 - 03:33 PM oops, try again now I,m home. we were in hastings Saturday evening and there was a steampunk performance near the seafront. 5 actors/gymnasts in costume ,and more in the audience. it made a pleasant evening. oh, wendy. I presume you will have had your meeting now [20:30 GB time]. I hope it went reasonably well ;I suspect someone will not be satisfied, but the main thing is the best outcome for your mum, and your peace of mind too. blessings pete. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 29 Jun 14 - 10:08 PM Nope. I'd definitely go for the gin and tonic! Well, one, possibly two. And just for tonight. The tea and the sunshine will be on deck for you in the morning, and all the coddling you need and most definitely deserve! Remember, the only function of worry is to make you feel bad. {{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 30 Jun 14 - 06:27 PM Not bad news this time, but happy - Himself and I are having our first grandkid! Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 30 Jun 14 - 08:18 PM That is wonderful news, JennieG! "There'll be one child born and a world to carry on, to carry on." Never heard this arrangement before. I really like it. Hope y'all do too! And When I Die |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 01 Jul 14 - 03:44 AM Thank you - it's lovely happy news, and we are so thrilled. It's a trite saying but the world does keep on turning, doesn't it? The cycle of birth and death continues; one family member gone, but a new one on the way. Hope for the future. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 01 Jul 14 - 05:29 AM Wonderful news Jennie, the first grandchild is a most treasured beautiful gift, you have so much joy to come. With love to you and your family Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 01 Jul 14 - 07:23 AM Jennie, I'm thrilled to hear your wonderful news. The cycle of Life & Death does indeed continue with 'Hope springing eternal. Wendy, I'm searching for wise words, comforting words, ANY words that might provide you with some extra support at what must be a frustrating & distressing time. It is my earnest wish that these complicated & emotionally charged issues are resolved sooner rather than later, to the satisfaction of all concerned. May peace of mind, compassion & common sense prevail, With Love, Nigel. xxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 01 Jul 14 - 07:59 AM Thanks Nigel and all, We had the meeting with the Social worker yesterday, she had already made her mind up which boxes to tick, although she has never spent more than a minute with mum! However I have to admit mum is borderline for this extra funding so I wasn't surprised that she turned us down. Regarding my brother if he refuses to agree to the sale of the bungalow I will have to go to the Court of protection to have him removed as POA. Very unpleasant and very involved. But, and it is a huge BUT, we have exhausted all mums savings and the care bills are mounting up at a frightening rate. My brother thinks I should give up my business and look after mum 24/7. The salon is my sanctuary and I only do part time hours (as you know by the time I spend at the beach hut,) but I do need to work for financial reasons as well as my sanity! I have to say that my "rock" Billy has been wonderful as usual but our " golden times" that we shouted about a few weeks ago seem all too few and far between. Will need all hands on deck this evening for the next confrontation with my brother, haul away lads and lasses I need calmer waters, much love and thanks Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: GUEST,pete from seven stars link Date: 01 Jul 14 - 05:46 PM with a hope and a prayer wendy, as you traverse these unsettled waters. bless you pete. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 01 Jul 14 - 09:09 PM Wendy, I'm sending more love and hugs and moral support. Keep standing up for yourself and for your mum. It won't be easy; it already is hard, but it must be done and you are the one who must do it. I am glad your husband is with you on all of this. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 01 Jul 14 - 10:25 PM Can guess how much you wish you did not have to go the route that it appears is becoming necessary, Wendy. Breathing deeply along side of you, for what that is worth. Here along with the rest of the crew to take orders from you to help you as you set the uncertain course through stormy seas. And always, the Rainbow can find a bit of calm water and fair winds with warm sun to shelter in when respite is needed. You are sailing with a true heart, and the crew is aboard. Families can be so dang complicated! Holding you, billybob, your mother and your brother in my thoughts. |
