Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: jimmyt Date: 02 Mar 12 - 06:58 PM Lord, you have all mentioned some real swill! INterestingly enough, though you can find some reasonably priced (cheap) wines that will be better than the expensive counterparts. I am a chardonney drinker and pretty much prefer Rombuer and Sonoma Cutrer, (both in the $30 per bottle range,) but I found a bottle of something called Bay Bridge at Kroger. It is not as good, but it is also $4 a bottle and absolutely drinkeable! THink I will have a glass RIGHT NOW! |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: GUEST,Bluesman Date: 02 Mar 12 - 07:02 PM The worst has to be Buckfast Wine. It is made by the Monks in Buckfast Abbey here in England. It is rough. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: jimmyt Date: 02 Mar 12 - 07:07 PM you know, Bluesman, I actually had some of that while at Buckfest Abbey a few years ago and I agree with your opinion! I kinda thought it was bottled right behind the urinals in the Monks' toilet! |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: deepdoc1 Date: 02 Mar 12 - 09:19 PM A San Diego friend always had something called two-buck Chuck from Trader Joe's(?). Used to be two bucks a bottle, though I think it's gone up tp three or so. As I recall, after the first glass it wasn't half bad. |

Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: Elmore Date: 03 Mar 12 - 02:35 PM Thunderbird and Wild Irish Rose. A serious hangover with every bottle. Just the distant memory makes me feel a little ill. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: Beer Date: 03 Mar 12 - 10:28 PM Well Ladies and gentlemen here is a list of the "Puke Wines" that you have mentioned. The only two that I don't think should be on the list is Blue Nun and Black Tower. Not that I have tasted all of the lovely names you have mentioned, but these two I have and even though I don't like sweet wines I would not consider them "Puke". Wouldn't it be great to have a bottle of each of these mentioned in the list below on our shelves to admire. Not opened of course. Adrien Mateus, Szekszárd, Mogen David, Four Aces, Old Niagara, Double Jack, Berry Jack, Cherry Jack, 999, Loganberry, Boone's Farm, Hirondelle, Ocone, Blue Nun, Black Tower, Liebfraumilch, Carafino, Faisca, Thunderbird, Old Duke, Ripple, Wild Irish Rose, Black Bear, Chateauneuf Du Pape, Mad Dog 20/20, La Bonne Merde (special edition to the list.), Barenheier's Port, Scuppernong, Apple Jack, Riunite, Chateau Pis-de-Chat, Vin Tres Ordinaire, Zeller Schwarze Katz, Sangria, Boonesfarm Strawberry, Night Train, Ripple,Thunderird, Another special mention "Shakemup" by Mark S., Bali Hai, Zapple, Annie Green Springs, Andre' Cold Duck, Manischewitz, Sutter Home, Odessa Steps, Chateau Thames Embankment, Cribari, Paisano Red, Cello Lambrusco, Buckfast Wine, Two-Buck Chuck, |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: GUEST,Frug Date: 04 Mar 12 - 10:55 AM Old mate of mine was known as the Lambrusco Kid always to be found with at least one bottle in a bag in case he found a party to go to. Ahh the memories that these names bring back.... and Blue Nun what a great movie that was. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: Beer Date: 04 Mar 12 - 09:27 PM Frug...... Your kidding about the movie, right? |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 05 Mar 12 - 08:43 AM Personally I don't mind the taste of white wine not chilled or not quite chilled enough. To my mind champagne is overated not exactly puke but not all that it is cracked up to be, it was a bit of a disappointment when I tried it. I am just as happy with sparkling wines for special occasions. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: GUEST,Phil Cooper on Susan's laptop Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:08 AM In college sometimes we drank Annie Greensprings plum wine (1973-1977). I decided around then I preferred beer. I've since had a few much better wines, but they all sort of taste like cough syrup to me. So, I figure wine is kind of wasted on me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: GUEST,Frug Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:54 AM Yes Beer I am kidding....... but it may be out there somewhere. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: saulgoldie Date: 05 Mar 12 - 12:09 PM Oh, and Almaden light white rhine wine. It helps with that nasty roughness in your throat from the roach. Geddit by the gallon sose you can pass it around. Saul |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: Beer Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:46 PM I like the name Fruf. "Blue Nun". Lot's of possibilities with that title. Incidentally, I just remembered that when I was drinking all those great wines, my wife (40 years a few months back)and I named our first cat "Mateus". I think that the next one I'll get I will do it again. Nice name and maybe I'll try another bottle if it still exist. ad. |
Subject: RE: BS: Puke Wines From: GUEST,999 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 12:05 PM You folks haven't lived. St George's. It was St George's wine what killed the dragon. Used to buy it before it escalated in price to over $3.50 a gallon. |
