From: SPB-Cooperator

Tonight I saw proof that high-earners are beneath contempt and are not fit to be members of society.
The incident occured at a traffic light controlled road junction. As lights changed and emergency vehicle - sirens and lights blazing approached red light. Car number one waited for emergency vehicle before seting off. Car number two - a prestige car blasted horn because he did not want to be held up for a few seconds.

I am sickened that low life that are allowed to vote. Multiply by all voters who have similar attitudes, we have goverment that is inflicted on us by the scum of the earth.

Not a high earner myself, but don't quite make the connection between bad driving behavior and voting.

"All Indians walk in single file. I know because I saw an Indian once, and HE was walking in single file."

I have a better example, anyway. I was parking my large van at the grocery store once. I pulled into a space and because the van is long, I was easing up as close as possible to the car in the facing row, a black Mercedes. The woman who owned it was either getting in or arriving, and started waving frantically at me. I stopped...maybe 6 inches from her car and got out (I am very good at judging).
I looked at her and she blustered, "I was afraid you were going to hit my car! Do you realize what this cost? Over $40,000! What's yours? Maybe $8000?"

I stared at her, shook my head and went on to the store.

I have no idea whether she votes....

In a true democracy everyone is allowed to vote. Rich, stroppy, bad drivers, numpties, swanky car owners, everyone. That's democracy I'm afraid.

Tonight I saw proof that poor people are beneath contempt and are not fit to be members of society...

Tonight I saw proof that black people are beneath contempt and are not fit to be members of society....

Tonight I saw proof that Jews are beneath contempt and are not fit to be members of society...

(Fill the rest of the story in yourself)

I am sickened that people who can condemn a whole section of society on the basis of one incident are allowed to vote. Multiply by all voters who have similar attitudes, we have goverment that is inflicted on us by the scum of the earth.

right on Dave !

Seems to be some generalization and stereo-typing going on here on the Madcat as of late .... it's a shame.

and Guest, Eliza ... "That's democracy I'm afraid." ... what is there to fear about democracy, what are the other alternatives?

Yeah, bring in a bob or two myself and choose in a morning between a big 4x4 or an open topped sports car.

Obviously I shouldn't be allowed to vote either. I don't have the correct chip on my shoulder and if I can't vote, I suppose the government doesnt want my tax either?

A pity because the top 15% of earners bring in 63% of the tax revenue. Never mind, if you don't get the taxes, you won't have the emergency vehicles in the first place.

You live and learn. Never realised that the more you earn the worse your driving skills. Mind you, haven't had a motoring offence against me since I was a salt of the earth miner. That buggers your theory I presume?

Hmmm maybe I did overreact a bit when I vebnted my spleen - but those who have privilege should be setting an example to the rest of society.

We know what "Bluesman" is. Quite surprising he doesn't pretend to own a Mercedes 770K really.

Distressing that anyone could use the word 'proof' of one minor untested piece of what was scarcely even evidence. SPB's admission that he 'might have overreacted a bit' must surely rank as the most blatant understatement in the entire history of the Universe.

High Earners are not the only people in the world with a shortage of commonn sense . Its NOT that long ago that a survey showed that a third of Sun (UK Daily Paper) readers thought it was a Left Wing paper despite the Right Wing slant to ALL its News and Editorials .

Anyone who earns more than me is an upper-class twit.

Anyone who earns less than me is a lower-class dolt.

All the world's queer save thee and me.

And I'm not so sure about thee.

But is not this a bit thread drifty?

Well said, SPB. It takes courage to admit to an over-reaction some times and, seeing as you started it, I'll admit that excluding everyone who over-reacts from voting was a bit of an over-reaction in itself. I must stop myself voting! :-)

Now, if you would have said that the majority of people doing stupid things on the roads seem to drive new prestige cars then I may have agreed. I think it may be something to do with a) feeing safe with all that protection round them and b) feeling that whetever they are doing must be more important than what evertone else is doing because they are obviously so much more important to have such vehicles!

There are some exceptions - drivers of private hire cars and white vans seem to have their own rules; most people on roundabouts and anyone who gets in my way at anytime of course. :-)

Cheers

""Its NOT that long ago that a survey showed that a third of Sun (UK Daily Paper) readers thought it was a Left Wing paper despite the Right Wing slant to ALL its News and Editorials . ""

It needs to be said, in their defence, that in 1997 it was claiming to have won the election for one Tony B Liar, and in 2010 to have won it for David Cameron.

It does have a long history of changing political allegiance at least as often as most of us change our socks.

????????????????????????????????????????
Why should they anymore than the guy in the ten year old Ford?

I don't set examples, or if I did, they'd be bad ones.

Mind you, I'm not privileged either. Lucky maybe, but the harder I worked, the luckier I got.

In mosrf cases the guy in the 10 year old ford would not normally be driving in a limosine.

ON the 'setting example I will come back to this - I don't have the time at the moment to write a long reply - I can't think of a short, concise one.

Don(Wyziwyg) - In 1997 New Labour dropped ALL mention of Socialism from the manifesto - THAT's how they got support from the Right Wing Rag , but that didnt stop it conning a LOT of sily voters .

The rich don't need to vote - they've got all the politicians in their pockets!

Shimrod is right in some respects. The very rich can buy politicians, t'was ever thus and worldwide.

The original post concerned a bloke in a BMW and perhaps we need to define rich?

After all, the level that many can aspire to gets you to the stage where governments of either side see you as rich pickings. Pension? Well, they earn enough. Pay? They can afford to take a cut. Stamp duty? Serves them right for living where the jobs are. etc etc.

We see public sector professionals being vilified by Osborne and Cameron, mainly because of a sneaking suspicion they won't vote for them anyway. Vilified by those earning less, for reasons I could never fathom. Vilified by the chatterati because if the chattering classes don't exercise their jaws, they might seize up.

Incidentally, a thought I had at the beginning of this thread may at least pop out now. The people who are not fit to vote would be, in any reasonable world, those who would seek to stop others from voting.

Amen to that Ian.

With one proviso. I don't see why convicted criminals should be allowed to vote for representatives in the government whose legislation they have ignored, at least while serving sentences in prison.

When they have served their time, no problem.
