What's your favourite Maddy Prior song??

Hiya,

…..... as in anything that's not with Steeleye Span?

Mine's 'Fabled Hare'. Heard it when I was very little and nothing could convince me that I couldn't become a hare if I sang it, or that she couldn't – because she sang "I shall ….", I didn't realise she wasn't singing about herself.

I eventually made the connection that the woman singing that song was the same one on Dad's tape – that eventually went wrong from being overplayed.


I'm still a bit mystical now. What's your favourite ??

Very hard to choose m but I think it would be Lass of Loch Royal from the Silly Sisters Album.

Why not with Steeleye Span? She was always good but IMO did her best work with them. Handweaver & Factory Maid, with two other songs interpolated, e.g.; with that wonderful final sequence of three Maddys singing "When I was a weaver" in harmony.

I loved her singing on "Hark The Village Wait" (Steeleye Span) - particularly "All Things Are Quite Silent".

Non-Steeleye: Her voice chimes like the purest bells on the track "Allelujah" on the "Going for Glory" album. Also love "The Sovereign Prince" on "Changing Winds".

Steeleye: Combining with Gay Woods on songs on "Hark the Village Wait", but too many to choose from !
