Subject: RE: Help: Looking for the NOTES to Maddy Prior's From: Anglo Date: 07 May 01 - 09:12 PM Don't know about her notes for her version, but I think it's more or less the one other people sing, myself included. It's in Sabine Baring-Gould's "Songs of the West," and Bert Lloyd brought it to light and recorded it himself. B-G (known for bowdlerization and "improvement" of folk poetry) had "Where are your characters" which became maidenheads in the latter day revival of the song. Hope this helps. |
Subject: RE: Help: Looking for the NOTES to Maddy Prior's From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 07 May 01 - 09:22 PM Three things (among more) to look at here, all easily found through the "Digitrad and Forum Search" on the main Forum page (I looked for drunken maidens): Drunken Maidens Four Drunken Maidens Several versions, with midi. Drunken Maidens This is a transcription from the Tim Hart/ Maddy Prior recording of the song, though it has some mistakes in it. The first midi file is the tune you want; it can easily be made into staff notation with one of a number of free- or share-ware programs available; I think that there are links to some of these through the FAQ. If you can't find them, let me know tomorrow when I've caught up on some sleep and I'll sort notation for you. Malcolm |
