I am happy to see that they are being allowed back!
That being said I am ashamed that my country put them through such hell before doing the right thing! I don't think that a sense of pride in my country can return until these sadistic bastards are buried in the shit-pile of past mistakes!

I'm glad they eventually let them back in, but would agree they were put through hell.

Sandy, the Canadian government got around to doing the right thing. I doubt we (the US) would have gotten even that much right.

Thanks Jeri! I think though that it has a lot more to do with buckling under public and media pressure than any desire to do the right thing. Both of our countries have slipped badly in offering human compassion in recent years and that is a pity! I really feel that most all Canadians would be shamed and horrified by this, but come election they still vote for the same old turd. That remains beyond my comprehension!

in addition the emmigration enforcement officer who came to thier house in person seized the american woman's passport under regulations designed to prevent cross border crime. madness. when i lived in toronto there were thousands of illehal immigrat criminals who when going through the court suystem no immigration officers had the time to go arrest them and deport them.

in fact i had a friend who was illegal, and a busker. they has five or six enforcement officers looking for him at one point, while a leader of the naples mafia lived comfortably in new market for five years after italian authorities notified canada there was an international warrant for him.

they go after easy targets to get a good cdeportation and or conviction rate , with no thought as to real threats to canadA

Heard their lawyer on CBC radio this afternoon. Said that because an order had been issued, it had to be executed as she was considered a criminal at THAT point and the fact that she left Canada "allowed" the compassionate consideration. If she she had not left, there could not have been such. Smart laywer if he wasn't TOLD to say that to save face for the miserable bastards.

I wonder if the bastards will pay her legal fees?

And, this crap about being granted a three year residency permit? Don't get me started on why they did that... health care $! At least next time they will will extend the permit without all the crap... hopefully.
