Christy Moore's song is by Kevin Littlewood. The lyrics (which Christy changes a bit) are in this thread

I remember starting a thread about the tragedy just after it happened. Horrible business.

I started to write something myself about it just afterwards. I gave up on it for two reasons: firstly, I didn't think what I was writing was very good and secondly, after the first impulse to 'create' something in response to the tragedy had worn off, I felt somehow that it was tasteless to try and 'cash in' on it (not that I expected to make any money).

Having said that, I haven't heard this song so I don't know what it's like. For me, though, Woody Guthrie's 'Deportees' pretty much says as much as needs saying about the situation of the people who perished at Morecambe and others in a similar situation.

I have heard Allen sing this song and it is very sad and moving and don't forget Allen is from the area If you go to the Fylde Festival at Fleetwood you will see it looks out over Morcambe Bay where this awful tragedy happened.

This one isn't Alan's song but it's about the same terrible tragedy.

Just to say Breezy, that Derek Gifford has recorded a fine version of this song on his excellent new album 'The Past..................into the Future.'
It's called simply 'The Cocklers' Song.'Wildgoose WGS412CD.
No lyric detail in the liner notes but Giff's crystal diction will ensure you get the words loud and clear!

By a strange coincidence I am sure I saw Alan Bell walking down the bank of Malham Beck yesterday. Nothing to do with the song but funny I should see his name today.

Is that the same Alan Bell who wrote "So Here's To You"?

I haven't heard Alan's song, but knowing his songwriting abilities, it won't be a patch on the Kevin Littlewood song!

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions.

For what it's worth I also rate the Kevin Littlewood song very highly and haven't heard Alan's song yet.

You beat me to it, Clive! But I'll repeat it anyway: Derek Gifford has recorded a fine version of this song on his excellent new album 'The Past..................into the Future.'
It's called simply 'The Cocklers' Song.'Wildgoose WGS412CD.

Alan's version will be very average, very predictable, and lacking that "it" factor that "On Morecambe Bay" contains.
