Subject: Searching for name of the artist
From: GUEST,flintcount
Date: 26 May 15 - 03:15 PM

Hi guys, i have a problem. I'm searching for artist which i heard somewhere and i've got one mp3 from this guy - but there were no band name or song name. That's the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2i_tPkLe1Y. I can't find this guy for 6 months.
Things i discovered: - he is Scottish - he isn't old, must be between 30-40 i think
I've found two more songs on my pc:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EfABzA-vCw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0laVRQz1t00

I'll be very grateful if you can help me. Sorry for my english, i don't know if it is bad or good, i live in Poland.

Where/who did you get the mp3 from?
That would seem the most likely route to finding who and what it is.

I don't recognise the singer or the songs, and googling some of the phrases didn't bring up anything- presumably self-composed songs.

Good luck.

idk
but have you done a google search for
the name of the file?

Searched your browser history?
Would the mp3 be dated when you received it or when it was created?

If you end up reposting this question you might get a better response if you include a bit more in the title, like Does anyone recognise this 1970s Scottish male folk/blues singer please.

If you can, type out some of the lyrics.
And mention why/if it is so important to you.

The name of the file is only "123".
I received this mp3 6 months ago, but there is no date of creation.

I don't know what it is. It sounds like a riddle, But when i hear this music, i feel strong. My soul is dancing. That's my artist, that's the song which i'd like to have on my funeral.

I don't know if i was drunk, if it is a joke, but guys (and ladies?) - I NEED YOUR HELP.
Because i live in central Poland my english isn't good and searching artists in google is too hard for me, folks.

This song (click here) is certainly one of the ones you've linked to. It's sung by Matt McGinn.

Listening to his voice, he could be person on your recording, and the arrangement sounds similar as well. Have a listen and see what you think.

It's a long shot, but if the mp3 tags were ever edited, there may be info in the file properties. Right-click the file name -> Properties -> Details tab.

The voice on your clips doesn't sound like Matt McGinn's, it's deeper and more sonorous - even though Bainbo has posted one of the songs being sung by Matt McGinn. (Who sadly died over 30 years ago). Sounds like someone trying to copy him maybe.
As Guest said on 26th May, try messaging the person who put up the videos.

I agree with Tattie Bogle tat the singer on the clips in post 1 is definitely NOT Matt McGinn, an old friend. Bainbo's clip IS of Matt. I do not know who the imitator is but probably some "exile" Scot living in America who makes a living imitating Scottish singers, rolling is "RS", probably wears a kilt. America and Australia are full of them. The Irish suffer the same fate.

This is the third or fourth thread you have started about the same thing. You may need help, but we have tried and we have come up with nothing. When we do we will let you know.
Please post to keep it active if you wish, but don't start multiple threads looking for the same artist. Number of threads won't increase your chance of getting a good answer. Thanks, Moderator

I'm not so sure the singer is Scottish. I mean he could be putting on an American accent in the third song. I wouldn't be surprised though if it is more of an American putting on a Scottish accent in the first two songs! The rolling r's just sound too pronounced and forced. Whether he is American or Scottish he seems to be trying to sound like Matt McGinn except for in the third song of course!

You've had several Scots including myself suggest that the singer doesn't really sound Scottish. Scotland is a small country and the folk community is quite well known to each other. Had he been a Scottish singer who was known in any way then I'm sure somebody (ie especially the likes of Jack) would know of him! I think North America is a better bet though even at that if he is someone who is only known in his home town etc then it may be a long shot. The guy might only have made several home made vids and not be a gigging musician.

Flincount that has been a month none of the Scottish contributors or anyone else for that matter have recognised the person. Unless someone who actually knows the person stumbles across this thread your question is unlikely to be answered in the way you wish.

Time to try other places. Keep a note of the thread title and every few months if you have not been lucky elsewhere check back by placing the threat title in the filter box and choosing your time scale.
