More than 24 hours after she was reported missing, Sinead O'Connor was safely located, according to police in a Chicago suburb.

"She is safe and is no longer listed as a missing/endangered person," the Wilmette Police Department said in an email.

Police officials did not immediately comment on the circumstances surrounding the mercurial Irish singer's disappearance.

Wilmette police had been "seeking to check the well-being" of O'Connor, Sgt. Michael Robinson said earlier Monday. "A caller has expressed concern for her well-being and no other information is available," Robinson said at the time.

O'Connor had last been seen around 6 a.m. Sunday when she reportedly left the Wilmette area to go on a bike ride, according to authorities. Wilmette Police Chief Brian King told the Chicago Tribune that the department was contacted around 1 p.m.

O'Connor has spoken publicly in the past about her mental health struggles, including suicide attempts in 1999 and 2012. Last year, O'Connor posted a message on her Facebook page that suggested that she was taking her life and came after several social media posts about personal troubles.

"I have taken an overdose," she wrote in the November message. "There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I'm at a hotel, somewhere in ireland, under another name. If I wasn't posting this, my kids and family wouldn't even find out."

O'Connor went on to write about problems she was having with her family.

"I'm invisible. I don't matter a shred to anyone. No one has come near me. I've died a million times already with the pain of it," she wrote.

Later that day, police in Ireland confirmed that they had found the singer "safe and sound" and said that she was receiving medical care.

The Wilmette Beacon reported that O'Connor "has been staying with friends in Wilmette for several weeks."

On Saturday, O'Connor said on her public Facebook page that she was "Heading Down South for several weeks" and suggested that she was planning to protest North Carolina's "bathroom bill."

On Sunday, the same day she disappeared in Illinois, a note appeared on O'Connor's Facebook page, apparently alluding to a familial legal issue.

Police, however, have not spoken about the social media post or said whether it had any connection to the artist's disappearance.

It's unclear what exactly the post was in reference to, but O'Connor's oldest son's name is Jake. Two days prior, she posted an open letter to her youngest son, Shane, writing: "I love you. My baby. I'm waiting for you and will wait as long as I have to."

And on May 7, on the eve of Mother's Day, O'Connor wrote about Shane, saying that he was in foster care and "in intense distress."

"My son is being punished for being my son," she wrote. "Is this love? Please would someone in my family love this boy enough to stop punishing him. As for whether it is right or not to write this? A mother will help her child by any means necessary."

The singer-songwriter found herself back in the headlines after Prince's death last month. O'Connor — whose megahit "Nothing Compares 2 U" was written by Prince — took to Facebook and accused Arsenio Hall of supplying drugs to the late singer.

Hall is suing O'Connor for libel.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why some moderator felt compelled to move this thread out of the music section, but I guess moving it won't cause the end of the world.

I came round to post on the Sinead O thread only to discover that it had been moved. These arbitrary decisions by so called mods are really starting to interfere with the free flow of conversation. Sinead is a very well known and respected musician, why is she not in the above the line section ?

The highly-regarded musician Mayomick cut his toe nails yesterday evening using a pair of scissore . After thus trimming his toe nails , Mayomick used a nail file to prevent the jagged edges of his cut nails from making a hole in his socks .

So why do we still have the thread about the NUS here. My observation has to do with the inconsistency of the decisions, they are arbitrary.
If you wish to formally announce the cutting of your toe nails and you have reached the level of fame that Sinead O'Connor has, it might well be worth reporting here if someone chooses to post it. Once having posted it, should it be arbitrarily removed ?
In any case, I had wished to make the comment that it is such a shame that such a gifted singer as Sinead O. Connor should find herself in this woeful state. I have always felt that she is a huge talent and has just blown it, which is too bad.

That is very peculiar. Steve did his yesterday as well, but Steve regards files or sandpaper to be far too harsh, so he uses a pumice bought in Lipari to sort his jagged edges. Wanna argue about it?

Since open abdominal surgery in 2006 and 2007 resulted in a period of inability to bend comfortably, and as I'm diabetic and like to keep my feet in good condition, I have my toenails cut by my podiatrist, at the same time she checks my feet and pulses. She digs out the ingrown parts, and uses a metal file to smooth off the sharp bits.

As it happens, I'm a singer and a musician, but I couldn't care less whether this important announcement is above or below the line. 😄

In one respect I understand this discussion being in the BS/non-music section. It reminds me of Courtney Love, becoming a widow under the most hideous circumstances, and remember when she took to social media? Of late Love is quieter, she must have wised up to the consequences of venting in public. Of course I wish for these two women to heal, recover, and prosper; it is sad that they must learn the hard way not to confuse getting-it-out-of-one's-system with shouting-it-from-the-housetops.

Thoughts:

By going on Facebook, O'Connor is talking to everyone except the people who could help her: a capable doctor, a good therapist, a faithful friend, a wise relative.

Going on a bike ride and disappearing is a heck of way to thank the people in Wilmette for their hospitality.

Keep in mind that not everything such a person posts may be true.
