Goats don't scape themselves. This means that many 'Apprentice' scenarios will play out during a Trump Presidency whenever an obvious failure occurs Donald will bellow "You're Fired", to deflect wrongdoing. 2 Government is about NO DEALS. The gears of Government are oiled with statutes to prevent individuals from making private deals to enrich themselves at taxpayers expense. Usually legalized bribery by lobbyists, tax codes and sweetheart jobs are used as a way around laws to prevent corruption. 3 Collusion Confusion If the Justice Dept., the FBI, a foreign power and the executive branch try to collude they will quickly become hungry lifeboat survivors and turn on each other in great confusion and scandal. 4 Cover up the corrupt The urge to cover up will be so great it will not be resisted. With so many like minded "friends" in the administration thy will forget the connective tissue of government is the lowly civil servant who will feel compelled to do the right thing. 5 Misdemeanors, misdeeds and treasonous crime. Again the high crimes will not be prosecuted but the usual campaign lies will not hold back the pressure of one tiny little cover up. 6 Rake in the Fake Fake news will so aggravate Main St. to Wall St. Commerce, that it will bite the advocates of conspiracy theorist proponents in the ass. And hardly any of them will succeed. And those who stay in their lands in dire poverty and want will no doubt continue to scrape some sort of existence. Those of us in a more fortunate position will continue to overeat, over-consume goods and pollute the planet yet more, disregarding the rest of the world. 'Twas ever thus... and 2017 will be no different. |

We will continue to pollute the planet while we produce more and more consumables......and weapons of war of course. While we refuse to recognise that the lifestyle many of us have become used to is not sustainable even in the very short term. The problems demand some very draconian answers which will not be welcomed by our "liberal" brethren......if indeed there are any answers available. Perhaps some great international disaster would knock us back a century, but that is unlikely. In my memory we inhabited a world where we worked to survive, we took responsibility for our families and the words right and wrong were not seen as terms of abuse. It is a cliché I suppose, but we have lost our sense of community, the extended family and replaced it by the dogma of self. For all its faults, Castro's Cuba was a reflection of what life could be if it had been allowed to flourish. |

For the last two years this has been recognized as a triumph of government. Specifically the NIH. The false loyalty to the man and not the nation will be made explicitly clear to be a mistake. As soon as Valentines day Putin will make a big move and Trump will support it in several ways. Russia will get higher oil prices, warm water ports and no sanctions. The US will get an extorted US President. There is already some push back against firing scientist civil servants who researched urgent climate change actions and other issues deemed anathema by conservatives. The push to not hire progressive professors and teachers has already begun. Historians know how dangerous this can become. |

Even if that happens, I predict that Pence will take us back a good 50 years. I consider Trump a hollow being without a real core but in my opinion Pence, domestically speaking, is no improvement over Trump. At all. As for our vaunted checks and balances, they may be at a historically ineffective level. If Trump refuses to divest himself of his profit-making activities, Congress may simply change the laws and regulations so that he can continue. And given the appalling mindsets that are currently in vogue throughout parts of our government, a great many of our 'leaders' may just throw up their hands. It appears that many individuals are so painfully aware of their vulnerabilities, so afraid of the punishments that a Trump government can wield, that they may just hunker down and wait. That's how it's been working in Congress anyway. What do I predict? I believe two things simultaneously: that a president Trump will either be impeached and the process will be begun swiftly or 2) that within 6 months Mr. Trump will leave, bellowing: I don't need this- this is the thanks I get- I'm out of here. There-in lies hope. |
