Much discussion on the radio and TV about whether Trump will 'even be aware' of the protest in London.

Has it made Fox News yet apart from online?

Trump balloon

I'm guessing yes.

Be interested what American people think

Trump is a whiney little brat.

He may order his SS to shoot your Trump baby down or punish you with more tariffs.

Fox News is a horse of a different color, but I think most U.S. news agencies will do their best to be matter-of-fact in their reporting. Photos of the "Trump baby" balloon have been widely published.
We're more than a little embarrassed by the guy. We wish Trump would go away. If we believed hard enough that he was the Wicked Witch of the West, could we pour water on him and make him shrivel up and wither away?

If he is the Wicked Witch of the West he should be happy on his visit to the UK, because he will be hosted by the White Witch of Narnia, who is bent on inflicting a 100 year winter on the UK.

Can the UK crowd fund a muck spreader to deliver a few hundred gallons of slurry at Chequers when trump arrives. I'm sure enough people would be happy to cough up 1p each.

Some enterprising manufacturer must be making personal helium balloons of the Trump Baby, surely?   A crowd where even 5% had their personal 'baby' would be quite a sight.

I rather like the idea of the Drag Protest Against Trump - came across it on FB but it is probably googleable. Their flyer has a picture of The Donald wearing huge purple eyeshadow.

Such demos would have been appropriate for the visits of Erdogan and Xi Jinping.
They mostly went without protest.

Of course, Keith. Perhaps it would have been appropriate.

But perhaps not enough people were aware/cared/whatever?

"They MOSTLY [my emphasis] went without protest" - but there were protests. I trust you went. I know people who did because they were bothered.

But there must be something about Trump that bothers people more - for right or for wrong. Perhaps his arrogance and high media profile asks for a response? Perhaps karma?

For right or wrong, he divides in a very straightforward and obvious way. And makes it very black and white. Asks the question with brutal honesty - whose side are you on? Whereas the other two are a little more subtle. They also divide and influence but without the big 'I am' thing.

Strength appeals to people. People like 'winners'. People like certainty. Suddenly everyone is English because the football is going well - like Andy Murray being a great englishman when he's winning Wimbledon.

And it's a fantastically clever publicity stunt that cost nothing.

People will try and copy it. But like many things, the first time an idea is used is the greatest however many times it gets copied.

As a total aside, my favourite thing today was Farage today in his LBC thing about 'englishness' and concepts of 'englishness' quoting Orwell. Who was an Indian if I remember. Like Ted Dexter and Cliff Richard.

He said he was in the presidential race for the little guy, to improve American business prospects in the world, blah blah blah. But he has no empathy, he wouldn't know a little guy if he tripped over one, and he has no empathy. His dismissive kingly behavior is the most repulsive feature of his demeanor.

His dismantling of global agreements should be a good reason for anyone anywhere else to protest his visit. His closeness to Putin should be reason to fear him, get him out of office ASAP.

Do your best to hurt his little feelings.

I would have thought it obvious: the US, since WWII, has, despite its flaws, represented to many the hope of democracy and a somewhat civilized, functional world order. There have always been autocrats in various nations that have been seen as threats to democracy and world order - but never before has there been an American president who has been widely seen as a threat to democracy and world order. Hence, the level of protest directed toward him - apart from his utter boorishness, which is a polite way of putting it.

As a second aside (can one hijack one's thread?) there is a wonderful quote from someone today...

"ukipforbritainwebsite --> Harold • 11 hours ago
I think you're wrong. Brexit, free speech, the abolition of hate laws are all issues UKIP is targeting. There's immense support for a truly classical liberal party."

Which I truly found ASTONISHING.

And is the phrase 'virtue signalling' now way past its sell by date? I have heard 'VS', 'champagne socialist' and 'my grandfather died in the first world war - and let me remind you fighting the germans' so many times in the last week. Almost though someone was orchestrating it.

Go and find my old blow up doll now and puncture repair kit

"They mostly went without protest."
Ot's nice to see that the Mudcat Mugwump's double standards are working on overdrive
Despite both China's and Turkey's dubious human rights records, the UK went ahead and sold them £127 million's worth of arms not too long after the Tienanmen Square protests and $1billon's worth to Erdogan
Britain his a big-time human rights abuser by proxy by acting as armourer to monsters

Trump is an insane fanny-grabbing misogynist who separates refugees om their children who are then locked in cages
He governs a country that has tortured and imprisoned 'suspects' and kept them manacled and locked in cages for decades without even the benefit of a trial
He is now steadily undermining U.S. democracy by hand-picking security and civil order institutions such as the police, the military and the judiciary
Above all, his insane Dr Strangelove approach to defence and security, which boils down to nothing more than 'my button is bigger than yor button'

Didn't quite finish
... makes him the most maniac on the planet
Despite all this, he will be welcomed to Britain
Perhaps he should, given Britain's record of arming killer states
